Nordstrom is having a big shoe clearance, so we swung by to see what, if anything, struck our fancy. We lurrve this interesting take on the classic slingback — the yellow accents really make the navy pop. We like that Bruno Magli was judicious with the use of yellow — it'll peek out a bit from beneath your toes, be visible on the strap and footbed at the back of the shoe — but not the heel itself. Lovely. These were $390, now $257 in sizes 36-40. Bruno Magli ‘Cartosio' Pump
(N.B.: The peep-toe pump is not appropriate for all offices; know your own environment well.)

Sadly, am I the only one who still thinks “O.J. Simpson” instead of “fine Itallian footwear” whenever I see a pair of Bruno Magli shoes? Maybe it’s because I was still in high school during the whole murder trial escapade, and thus was not old enough or fashion-conscious enough yet to be familiar with many of the nicer brands, but it’s still very hard for me to think of Bruno Magli in any other context. Just wondered if anyone else between 30 and 35 had this problem.
But the shoes are cute!
Not in your age range, but definitely agree on the association. Poor Bruno Magli to be stuck with that forever!
Same! But these are cute! Just out of my price range …
aaaaaahahahahaha – yea! I don’t have to be embarrassed that I had that EXACT same thought.
(raises hand) 28 years old, here, and I definitely have that association! Cute shoes, though.
Me too! So funny. I own a pair of Bruno Maglis — cutest flats with a bow. They got me through 2 pregnancies. Leather is soft like butta.
Does anyone else have problems with slingbacks? I can never get the “sling” part to stay on my heel – it always slides down and drives me crazy, and the shoe flops around wherever I’m walking.
YES! I have narrow heels, and have found very few slingbacks that will stay on. One trick that works for a single event is to put a little piece of velcro on the inside of the strap, and the other piece on the back of your heel – this only works if you’re wearing hose – and then stick the pieces together, thus securing the strap to your heel.
I find that sling backs *hurt* SO much! Anyone have a secret for wearing them?
I don’t wear slingbacks often, for the problems you mention (I have narrow feet), but these definitely help:

Maybe the ones with an elastic band in the back would work better for you.
I actually am not a fan of the brand — had a bad experience with a pair of Magli’s stretching out and flip-flopping off my foot within a few short months of purchasing them …. seems to happen with about 1/3 of the work shoes I buy??!
Don’t like the yellow.
Off-topic – can anyone suggest places to buy one short dress and one long dress to wear to weddings? None of my dresses that I bought to wear to weddings years ago will fit – I just had a baby 2 months ago and so my tummy and boobs will still be big by the time of the weddings (2 months from now). I also don’t want to spend too much – $200 max for the long dress. Any ideas? Thanks all!
Found a gorgeous teal floor-length gown at Ross for under $10. While it’s a treasure hunt at places like that, worth taking a look – especially if you think you’ll wear the dresses only once or twice, which might be the case in the circumstances you’ve described.
It’s prom season and I’ve seen lots of markdowns on formal dresses (not just prom-ish ones, but grownup ones too). Try Macy’s or Nordstrom, or if you have them in your area, Nordstrom Rack or Filene’s.
