Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

How lovely is this turtleneck from Nili Lotan? It’s not the thriftiest option, but when you consider the fashion math with something as timeless as this piece, it starts to make a little more sense. When I can see myself wearing something for at least two seasons for the next decade, the price tag feels a bit more palatable!

I would wear this with trousers, skirts, denim, and perhaps even layered under a sheath dress.

The sweater is $590 at NET-A-PORTER and comes in sizes XS-XL.

    1. I want to see it so badly! I can’t find tickets for Thursday. Btw, does iPic not let you book on Thurs – Sat? For some reason it isn’t populating those times.

    2. We took a random day off last week to go hiking in the beautiful fall weather and then stopped at Alamo Drafthouse on the way back for a late lunch and a movie. I definitely recommend weekdays to take advantage of both relatively empty movie theaters and state parks. Also indie movie theaters- if we hadn’t gone then, we would have gone to our local indie theater that started showing it this weekend and rarely comes close to selling out, especially at off peak times like earlier in the day on weekends or weeknights.

  1. Question for the hive – I have a few MM LaFleur sheath dresses from before the pandemic (specifically the Aditi, Emily, and Etsuko). I’m in my mid-40s and work in finance in NY. Is there any way that I can make these seem more current or should I just give up and move on. Thanks!

  2. I was just reading the weekend thread and I have to ask why on earth women would ever want single shooter bathrooms to be uni sex??? Every time I use one of those, the toilet seat is left up and there is pee everywhere. Every. dang. time. I truly truly hate going to restaurants that do this as some sort of public statement on their views when I’ve literally never seen anyone tr*ns at these restaurants despite going frequently so it really just inconveniences all of the women.

    1. This was a thing in Europe since forever, but I think there is that often there is only one single-stall bathroom because things are too old to modify otherwise. BUT HERE, I was grateful for a ladies’ room when I had wee children because they were just so much cleaner, especially the floors (and what spatters on floors, often isn’t just on floors). And there are never enough hooks and I hate wishing I had a third hand to hold thing because I don’t want to put my stuff on the floor in there.

    2. I don’t understand it either. In addition, the risk of voyeurism (via hidden camera) increases whenever men have regular and permitted access to a bathroom women use. No one will ever question why a man is in there if he’s allowed to be.

    3. I’ve always hated them being separate because then you have to wait when one is available and perfectly usable. I hate waiting in line to pee, so I’m all in favor of the more efficient use of space.

      1. I’m OK with that at a drinking-oriented bar. That’s a wild-west sort of atmosphere. But anywhere I’d take my mom, I don’t want her to have to deal with pee on the floor (and the ton of people who you hear flush and just walk out and you know it’s too fast for any hand-washing; the common line destroys the mystery). I don’t want to deal with it either in a nice place. This is also why I will never be on Team Jumpsuit.

    4. Honestly, I don’t really care. Plenty of women are bad at hovering which is worse than a toilet seat being left up. And, I say this as someone that will use the men’s designated single bathroom when there is a line. It just is not that big of deal.

      1. I also have no problem using a men’s rest room if there is a line disparity. I think they should all be first come first serve.

      2. +1 to all this. I can’t get too worked up about this either way. I’ve been in plenty of clean unisex bathrooms and plenty of gross women’s only bathrooms. I’m all for whatever results in the shortest wait time when I have to pee

    5. So my experience is that both sexes are disgusting? Like some women will literally squat over the seat, spray everywhere and not clean it up.

  3. I was just reading the weekend thread and I have to ask why on earth women would ever want single shooter bathrooms to be uni s*x??? Every time I use one of those, the toilet seat is left up and there is pee everywhere. Every. dang. time. 4. Sounds like Airbnb hosts are upset about the new guidelines that they can’t ask for guests to clean (wash sheets, wash dishes, etc.) and also charge cleaning fees. Sorry guys, long overdue. It was always such a scam that they got away with that. I’m not missing my flight to do your chores and obligations for you.

    1. I haven’t paid close attention but I only want an AirBNB with a hotel like experience: my only jobs should be to pay and not trash the place. I don’t want to feel like I work there. Chores are just for being at home.

    2. I’m with you. This was one of the many reasons I’ve always avoided air b&bs. The fees on fees and chore lists felt like a total scam

    3. I feel like everyone is always so polarized on thèse conversations. If I’m renting a home I don’t leave a pile of dirty dishes and I’m ok with taking the trash out if it’s reasonably convenient. I’m not stripping the bed and I’m certainly not starting a load of laundry. Especially not when I’m paying a cleaning fee. But I use Airbnb less and less anyway – a lot of hosts were renting dumpy homes for luxury rates and once you add on the fees, a hotel is often better value and way better service.

      1. This is where I am. I will use for something where that is the market, like for vacation rentals like beach or lake houses in my state (where hotels don’t really exist in those locations; it’s not Miami). But not in a city.

  5. Any transactional lawyers here? I kind of love this, but I also had no idea that this existed (outside of wills or real estate closings) when I was applying to law school or in it.

    1. I did 7 years of M&A in biglaw. It was fun but exhausting. Now I’m in house doing contracts. What do you want to know?

  6. For those in the DC metro area – do you have recommendations of where to shop when you just want to try on a whole bunch of blazers? Big bonus points if they have petite sizes for a narrow-shouldered person? I have an event coming up and really need a new blazer and I’m not sure where to go. Thanks!
