    1. Catching up on everything I was supposed to do in the last 2 weeks (which takes longer because I’m struggling with the harsh reality of wearing real pants, as above)?

  1. Hi everyone!

I’m a 1L in law school – law firm receptions are coming up in January, and I have no idea what to wear to them! Interview attire if they’re held at the firm? Casual if they’re held at a student bar? Cocktail at a nicer reception area?

Also wondering if I can get away with slightly off-classic suits for interviews. I have a Ralph Lauren tux-style suit, a few Ted Baker dress and cropped jacket combos (like this one https://www.tedbaker.com/us/Womens/Clothing/Workwear/Work-Jackets/NAIMEY-Fitted-peplum-jacket-Black/p/156811-BLACK). Do these work? What about double breasted? Gold buttons? I don’t own any colors other than black, do I need to diversity? I do have a classic Reiss skirt suit…but I feel like I just like a bit frumpy in it.

    Thank you so much!

    1. Wear a real suit for the interviews. As conservative as you can be. Frump is fine. A tux or “fashion” suit is not.

The Ted Baker dress + jacket look fine for a law firm reception, wherever it’s held.
