The big Sephora Collection sale is on right now — 30% off their already affordable prices. I've had great success with almost everything I've bought recently from Sephora Collection, so I recommend.
Some of my latest favorites:
- Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick (above, $15 full price) — there are a zillion colors, and they're really comfortable to wear for a long-lasting lipstick.
- #LipStories lipstick — $10, tons of colors; they have pretty great staying power as well for a simple lipstick. I think the two that I have were both from the clearance section and aren't around — the color name for one of them is astrology-related (Sagittarius, I believe) and it's almost a 100% dupe for MAC's Odyssey.
- Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow — Admittedly I only have a super black eyeshadow (Black Lace), but it's really great — the color is intense and a little goes a long way. (I like to put eyeshadow on top of liner, both to smudge it a bit and because I feel like they both stay better.)
- Sephora liner — no complaints
- The Sephora Collection brushes seem really good — I wouldn't call myself an expert by any means; I try to pick up a new brush every sale to expand my collection.
For my $.02 I have not had good luck with their mascaras or mascara-related products, but I'm fussy with mascara.
You can take 30% off all Sephora Collection products from 4/14 to 4/24.
Which are your favorites from Sephora Collection, readers?

Framing
What are your experiences with Framebridge? I have some randomly shaped family mementos I’d like to frame (think tickets, postcards) and was thinking about going to framebridge but the steep prices are making me wonder if it’s any better than a neighborhood frame shop. I do NOT have an eye for this so will really need guidance on colors and matting and style.
Cat
if you think framebridge is expensive, wait til you get to the frame shop…
I’ve used them and been pleased with the quality for the price.
Anon
I’ve had great experiences with them and the prices are way less than my neighborhood frame shop (which I also use, but their selection is more basic/traditional).
Seventh Sister
I had some oddly-shaped pieces (panoramic pictures from college) and it was easy and not too expensive. Much less than the local (franchised) frame store.
Anon
I’ve used Frame It Easy to get frames for weird shapes. It was cheaper than Framebridge.
Anon
I’ve had good experiences with Frame It Easy, too, but they don’t have a very big selection. If you do find what you want there, it’s great.
Anonymous
I like them for framing but not for printing. So, fine for concert tix or photos you had printed through your photographer, but would not recommend sending them digital files to print and frame.
Heads up that you can’t easily remove the frames art and swap it out, either. The back is completely sealed. I haven’t had the heart to cut it open to see if I can swap that way, but it’s certainly not as easy as with frames from Target etc.

My sister got mad at Aaron Brothers once so she called them Aaron Brothers Fart Mart, and that has been stuck in my head ever since.

Chapter 13 here…I GOT APPROVED FOR A NEW APARTMENT!!! Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, and good vibes…fourth time’s a charm! This new place is still in a great building and will save me a whopping $950/month in rent. I’m so excited. I just need to provide a full month’s security deposit as opposed to the smaller amount they usually require. I’m also moving back to my home city (not far, same geographical area) to be closer to family. They don’t know about my bankruptcy, but they do know I am on a financial journey and saving money, and I could use their support. Some of my family members are also my closest friends, so it will be nice to be around them. I still need a few job details to fall into place, so I’d appreciate your good vibes there. But I’m so happy!!! (and relieved)

That’s awesome!! Congrats!

I’m moving into a new apartment next month with large outdoor space. I want to make it nice and I’m considering an outdoor rug, but I’ve never owned one before. Anyone have recommendations or thoughts on whether they can be left outdoors all year without getting gross? We would put it under our outdoor table with a very heavy base and don’t want to have to bring it in every time it rains.
anon
I don’t love outdoor rugs, I find they’re hard to maintain. Also, they stay moist much longer than other surfaces so if you’re barefoot outdoors it’s annoying.
Cat
+1, outdoor rugs stay soggy forevvvvvvver.
Anon
Ugh this is what I thought! Any other suggestions on how to make it nice? I already plan to buy lots of flower and herb pots and we have lights, tables, chairs, etc.
Anon
I don’t think you need anything on the floor to make it nice. 99% of the patios, decks, balconies, etc. I am on don’t have any floor covering and still look perfectly nice!
What type of space is this (patio, deck, yard?) and what is the flooring (wood? concrete, metal?).
I think flowers, furniture, and lights are all you need to make it nice!
Anon
It’s a very large wooden balcony, not high at all! We are on the first floor with a great view of NYC. I’ve always loved the look of an outdoor rug but the only people I know who have one also have a permanent covering over it that probably keeps it dry. They seem nice but sounds like they might be a waste of money.
Anonymous
I would not lay an outdoor run on a wood deck. They stay soggy and will eventually rot the wood. You might not even realize it is happening until you have a safety hazard (though first floor is better than higher).
Anon
Agree. Don’t get a rug. You don’t want to get a bill for replacing the wooden deck.
Anon
Get a nice looking set of non-breakable cups. I have a pretty set of drinking “glasses” that match my flower pots and it’s a nice touch.
Anon
This! Recommend Zungleboo for the plates and bowls

I always like the look and feel of these bamboo thingys, but I’ve only ever seen them in relatively small sizes. I had one as a bathmat for years and it held up well. I can’t vouch for this particular product, but this is what I’m talking about:

We keep our rug rolled up until we have a need for the surface (yoga)/have company over – it’s not huge, which helps.

Anon
I used to have one on my deck and it never got soggy or gross in the rain. It dried pretty quickly because there was air coming from the bottom. I took it in for the winter.
In-House Anon
We have an outdoor for our uncovered patio, and I love it. But without a little TLC, it can get gross.
So here’s what we do: after each rain, I lift up as much of the rug as I can (I drape the edges over our patio furniture) to let the rug and patio underneath dry out. The portion of the rug that’s under our outdoor dining table (with the heavy umbrella base) does not get aired out. It’s fine. At the end of the season, we power wash the rug, then let it dry, roll it up, and store it in the garage. It’s a bit of a “hassle,” but I’m willing to put up with it because I love how the rug makes our patio feel like an outdoor room.
anon
We have a similar process. It gets power washed at the end of the season and dried before moving into storage. It also gets hosed off at least a few times throughout the summer. It still looks great (and it was an inexpensive Target option), but I would not recommend a rug unless you’re willing and able to do the maintenance.
Anon
My outdoor rug is fine, but it’s the very plasticy nylon kind and it’s under a roof. It doesn’t really get soggy or wet because it doesn’t absorb water?
Anon
Or I’m not sure it’s nylon at all; it’s just woven plastic. It almost feels like the plastic of a straw, though it looks better. I guess if I were going to get an outdoor rug in your situation, I would get this kind!
anonshmanon
nylon is plastic!
Hollis
I bought one a few years ago and it lives in our outdoor patio. It’s dirty, but I wouldn’t call it gross. Happy with the color and style. From the river site: SAFAVIEH Courtyard Collection 8′ x 11′ Aqua CY8520 Indoor/ Outdoor Waterproof Easy-Cleaning Patio Backyard Mudroom Area-Rug

mosquito repellent like Thermocell
twinkly lights – they make solar-powered ones now
we tend to move our outdoor couch cushions on the back patio in and out each time, but the couch on the covered porch keeps its cushions – they get a bit soggy
+1 to the unbreakable glasses, if you want to splurge Neiman Marcus has beautiful ones

I have this product (but in a different shade) and it is great.
Almost everything I have from Sephora is from the Sephora Collection, and most things are great. However, I am still mourning their old liquid eyeliner; it was absolutely perfect but they changed the formula so now I have to use Kat von D’s tattoo eyeliner.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a light coverage foundation, BB cream, or CC cream?
Anon
I miss their old version of this lipstick so much. I think it was called a stain and had much better staying power than the cream version. I am clinging to my last remaining tubes of it.

I used to love the BareMinerals tinted moisturizer but just switched to NARS and wowwww I love it. I keep admiring my skin midday because it looks so good.

I like both the NARS tinted moisturizer and Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. The Glossier is nicely buildable if you have areas that need a little more coverage.

I bought Bare Minerals tint but feel like it literally looks like nothing on me
I bought this BB cream on Amazon after research on K-beauty options – it’s definitely heavier than Bare Minerals but still very natural.

NARS radiant tinted moisturizer is my holy grail. It never pills, goes on smoothly, and looks natural but better. The color selection is immense.
For slightly more coverage, Estée Lauder futurist hydra rescue.
For a traditional foundation Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear foundation.
Believe me, I’ve tried them all.

Washington DC advice please- is it safe for a woman to walk to the monuments at night? I’m fairly fit and would love a good walk. If not- what is a good tour to see the monuments at night?
Happy to get other DC advice. I’ve been before and loved our Capitol, National Museum, Smithsonian, Thank you.
Anon
With two caveats:
1) I walk alone at night fairly often
2) I never did this fully alone, but frequently would do it with my roommate (so 2 young 20s women)
Since you’re visiting from out of town, it probably matters where you’re coming from (another big city where you walk alone at night? or a smaller, driving centric town?).
But, I would feel safe doing this solo. I would stay on the sidewalk perimeter to travel between monuments (as opposed to cutting across the grass) and then cut across to each monument.
At night, I think the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and Jefferson Monument are cool, they’re also well-lit. I can’t remember if the war monuments are well lit at night or not. I would also stick to nearby monuments (Washington & WWII are right there together; Lincoln / Korea / Vietnam are also right there together)
Anon
If I had to rank, I’d put Washington Monument as having the most foot traffic and easily reachable from Metro and having lots of foot traffic on that route, so safest of the 3. But it’s warm and tourist season, so I’d not feel uncomfortable trying all 3.

We just returned from DC ( was so glad for all the tips from all of you!) and wholeheartedly agree w/ these recs. A good route for a dusk to night( 7:20-9:30pm) walk was to start at at the Lincoln monument, walk along the reflecting pool to the WWII monument , then continue on to the Washington Monument. From there we walked to the Intercontinental hotel (old Willard hotel) and took a cab back to our DuPont Circle Hotel. The monuments are beautiful at night, the temperature was great for walking, and there were a good amount of other tourists out doing the same. One other tip, if you need rides around town we found DC to be consistently about half the cost of anUber, and most drivers were really knew all the landmarks and parts of town. On the downside, it sometimes takes a little longer for pick-up. Enjoy!
ToS
It’s very well-lit and daylight is going further into the evening well into June. Generally there are people around because you will not be the only one from out-of-town that is seeing them after hours, more on the weekend.
Sometimes there are events like free after-hours outdoor concerts in the area (military ensembles with good talent) so there may even be more people.
Anon
Yes, I wouod feel comfortable if it was before 9 or so. DC by Foot has a moonlight monuments tour that is also a really nice option

I have what is a stupid question probably.
TIL my boss designs fabric and some of it is beautiful. I wear a lot of big and loud skirts and she has a pattern that I would love to have made into a skirt. Can any regular tailor do this for me or do I need more of a seamstress or someone totally different? Do I talk to the sewist first about the style (very simple) and then they tell me how much to buy? Does anyone who sews want to be paid to make a skirt for me? Lol
Anon
I feel like this is what Etsy is here for (and you want a waist with some stretch if possible since it can’t be fitted to you) or a pattern that yields finished item measurements.
Anon
What city are you in?
I would call a few local tailors and ask, if they don’t do this they will know who does.
Anon
Would your boss have a recommendation on both a tailor / seamstress and how much might be needed?
Anon
I had a lot of my maternity clothing made by a seamstress attached to a dry cleaning shop. It cost a bit more all-in than just buying things off the rack, but the fit was custom and I had exactly what I wanted so it was worth it to me.

Dominion should only settle if the dollars are high and the sum is not confidential.

What are your favorite ways to eat rotisserie chicken? In a slump…
Anon
As part of a big salad with ranch dressing I make from the packet using real buttermilk and best foods/Hellman’s mayonnaise.
My favorite big salad is a bag of crunchy salad mix (iceberg based), peeled, seeded, and sliced cucumber, drained kidney beans, and then whatever leftover roasted veg I have around – I like asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, or sweet potatoes.

Sounds like we’re salad sisters! I love all salads, even simple dressed greens, but I am truly at my kitchen peak when it comes to “Big Salads.”

Get Soy Vay dressing and make the Chinese chicken salad.
I shred the dark meat into canned greens and add some hot vinegar or wax pepper hot sauce or make it into tacos or enchiladas.
I generally eat the breast alone with a dipping sauce and a vegetable or on top of a bagged salad or on top of avocado toast.

We do some kind of sesame or peanut sauce tossed with egg or rice noodles, shredded carrots, diced bell pepper, shredded cabbage, chopped green onion, cucumber, shredded rotisserie chicken, and topped with cilantro and peanuts. SO good and super healthy. Use the chicken carcass to make stock.

question about stains like this: what kind of chapstick/lip gloss do you wear with them? the NYX version of this comes with a glassy lip gloss that I put on top of everything from this Sephora one to my Nars ones, but it’s a bit gloppy…

With tech neck and aging, I started noticing that my neck is developing more lines (both horizontal and vertical). I started paying more attention to my neck by applying some skincare products on it. It took me three tries before I realized that the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic I use on my face and neck is giving my neck chemical burns. Kept getting a patch of dry skin which turned into a scab and then finally healed with time and vaseline.
Clearly I should stop using this product. I will continue to use moisturizer and sunscreen. Any other serums I can use to deeply moisturize and/or help with the lines?
Anon
I use hyaluronic acid-based serums and creams on my neck and chest. My neck in particular is more sensitive than the rest of me. You’re clearly open to spendy stuff, but honestly, I don’t think you need to spend a lot on a hyaluronic acid.

Another idea is Estee Lauder Night Repair or whatever their brown bottle serum is currently called. It’s very comforting on my neck, and I put it on before bed.
