Dillards is having some great online sales, and if you try to ignore the fact that, without fail, the model is wearing ugly sandals with pants that are too short.  We like this charcoal Antonio Melani suit — we think it would go great with a dark purple or royal blue top.  The jacket (Antonio Melani “Zelia” Jacket) is marked down to $83.58 (sizes 4, 10, 12, 14 only), and the pants (Antonio Melani “Antonio” Pants) are now $54.18 (sizes 6 and 12 only).

It seems like a lot of online stores are clearing out their inventory of suits, meaning there are some good deals to be had, but finding a jacket and skirt in the same size can be a bit trying. (Saks, we’re looking at you.) We’re also a bit curious about all the miniskirtswe’re seeing with suits — who do they think is buying these things? Ok, rant over.  This suit is not on sale, but is a lovely basic gray — and we’re loving it with the red.  The jacket (Elie Tahari Exclusive for Nordstrom ‘Lorinda’ Jacket) is $298, and the pants (Elie Tahari Exclusive for Nordstrom ‘Theora’ Pants) are $198.

This week, we’re liking this checkered black suit from Kasper.  We like the simplicity of it, save for the interesting button detail on the pockets.  We’d probably visit a tailor to see if he or she could make the back of the jacket a bit more fitted — but otherwise, great, simple suit.  It was $240 but is now on sale for $99 at Smart Bargains, available in sizes 6-18.   Kasper Black Birdseye Skirt Suit

Eeee — great suit from Kay Unger New York, but we may just be distracted by that great belt.  We like that it looks to be of a substantial, nubbly silk, so hopefully wrinkling won’t be a problem, and we like the slightly feminine ruffles at the neckline.  It’s $480 at Neiman Marcus (Belted Silk Skirtsuit), available in sizes 2 through 18.

Great wool suit from Ann Taylor, which — for some reason — is available online only.  Particularly, we love the color, called “clover melange” — it’s a great basic to wear with white, black, or navy, but also purple or teal (as pictured, actually); we’d also try it with yellow. We also love a good wool with a bit of stretch.  The jacket (Wool Classic Jacket) is $230, the skirt (Wool Stretch Faux Sarong Skirt) is $110, and the pants (Signature Wool Cuffed Trousers) are $130; the jacket and pants are available in regular, petites, and tall sizes 00-18; the skirt is available in regular and petite sizes 0-16.

Reader E brought this dress and matching jacket to our attention, noting with excitement that “J Crew came out with some cute twists on normal suit pieces.” We agree — we love that the dress is only slightly embellished with some subtle black on black “petals” at the placket. We also love the fact that the pieces are made of four-season merino wool, and that there are multiple pieces (jackets, dresses, pants) in matching fabric. The dress (Super 120s papillion dress) is $195; the jacket (Super 120s Lizza jacket) is $230.
