"Dew Rose" color of lip balm, a great dupe for Dior addict lip glow balm

I noticed some people on the Weekend Open Thread were wondering about a Dior Addict Lip Glow Balm dupe, and I thought, oh, I should mention this lip balm I got in Koreatown. But then I couldn't find it, and then by the time I did, the weekend was over.

ANYHOO: I had some time to kill recently while meeting a friend for lunch so I spent far too long in a little K-beauty makeup store — so much swatching! This one caught my eye near the end of my visit, and it was a bit on the pricey side for K-beauty ($20), but I liked the formula so much I spent a bit of time figuring out which color I liked best.

(Honestly, all of the colors were great. Not Pomelo because I'm not an orange girl, but I was stuck between a few different ones.)

I ended up with Dew Drop, which I see is their most popular color, and, after someone asked about it on the Weekend Open Thread, it occurred to me that this is a great Dior Addict Lip Glow Balm dupe. The formulas are very similar: a thick, moisturizing balm that isn't sticky and lasts for a few hours. The color is very much MLBB, but buildable — for me one swipe of this one has more color payoff than the Dior Addict Lip Glow one, but only slightly.

Like I said, it's a bit on the pricey side compared to other K-beauty things (I got a lot of other fun lipglosses for around $10 each), but compared to the $40 price point for Dior, it's not so bad.

You can get the gloss for $20 at Amazon or Soko Glam.

  1. For lawyers — do any of you have access to a Bloomberg terminal at work? Directly, or do you have to go through a librarian or some other person who is authorized to use it?

    1. A terminal? As in, the archaic idea of a dedicated computer sitting in a room just for Bloomberg? No. We have a Bloomberg subscription (that I live and die by in my field). We have however many seats for the firm.

    2. I’m in finance and only a very small subset of my global firm have actual direct terminal access. I’d be very surprised to know a lawyer had access.

  2. I just saw an interesting article about how “rich people” have multiple streams of income, not just one – so what are yours? We have dividends I guess but those are all reinvested so they don’t feel like income (and not that much per year), but otherwise just my job and my husband’s.

    1. Oh this is fun! I am Not Rich and my income steams are My Full Time Job and Occasional 20s From My Dad Because I’m a Good Daughter.

      1. Lol “occasional 20s” awwww memories. I used to get so many of these back in the day. My dad would shove crumbled bills in my hand when he dropped me off at the airport during college breaks.

    2. I guess it depends on how you define rich, but most of the richer people I know don’t have multiple streams of income. My family’s only income is my husband’s and my W-2 jobs.

    3. Many of the wealthy people I know sit on a paid, corporate board or two in addition to their executive-level compensation. Me? Just my worker bee salary.

    4. Huh. Two full-time jobs and investments (which aren’t really touchable). I feel comfortable. How was the article defining “rich people”?

    5. We own commercial real estate and a vacation rental in a tourist area. Ordinary market investing too.

    6. I’m 58 and still working, husband retired.

Income streams: my business, husband’s pension, husband’s 401K, husband’s Social Security.

Income drains: two kids in college! Thank goodness for 529 accounts.

    7. My family is very wealthy and this strikes me as a bit of a poor-man’s rich, like LLC / rise and grind twitter or people in the Tony Robbins or FIRE space. My parents own a business they reinvest and have quite a few properties, and I have a high-salary job with investment portfolios. No side hustles though :)

    1. I don’t get the hype about his hotness! I’m happy for them but I think he’s much less attractive than most of her exes.

      1. He seems extremely likeable, tbh. I could personally do without the moustache but I kind of like the little I know about him.

        1. The El Travador has become a whole joke in Kansas City and environs. He knows it doesn’t work, but he is loving the reactions it gets him.

    2. I’ll keep my small man and I really don’t care about Taylor Swift but since the coverage seemed unavoidable I will say on the face of things he seems like a better match than anyone else I’ve seen her paired with.

      1. Yeah I think she needs someone who is a huge star in their own field but isn’t in any way in competition with her. I don’t think most male actors and musicians can handle her success. My guess (based on her apparent preferences for a guy’s looks) was that she’d end up with a tech wunderkind but a star athlete tracks too.

    3. My favorite thing about the new relationship is how it’s making the Trumpers melt down.

He does Budweiser ads! Taylor is encouraging voter registration! End of the world.

      1. Why is it upsetting Trumpers? They’re clearly both left-leaning or at least not MAGA. I don’t know why Trumpers would care about two liberals getting together.

    4. Interesting…I read several news sites daily and this is the first I’ve heard about her in a while, lol
Maybe she’ll have another breakup song on the charts next month…

      1. So the extremely successful mega-multi-million-dollar tour that she just went on, where tons of celebs were showing up at concerts, somehow escaped your notice? Either you’re not reading actual “news” sites (because the amount of money her tour made hit most financial news sites I read) or you’re selectively screening out what you don’t feel like you need to pay attention to. And I am saying this as someone who’s not even one of her fans.

    5. They visited my town today, including a winery a couple miles from me that is known for its musical events. Everyone is kind of giddy about it.

  3. Update from a previous post incase anyone cares.

I made a thread a few months (?) ago about the house next door being illegally rented on AirBnB and having difficulty getting the city to enforce the laws. I somewhat recently learned that the city’s property standards and parking team are different than the short term rental team. This discovery has resulted in recent renters getting ticketed for illegal parking, and the owner of the AirBnB getting various tickets for things like garbage. It doesn’t solve the issue but it’s progress.

    1. Sort of like Al Capone going down for tax charges. We don’t know him as Al Capone, tax evader, but it solves the problem a different way.

    2. We have one (possibly legal, but the renters are still uncivilized) on my street and the parking blocking the sidewalk may be just the thing that makes them shape up.

    3. There are people in my town who call parking enforcement the hot second that someone parks illegally on their street. They are especially assiduous about any kind of evening event, especially since people (like yours truly) may genuinely not understand the parking signs and think that parking is OK. It’s the kind of thing I would do to discourage an illegal AirBnB on my street if it was causing problems. (Our local illegal AirBnB doesn’t seem to drive parking issues on our block, just people blocking my driveway with their little rollie bags when I’m trying to go to work.)

      1. I have never and will never call parking enforcement on my actual neighbours, we have a great relationship! However for the illegal AirBnB renters I am happy to make the call!

      2. If you’re parked halfway across my driveway, I’m having you towed immediately. I don’t care whether you were confused.

        1. Uh, I’d do the same thing and have done that? It’s more of a “didn’t realize that after business hours it was no parking allowed without a permit”?

          1. I’m not talking about blocking someone in or parking in a red zone, I’m talking about not understanding a set of signs that really should say, “2 hour parking 8-6, no parking all other times unless you have a permit.”

  4. I had posted earlier about how to dress myself as a 33 BMI, 36 DDDD but “petite” 5′ 1″ short person. I had received some really good recommendations about good fitting bras and collarless jackets. Does anyone have specific collarless but still professional looking (stage speaking at events) jackets they love? Links very appreciated too. Of course, any other recommendations and tips welcome too, while I work hard to change my diet and lifestyle to lose all that extra weight (sloowwww).

    1. The JCrew Going Out Blazer is a classic for a reason. I take the larger of my two JCrew top sizes to accommodate shoulder and 34D bust..

    2. Talbots has several right now I have been looking at, many of which also come in petite. I’ve generally had good luck with their blazers, though occasionally have to get the sleeves shortened a bit.

    3. I am your height, also chesty, a bit smaller. I like the J. Crew Louisa Lady Jacket. I particularly liked last year’s 1) black ponte and 2) maritime tweed in navy with black trim. You might be able to find these on Poshmark. I have a size 6 in the ponte and an 8 in the tweed, if that helps. There are versions this season, also, but I have not tried and do not know if the cut is the same.
Also, my friend is coveting #2 above in size 00 or 0, if anyone has one they want to sell.

  5. In the last week or two, someone recommended a boot/shoe type thing and I can’t find the post. It was in the comments talking about snow/cold weather footwear, and someone posted a link to a weather-appropriate shoe that looked like a high-top sneaker, sort of sk8r style with a white sole, and I feel like it was from ugg but I can’t find it. A few commenters said they were buying it.

    Any ideas?

      1. Are the laces decorative or functional? I couldn’t tell from the UGG website page. Thanks!

    1. I also ordered these based on the recommendation here. I really like them, but I had to size down, FWIW.
To answer a question below, the laces are both functional and decorative. In addition to the laces, there is a zipper. You can take them on and off without the laces using the zipper or use the laces.

      1. I pretty much always need to size down in Ugg. Because my feet are a smaller women’s size, it sometimes means that I cannot get a particular style because it is not made in a small enough size.

    2. Ooo! Fun! What color did everyone get? The chestnut looks really golden/red on my screen

  6. All these posts recently about whether jeans, boots, etc. are current enough are fascinating. I think it’s so dependent on geography. I get a lot more outfit inspiration from the people around me than I do from various influencers and fashion websites. Of course, there is a trickle-down effect, but the choices have been edited by more fashion-savvy people by the time I see them in my local surroundings. The early 30-somethings are doing new jeans styles. Those of us who are 40 and beyond are not moving as quickly, and are more likely to be wearing skinnies and ankle boots. I still see more athleisure than any other style, out in the wild. Big, white sneakers are popular for all age groups. I think they’re ugly as sin and won’t be giving in, ha! Plenty of people are still wearing retro sneakers and Allbirds styles, too. Birks are everywhere, for all ages. I see lots of crop tops on teens and 20-somethings, and hardly any worn by women in their 30s and beyond unless they have a snatched body. (Sorry, but it’s true.) Conversely, only the teens and 20-somethings are doing the oversized looks. Swackets are still going strong.

Would love to hear what’s taking off in your locations (or not)!

    1. Depends on where you live for sure. I find in the middle of the country styles lag the coasts a little. I live on the West Coast & am not seeing skinny jeans much, definitely athleisure, and tons of Birkenstocks, especially the clog style.

    2. Oversized 90’s looks – only people who weren’t old enough to wear it the first time
      Crop tops – college/20s
      Athleisure – all ages
Variety of denim (cut, color) – all ages, skinnies still around a bit but boyfriend cut (cuffed or torn since it’s still mild weather) seems to have taken over
Street sneakers – all ages, though consistent with the oversized look, the *giant* white dad sneakers are more limited in age distribution
Birks – all ages and everywhere

      1. I saw my first pair of JNCOs in the wild recently, on a teen neighbor who definitely was very proud of himself for wearing such “different” pants. The late 30s/early-to-mid 40s moms at my kids’ NYC elementary school are also doing a LOT of 90s fashion, which for most of them they were definitely old enough to wear the first time. It tends to be more successful when it’s not overdone – like oversize plaid shirt with jeans and a tank top vs. a head to toe “look.”

in terms of shoes, a lot more ballet flats recently, but mostly square toe or square toe adjacent.

    3. Agreed, it’s so dependent on where you live. I’m a late 30s mom in a Midwest college town. I rarely see moms my age in “trendy” clothes. As someone else mentioned recently, rufflepuff is not really a thing here. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone in a nap dress. Mostly I see people in athleisure but when people want to go “dressier” it’s mostly generic boring clothes like dark jeans and solid color sweaters. Lots of Birks and sneakers. “Dated” looks like skinny jeans and riding boots are still in regular rotation. Crop tops definitely only for Gen Z regardless of body type. I know one very young mom who is 23 (young enough to be my biological child!) and the difference between how she dresses and how all the other moms dress is wild. I mostly shop at J Crew Factory and Old Navy.

      1. Yes, I think I’d do a double take if I saw anyone wearing ruffle puff. It is not a thing here.

        1. I’m in the Bay Area and haven’t seen it either, though I don’t spend a lot of time in the deep suburbs. It’s too cold and windy in the city to make it work. On the sunniest days, I see sundresses, but that has always been true.

    4. In my area there is a bit of everthing. The 90s styles tend to be worn by the those too young to have worn it the first time, the middle-aged women wear mostly athleisure, to the point that I’m the odd one out at the grocery store in my jeans. Lots of people wearing looks this board would call “dated”, lol.

    5. I’m resoling a pair of flats from around the turn of the century (my favourite way to describe early 2000s) and dusted off my flared leg yoga pants I’d hung onto.

    6. I was surprised to see skintight faux leather leggings deemed to be fashion on a recent outing with late-40s to early-50s women from across the SEUS.
I don’t see many skinny jeans anymore here in ATL. A variety of wider cuts are more common. Last year those came with moto and lug-soled boots or fashion (but not dad) sneakers and I expect the same except perhaps some more heels and heeled boots with flares/bootcuts this year. But when I say ATL, I mean the actual city. They may still be trending in the surrounding ‘burbs.

  7. I am trying to use the search box at the top of the webpage without success. Does it only search the titles of the posts or also in the content? I’m trying to find a reply I gave some time ago.
I have tried also with an internet search engine outside the webpage.
