black work bag with small grain leather

Readers turned me on to British brand DeMellier, and I've been drooling over one of their newer introductions: the Hudson work bag.

It looks super sleek — I'm picturing the black one, but there's something really sumptuous about the dark brown suede one also.

The bag is designed to be worn on the crook of an arm, over your shoulder, or handheld — and the front belted strap modifies the inside space of the bag. I also love the thoughtful details: two phone pockets, an interior zip pocket, a front slip pocket, and metal feet at the base.

The bag is big enough for A4 files and a 13″ laptop, and is $745 at DeMellier.

As of 2025, some of our latest favorite luxury work bags (large enough to hold papers and a laptop!) include Bottega Veneta, Mulberry, Saint Laurent, Kaai, and DeMellier. Of course, note that a lot of our readers who are in big jobs note that they love their (more affordable) Tumi bags.

Looking for work backpacks to splurge on in 2025? Montblanc, MCM, Songmont, and Senreve (also!) are great, and readers are always huge fans of all things Tumi. Some of our favorites…

    1. is that the VA nurses? apparently thousands were offered the same buyout package as other feds. even though there were massive nursing shortages reported for VA hospitals.

      1. Oh, have they decided to only to offer buyouts where there aren’t shortages? Like the air traffic controllers…..

  1. Does anyone know where I can buy a dainty silver cuff or hinged bangle bracelet to fit a small wrist (6″)? I see other women wearing bracelets that stay put and don’t slide up and down their wrists, but the only ones I can find for purchase are large in diameter and seem designed to slide around and jangle.

    1. Some jewelers offer bracelets in different sizes. Like for David Yurman bangles they have 4-5 sizes, with XS being a 5-5.5″ wrist.

    2. Mejuri. The (sterling silver) cuff I got there was small to start, and I was able to squeeze it even smaller to fit my very small wrist.

  2. i have been SO EXHAUSTED this week — do you find that PMS affects your sleep? should you deal with it differently than other sleep problems?

    1. Yes! My sleep is heavily impacted by my cycle. I try to eat more healthy fats, cut coffee out earlier in the day, and do some exercise to help with my PMS insomnia. Magnesium and calcium are the generally recommended supplements, but given the lack of regulation you can skip.

      1. Not everyone can just skip magnesium. There are reputable products even if regulation is lacking, same as with shampoo or skincare (and some countries are more regulated than others while offering the same products).

        1. what kind of magnesium? i’ve seen conflicting reports. does anyone have thoughts on evening primrose for peri? forgot about that one but i did take it for a while.

          1. I really just work with my doctor on this stuff, but the big thing is to avoid laxative forms like magnesium oxide, since for sleep and menstrual cramps, the goal is to actually absorb the magnesium, not to get a laxative effect.

    2. Yes I always sleep poorly for a couple days before my period begins, and it’s gotten worse in my late 30s and early 40s with the beginning of perimenopause.

      1. I never put this together before. Age 45. Surprised myself by basically sleeping through this last weekend although I’m not sick. Got my period Wednesday. This… makes sense
