Interview outfit advice? I’ve got a case interview with Capital One via on-campus recruiting, and from networking events etc, I know that they’re business casual. Do I wear my normal interview outfit of a suit, or do I go more casual (either true biz cas or a blazer+sheath dress)? TIA!
Anonymous
Normal interview outfit of a suit, 100%.
Anon
SUIT! Interview attire is always more formal than normal workday attire. Many law/finance/consulting firms are business casual but would be horrified at anyone interviewing in less than a suit.
Anon
Absolutely go business formal. It’s a bank – just because they are business casual (which is really just for ease of outfits for everyday staff) does not mean you can go business casual for an interview. You should be in an actual suit. The most varied I’d say you can get is a complementing coordinates if you don’t have a full suit that should still read business formal (think black dress and dark gray blazer). Stick to traditional interviewing color palette – black, gray and dark blue/navy with light colored shirt, comfortable and practical shoes (no red bottoms or extra high heels).

For those of you who have pretty much finished menopause’s transition: do the symptoms ever go away? Will the weight that I gained during perimenopause come off when things settle down? Will the insomnia go away? Breast pain? It’s just so hard sometimes. I have quite a few more symptoms, but the insomnia is really hard to deal with. It’s been six years, and I’m just so tired of it.

Are you seeing a doctor? What does he/she say? If you haven’t gotten your hormones checked lately, I highly recommend. I gained quite a bit of weight during perimenopause, but once I got my hormones in a good place the weight cameo off.
Anon
I’m not concerned about hormones or getting them in a good place. I’ve had one period in the last five months, so I know the end is nigh. What I care most about is all these symptoms that I’ve had to deal with for so long. Every article I read talks about the symptoms of perimenopause but there’s virtually nothing as to their longevity. Will they all last the rest of my life –that sort of thing.
Taking the pill makes me very depressed/moody/unable to function well. If I take an anti-depressant to counteract those side effects, I have lactose intolerance as a side effect of the anti-depressant. I refuse to go through that again on top of everything else.
Anonymous
Ok. But the symptoms are caused by the hormones. If you refuse to even consider speaking to a doctor then no one can help you. Suit yourself.
Anon
Yep. OP, to get some relief here you have to be willing to participate in creating your own solutions. Saying you can’t take the symptoms but also that “not concerned about hormones or getting them in a good place” is nonsensical. Your hormones are causing the symptoms. If they’re not in a “good place,” you will not be either. If you feel that Western medicine has failed you, see a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, a naturopath, or an acupuncturist – many of my menopausal friends have and found relief. One of my friends found that drinking three soy lattes a week made a huge difference for her, as suggested by her naturopath. What definitely will not help you is complaining without taking some kind of concrete action to help yourself. It sounds like toughing it out is not working for you. How much longer are you willing to be miserable?

EXACTLY!!!

So by your reckoning when the hormones stop, so do the symptoms.

Sounds like you haven’t had sufficient medical care. It is common to have benefit from an anti-depressant short term during perimenoupause. Sounds like you need to try a different anti-depressant.
And no – perimenopause symptoms do not last forever. They can last many years though and vary from woman to woman. And they can totally suck.
My mother had horrible symptoms and she never complained about anything to her doctor. Including some terrible bizarre gum disease that flared with menopause. On my urging, she told her doctor and she finally started on low dose hormone replacement with her GYN and everything went away. All of her gum disease cured in no time. No more surgeries. Sometimes it is the right choice and is a risk/benefit balance for every woman.
You need to see your doctor and talk about your options. They are all very treatable and it doesn’t have to be with hormone replacement. And your irritability is going to get in your way of getting appropriate treatment so we are here kicking you in the butt to say GO TO YOUR DOCTOR. And if your doctor sucks (very likely…) or is dismissive (very likely….) look for an OB/GYN or woman’s health internist with a particular listed interest in menopause/peri-menopause and GO.

I am 65, and I feel great–no hot flashes, no breast pain, weight is down but I worked at it. Sleep is better, but I am now retired, so less stress. It will get better. All the usuals: exercise, good diet, lower stress, and good sleep hygiene–matter a lot, at least to me, but I feel great now.
go for it
Here is my take 16 years out:
Sleep first~10 mg time release melatonin has been a game changer, non habit forming, zero side effects
Weight~carb heavy items are no longer my friends, now it’s greens.
lifting weights / HIIT/ and Pilates have helped maintain firmness. I have kept the last 10 #s and am ok
with it. I am strong as all out. Hah!
Hot flashes and breast pain~ never had either, but would have tried all the homeopathic remedies
Anon
Tons of exercise and healthy diet address all of this – lift weights and HIIT
Anon
You need to eat better and get some exercise. And I’m not talking about the keto diet or crossfitting.
Anon
Eliminating alcohol reduced night sweats and poor sleep for me. It still happens once in a while, but not often.
I struggle with consistency in exercise, but have to do it in order to not gain weight. If you’re able bodied, do everything you can to move. Take the stairs, do your own yardwork, park in the boonies, run errands on your bike, etc, etc. All that movement adds up.
Like you, I’ve had bad, bad experiences from attempting to manipulate my hormones, so am trying to not go there.

I wish I had the day off. It has very much been A Monday and it’s only 12:30.

I don’t know anyone who isn’t working today! I feel like this is a holiday the majority of people don’t have off, except in New England where it coincides with February Vacation for public schools.

I am here with you. What a slog of a day. Mercury retrograde started yesterday also…. not to mention that last week, some cruel person stole my custom-made, 150 lb, 2′ tall concrete elephant statue off my front stoop. The pair was a house warming gift from my sister and someone had the audacity to steal one of them in the middle of the day. I’m so heartbroken.
January
That’s terrible! Do you have a video doorbell? Do any of your neighbors?
Anony
I have one now! I took the next day off from work and set one up. And unfortunately, very few neighbors have cameras and the ones that do, checked and didn’t see anything/couldn’t see my house/noticed nothing unusual. My state and definitely town is pretty safe; most people don’t even lock their doors.
My post has been shared over 800x, my local police department posted about it, we put up flyers, asked neighbors…. and still have nothing to go on, like not even one tip with a reward being offered. I’m beginning to think it was abducted by aliens. It’s so crazy and abnormal for my town that a reporter from the local paper reached out to interview me for a story that she wants to write, pending approval from the editor.

That sucks :-(
People are so strange – we once had two large pots of mums stolen off our front stoop – they weren’t expensive pots (just terra cotta) but they were ginormous and weighed a ton. I can’t imagine why someone would have taken them (or how, to be honest).
Anony
That is so bizarre – I can imagine how heavy those were.

When our house was burglarized a few years ago, they stole some large unopened packages that were just inside our door (in addition to all our electronics). I imagine the thieves were incredibly disappointed when they opened them to find sacks of grain my wife was planning to use in homebrewing.
Anony
Ugh, I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine what it feels like to have strangers inside your house going through your stuff. Even knowing that someone was on my stoop makes me feel paranoid and violated. It must have been targeted because the thief left a giant package that was just inside my front door. It contained about $100 worth of V-day presents. I wish they had taken that instead.
Anon
Did you have a crazy windy day by any chance? I know they are very heavy but we had a huge deck grill blow off our deck, down a hill and behind a shed. We originally thought it was stolen.
Anonymous
Video cameras are a great way to watch your stuff get stolen.
Vicky Austin
That’s just the rottenest. I’m sorry.
Gail the Goldfish
How do you even steal a 150 lb statue? People are the worst. Hopefully it was bored teenagers and it gets returned.
NOLA
I was out at parades all day yesterday, getting to church in the rain at 9:15 am and staying out the whole afternoon in colder than expected weather. I am *dead* today, even thought I slept really well last night. I managed to leave my ID case, with my debit card in it, and all of my cash, in my parade backpack, and left my work keys on my dresser. Couldn’t find my sunglasses this morning (had been taken out of the backpack but not put away) and couldn’t dress myself. I need Mardi Gras break to come sooner!
