If you've been reading a while, you know that for years I was kind of obsessed with purple pumps. We did entire roundups! Hunts! Just on purple heels! Except (as readers noted) they were always kind of wine-colored like this pretty heel, regardless of what I called them.
Then, much to my dismay, it became hard to find both wine-colored pumps and truly purple pumps. But right now there are a number of purplish heels out there… so color me excited.
This pump from Favorite Daughter looks great — I love the deep, winey “Bordeaux” color to the suede. The shoe is $275 at Nordstrom; you can also get it in red suede, black patent, and beige patent.

Is anyone wearing shoes with a nearly 4” heel these days? My feet have “voted with their feet” and I am out!
Dolly Parton would have. RIP Legend :-(
CNN has a nice write up on her.
True, true. She was OG.
Immediately thought: these shoes were made for her. RIP to the best of us.
Kate Middleton is. I’m 43 and have officially opted out of the high heel game.
I barely wear anything other than sneakers these days.
Me too. They are the most supportive, and most comfortable for me.
for some reason FB keeps showing me segments from SATC and there’s a scene where she gets stood up at the wedding and then RUNS after him in heels to beat him with her flowers. but i think SJP truly ran down the street in 4″ heels!! i was impressed.
I still wear 3″ block heels because my inner self is 5’9″ but my outer self is only 5’6″. I don’t wear stilettos anymore because they get destroyed on brick sidewalks, cobblestones, etc. and because they are less comfortable for long periods of standing than block heels.
Block heels or kitten heels only for me, too.
I am still wearing heels, but each year I get over 40 they get smaller and smaller. My tailor is enjoying this, I am sure.
Nope. Around 2.5″ is my max.
On a recent big city trip with my 7 year old Midwestern kid, she was amazed by the “tall shoes” she saw on someone on the street, and she brought it up several times afterwards. It may have actually been the first time she saw someone in person in tall high heels?
Love the magic of childhood! My little cousin was recently impressed by big city escalators.
lol that’s hilarious.
No!
i’m doing Strong Lifts but I’m not sure what to do with the days off. a lot of the aerobics that i like have squats and other strength training built in. any recommendations for aerobics with good music, easy to learn steps, and a good cardio for days between Strong Lifts?
Rebecca Kennedy low impact cardio in the peloton app – sometimes I bounce/jump a bit more to get my heart rate up, but it’s purely cardio no strength training and the moves are simple enough to learn but switched up enough so that it stays interesting!
what are your favorite recipes for a surplus of cherry tomatoes? going to have to start giving some to friends.
https://goop.com/recipes/tiny-tomato-pasta
matbucha
If you run out of friends, I froze a bunch, and I’ve been just tossing them defrosted into soups, salads, eggs, and pasta dishes. I feel they’re actually a little more versatile when frozen and defrosted (I wouldn’t toss a fresh cherry tomato into all of the same dishes). They’d probably work on pizza too.
As for using them up fresh, I like them best in fattoush or Greek salad. But recently I’ve been making buffalo chicken salad and putting a bunch of them in it. I have had mixed results using them in gazpacho, but if you have a recipe you like, it uses up a lot of tomatoes at once.
Panzanella.
You can cook them in a low oven in a little bit of oil (250 degrees ish) for a long time to get something between a roasted tomato and a sundried tomato, and they’re really good – can freeze them after as well. Really great concentrated tomato flavor you can use from the freezer when tomatoes are out of season.

+ 1 million. Good cherry tomatoes oven concentrated this way are like candy. Smitten kitchen has a formal recipe if you want a more thorough writeup.
I make this tomato confit and top everything with it. https://www.feastingathome.com/tomato-confit/
The Barefoot Contessa’s pasta with sun-dried tomatoes (it has cherry tomatoes too).
Cut the tomatoes in half. Toss in a large bowl with garlic, good olive oil, lots of fresh basil cut or torn if big leaves, and some salt and pepper. Let sit for half an hour or up to two hours. Cook pasta – I like bow tie pasta for this. Toss hot drained pasta in the bowl with the tomato mixture and serve. This is an unexpectedly rich dish, so much so that even my very carnivorous husband used to count down to summer tomato season so that this could go into rotation for suppers.
1. You looking for new friends? I’ll send you my address :)
2. I’ve been making a tabbouleh-adjacent salad with quinoa, lots of parsley, cherry tomatoes, feta, lemon juice and olive oil. It’s been a very easy, packable lunch this summer.
I don’t have a particular recipe, but I’ll make tomato sauce with them when I have an overabundance. You just can’t can it because of the skins, but you can freeze it if you have more than you need. I usually just google cherry tomato sauce and pick whichever has the highest rating.
Ali Slagle’s gnocchi with tomatoes and mozzarella!
Has anyone here had a breast reduction? I am mostly interested in hearing whether your insurance covered it, and if so, what cup size you are and what sort of medical history you had to support the coverage.
I am a US L so I don’t *think* it’s going to be hard to get it covered, but my medical record doesn’t reflect chronic back pain (because the cause of it is obviously being a US L and why am I going to make a doctor tell me that?). Now I’m wondering if I need to get that papered now in order to get it covered in a couple years.
Yes, you need symptoms in your record for any chance at getting covered. Also you should already be in PT if you have chronic back pain. Either it will help, and you’ll be all set, or it will demonstrate that PT doesn’t help.
+1
I had it covered as a size H. With the caveat that this was years ago and I was 18, so my memory is slightly spotty, I described my back and chest pain to the surgeon at my consultation but probably not to any other doctors at the time for the same reason you said – the cause was obvious and what was any other doctor going to do about it and it’s not like I was seeing a plethora of doctors at that age anyway. I used a surgeon at a major academic medical center, and his office was clearly experienced in how to properly prepare a case for my insurance company.
I just found out my health insurance deductible will triple, co-pays double, prescriptions double, premium double and out of pocket max is doubling for 2027. How’s that for winning?
Wow! Did you just go up an age band? Having the premium *triple* with all those other out-of-pocket costs is really odd to me (self-employed). I had to go down a “metal” this year because my premium was going up $150 a month, from already really high to just can’t this year.
I wondered the same. I think it could be the company is shifting costs to employees and covering less of the insurance costs. My household is on six figures of meds per month that we didn’t used to be, and I know some other people at the same company have talked about new medical expenses. Meds cost a lot more than they used to! Private insurance is all about risk pools, so if a pool starts to look “higher risk,” then they raise deductibles and copays accordingly. The really great coverage is offered to the people they think are lowest risk (healthiest).
Nope, it’s a state government. Only plan available for state employees.
Well, if your premium is greater than $1,600 per month for one person, then I’ll be impressed. That’s what I’m paying. Did you beat me?
I have a feeling you had pretty low cost insurance. You were lucky.
These are rough times.
Idk if you’re still checking this, but I work for a large insurance brokerage– renewal rates for all health insurance are totally out of control last year and this year. Your employer is passing some of the cost to you, unfortunately.
It’s a state government health plan (MT). The employer share has been fairly neglected since around 2017 and much of that is being pushed onto us. I hope other state employees in red states keep an eye because they’re probably next if it doesnt get shot down somehow here.
