I don’t know if you guys are obsessed with yoga pants or leggings with pockets like I am — all I want is to have my phone on my body and not stuffed in my sports bra. Is that too much to ask? You can find them at really high prices, and so I was amazed to see that Amazon has these very highly rated ones with pockets (1,000+ reviews!). They come in a bunch of colors in sizes S–XXL, and they’re $18.98–$20.98, eligible for Prime. Some sizes/colors have free returns, too. ODODOS Power Flex Yoga Leggings

stretchy ankle jeansSomething on your mind? Chat about it here.

I was browsing the denim section at Nordstrom recently and was intrigued to see these affordable ankle skimmer jeans from the same brand behind some of Nordstrom’s most-loved jeans, Wit & Wisdom’s Itty Bitty Bootcut jeans. The denim they use is known for being super soft, stretchy, and with great recovery — so if you prefer a skinnier style over the bootcut style, these may be for you. I also like the dark rinse — very classic and flattering. They’re $68, available in sizes 0-16, petites; the brand also comes in plus sizes with several similar options. Ab-solution Ankle Skimmer Jeans

Here’s a slightly more affordable option that’s also getting rave reviews.

There are two trends going on with this Vince Camuto top, and I like them both here. The first trend is the corset look — if you look up “corset” on Nordstrom or Bloomingdale’s or Amazon, etc., you will find a zillion things that are corset-inspired. Some of them are good, some of them are bad, and some are just sort of weird. I really like this blouse, though, because it looks cool and flattering but not overly boudoir. It also has a sort of baby crop where you can just see a hint of skin. (That’s why it’s a weekend pick — I would not advise showing even a little skin at work. On the other hand, know your office.) The top is $99 at Nordstrom, comes in XXS–XL sizes, and is machine washable. Note that Theory has a similar baby crop. Lace-Up Tie Front Blouse

A plus-size option is at Eloquii.

Update: Comments are fixed, sorry about that. Also, note that the Kindle Deal of the Day is lots of good stuff selected by The Skimm: Gone Girl, Eligible, The Secret History, and more.

the best winter boots for snowSomething on your mind? Chat about it here.

After my ACL tear and knee surgery a year or two ago, one of my main goals has become “not falling.” (Yes, I’m like a 80 year old, thankyouverymuch — two multi-week stints on crutches will do that to you!) In any event, I bought Sorels that first winter after my surgery, and am very glad I did because I’m so happy to pull them out whenever the weather is lousy. To be clear: my Winter Carnival boots (pictured) are HEAVY mo-fos, both in terms of weight and warmth, and not super ideal for a lot of walking in lighter temperatures — but when you’re looking at snow, slush and ice for days, these are the shoes you’re going to want. I just checked the weight on the product description at Zappos – 1 pound 5 ounces. The Caribou Slim is slightly lighter (1#2oz); the Caribou is even heavier (2#5oz!). I originally wanted the best-sellers, the higher Joan of Arctics (not quite knee high boots, but close) but worried I could only wear them with leggings, skinny jeans or tights — but in reality that’s all I wear my boots with so if you prefer the taller style, go for it. (Those are 2 lbs.)  I’ve pictured the black Winter Carnivals, but they come in a TON of color options: another bonus. (ACK and I just saw that there’s a royal blue version too! I don’t need multiples, I don’t need multiples…) You can find Winter Carnivals as low as $68 at Amazon, Zappos, and occasionally I hear tell of them at Costco as well (though I’m not sure which model you may find, so do note the weight issue); at full price they’re $150. Readers, do you LOVE your snow boots? Which ones do you have? Pictured: Winter Carnival Boots.

Yes, yes: I’ve posted about velvet skinny jeans before this year, but they’re starting to hit the sales racks in a major way. These “black cherry” Paige skinny jeans look awesome, and they’re down to $104 from $208, which means I’m getting a pair today. They’ve got great reviews, and are available in sizes 24-34. Oooh: Note that Nordstrom and Amazon both have other colors in velvet, as well as coated jeans and regular jeans. If you’re looking for plus sized velvet skinny jeans, check out NordstromTarget and Old Navy.

sequin skirt 2017Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Sequin pencil skirts are having a moment right now, and I think they’re a great option — particularly where you have to change quickly after work for a Friday party or whatnot.  This pretty silver one from Halogen (also in black) is $89 at Nordstrom. Sequin Pencil Skirt

If $89 is too rich for your blood, here are two more affordable versions getting good reviews — and here’s a lovely green plus-size sequin skirt.
