Oooh: I've been shopping the Nordstrom Fall Clearance Sale all day, picking the best workwear for you guys — and there are some great deals in there. The selection is great among the usual suspects like Classiques Entier, Halogen, French Connection, Vince Camuto, Adrianna Papell (try this dress, this dress, this dress, or this dress). On the higher end, check out the sale selection from Ted Baker London, Vince, Equipment, and Theory (especially this lucky size L dress).
On the weekend side of things, there's a great selection of denim like J Brand, AG, and Paige, workout duds like Zella and big savings on underpinnings like Natori, Chantelle, and Hanky Panky.
Some particular workwear favorites from the Nordstrom Fall Clearance sale, below…
Wow: big sales on Halogen suits that I didn't see yesterday (whether because I missed them or they weren't there, I cannot say!):
- black stripe suiting – lots of sizes left in blazer, skirt, and pants, priced $41-$62
- peplum top and skirt, $41 each
- bow detail tee, $57 (was $95)
- royal blue dress, $76 (was $130 – petites also)
Above:
- navy dress, $76 (was $128) (highly rated but yes, it does look awfully short on the model)
- birds' eye suiting – only a few lucky sizes left (10+) in the pants, but the blazer has lots of sizes left — $101-$169
- Porcelain Rose pencil skirt, $117 (was $195)
- black keyhole dress, $137 (was $229)
Above:
- silk georgette blouse, $153 (was $255)
- black notch neck dress, $327 (was $545)
- gray boy blazer, $327 (was $545)
- dot print silk dress, $537 (was $895)
Ladies, have you gotten anything you love from Nordstrom lately? Are you particularly hopeful for anything you've already bought today in the Nordstrom clearance sale?

I made myself a list of specific clothing items that I need and have given myself permission to buy. Sadly, none of those items are in the sale. I found the plus size jeans most lacking. They were all crop or skinny. I need a new basic pair that is either straight leg or bootcut.
The coats on the other hand look awesome. I found several that I really like but a new coat is something I absolutely don’t need. The London Fog navy trench with polka dots is so cute though.

Not sure if you’d agree about the quality, but I’ve been buying the (plus size) Liz Claiborne straight, bootcut and “city slim” jeans from JC Penney the past few years. On sale, they’re between $20-$30 (normally like $50). They’ve held up for me pretty well, and the skinny jeans are actually substantial enough to smooth over bumps instead of cling.

Thanks for the rec! I’ve been buying Old Navy but I can’t find exactly what I used to get and the closest I could find was out of stock in my size. I’ll look into those!

Last month I had excellent luck at finding work appropriate plus size bootcut jeans at Nordstrom Rack. I would 100% give them a shot.

Believe it or not, I’ve found great plus size jeans at Dress Barn. I have their trouser fit (slight boot cut) and straight fit jeans. IMO, they have just the right amount of stretch. I feel comfortable wearing both styles for casual Fridays at my conservative office. I like the Dress Barn jeans at least as much as NYDJ, and for ~$35 / pair.

Thanks Joie and Anon!

Anyone know when the buy 2 get 1 free mascara deal starts at Nordstrom?

I just bought a bunch of items including the black stripe suiting as well as the peplum top! Excellent deals. Think I spent $300 – $350 all in and got 4 blouses, a skirt, the peplum top and the black suit (all 3 pieces)

Does anyone know where the good looking guys will hang out now that the World Series is over? I am in BrooklynNY

My vote is always NHL > college football > college hoops > NFL > NBA in the winter.

I don’t get the point of the sleeveless peplum top.
You can’t wear a jacket or cardigan over it because of the high-low effect. It is fitted, so wearing a blouse or a thin sweater underneath is also iffy.
Wear on its own outside of office? The tweed fabric will be out of season in warm weather…
Can someone explain?

Not everyone needs or wants to wear a jacket or cardigan over their clothes. Perhaps it isn’t a great choice for a suits every day office that requires one, but they look very nice in a somewhat more casual work environment. Many of us don’t want to wear sleeves.

Maybe . . . somebody could wear it and go sleeveless! *GASP*

This s!te is so weirdly anti-sleeveless. It won’t alarm the church elders if you don’t wear sleeves at work.

LOL.
there are definitely some rules around here that are a bit unnecessary I think. I work in a law firm and when my office is really warm (usually in the summer), I wear a sleeveless dress or top. And always feel like a rebel doing so.

Many of us work in offices where sleeveless isn’t appropriate… Or are at least not the norm.
I have to admit that while I prefer sleeveless, although that may mostly be due to the fact they fit my broad shoulders better, I’ve started to feel slightly more ‘aware’ about wearing them.
It may be because I work in a mostly male environment, and it feels weird to be sleeveless while the guys have on sport coats. It may also be because the rooms are cold. It may be because I have lost the time I had in my arms while recovering from a shoulder injury. It may be because sleeveless forces me to dry clean sweaters and jackets more often.
For what it’s worth, I feel more comfortable in a sleeveless dress in the office than a sleeveless top as part of separates.

I’m in the market for a new suit for the first time in several years (have been in a very casual office environment), and am having problems finding a suit that fits well in the shoulders (I have broad shoulders). I’ve tried sizing up 1-2 sizes, and the shoulder still seems to be slightly narrow. Any suggestions?

I have broad shoulders too and I do well with the Halogen suiting. Great price point and they have worn well for me too. Check ’em out!

Elie Tahari, Boss, Akris, and Classiques Entier are all good options.

I’m boycotting Nordstrom until they stop carrying the Ivanka Trump brand. Check the #GrabYourWallet hashtag on twitter for more info.
