Suit of the Week

There are a lot of dowdy suits out in the stores right now, which we don't entirely understand — with the economy being what it is, why is no one selling smart, great suits that you can wear to that second-round interview or look uber-professional in if you're fighting to keep your job? (If you haven't realized it yet: if you have a job, you're fighting to keep it.) But, that said, our choice for suit of the week is a bit unusual because it's from Victoria's Secret. Stretch cotton in classic putty or black, with a ladylike but cute pencil skirt and a cute upturned jacket collar with three-quarters sleeves. It's a classic suit with just a bit of a twist, and for those of you looking for less expensive suits, this one definitely fits the bill: the jacket is $98 and the skirt is $59.
Victoria’s Secret does have cute clothes, but in my experience the quality is just awful.
I have had that same experience. Yuck!
Same here. Does someone want to take one for the team and order it to see?
Also, what’s WITH all the dowdiness in the stores this year? Suits, but separates as well.
AVOID stretch cotton. Seasonless stretch is good though.
Has anybody gotten anything from them in cotton stretch? This looks pretty cute:

ops I meant “cotton sateen”
I’ve been so disenchanted to go shopping because it’s such a disappointment when I go over the selection (or lack thereof). Come on, you can’t tell me they are laying off the only folks that have any creative qualities, right? When am I going to see something unboring and wearable? I have some income to spend and I would like to put it towards fighting for my job. Every little bit helps (not to mention boosts my confidence). I’m not saying I have to be on the cutting edge of fashion or replace my closet every season, but there are items that I continue to wear that are well past their prime because there is no alternative to purchase.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I’ve been looking for a good basic two button gray suit for 2 years – so yeah, I definitely feel ya.
Most things on the market are either too old lady (think mother of the bride) or too casual (I don’t want to look like the secretary!).
this is a little off-topic, but to Anonymous at 10:39, check out the clearance items at Brooks Brothers. There’s a gray pinstripe 2-button jacket, matching skirt, and 2 different matching trousers. Their extra 25%-off promotion ends today.
Well, I have this exact suit from Victoria’s Secret. I actually just blogged about finding a pair of fab sunglasses and it reminded me of this suit. The quality and fit is actually quite good on this suit. You don’t have to worry about it. Plus, the price is good.
