Suit of the Week: Boss Black

BOSS Black Jasluna BlazerFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

I’ll be honest: slim pickings this week for a suit that I really liked. I like the color of this one, and I think the darts and seaming on the jacket would be really flattering. That said, I’d probably wear this suit primarily as separates. One thing that’s worth discussing, though: the buttons. I have always been taught that if you leave a button undone on a blazer, it’s the bottom button — never the top button. Here, with a fitted blazer like this, I would think it would look best either a) open and unbuttoned, b) all 3 buttons buttoned, or c) just the middle button buttoned. I think the way it’s styled here — top button undone, as if it were a low-cut blouse — just looks sloppy and as if there’s a fit issue. Am I crazy? Let’s discuss. The jacket (BOSS Black Jasluna Blazer) is $595, and the skirt (BOSS Black Venovi Pencil Skirt) is $325, both at Bloomingdale’s.

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Cap Sleeve Top

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

BOSS Black Cap Sleeve TopNordstrom has a fair number of BOSS Black items marked down right now, including this cap sleeve top.  I’m a sucker for almost any abstract black and white pattern, but I love the way the drape affects the pattern here.  It was $325, now marked to $159.90. Suit of the Week: BOSS Black

In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

I am loving this suit in “rouge noir” from BOSS Black. It strikes me as a really unusual color — a bit of a purpley brown — but one that isn’t so wild and wacky that you can’t wear it to important meetings. I wish the jacket’s front pockets were functional, but so it goes. The jacket (BOSS Black Two Button Jacket) is $595, the skirt (BOSS Black Pencil Skirt) is $275, and the pants (BOSS Black ‘Tirana’ Trousers) are $325, all available at Nordstrom.

Tuesday’s TPS Report: Short Sleeve Knit Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

BOSS Black Short Sleeve Knit DressI know no one’s shopping for themselves right now, but I gotta say: there are some great sales going on. For example, this lovely dress from BOSS Black looks like a great dress. Love the twist detail at the shoulder, as well as the short sleeves and the ladylike length. It was $475, but is now marked to $236 at Nordstrom. BOSS Black Short Sleeve Knit Dress

Call me crazy, but I’m loving the pocket situation with this suit.  The two double-flap pockets look a little sharp, a little … dangerous perhaps (or maybe that’s the model’s stance). The fact that it’s a seasonless stretch wool also sounds lovely.  The jacket (BOSS Black ‘Juicyra’ Tropical Wool Jacket) is $595; the pants (BOSS Black ‘Tulia’ Tropial Wool Pants) are $250.  A matching skirt (not pictured: BOSS Black ‘Veronice’ Tropical Wool Skirt) is also $250, all at Nordstrom.

Tuesday’s TPS Report: Shoulder Ruffle Belted Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

BOSS Black Shoulder Ruffle Belted DressI really like this dress from BOSS Black — it has the brand’s classic, simple lines, high quality, and so forth. The only minor thing is the ruffle detail — there’s a “shoulder ruffle visible from the back.” Is it cute or is it too “I’ve got a parrot on my shoulder” for the office (or, for those geeks among us, too Zaphod Beeblebrox?) Decisions, decisions. If you happen to fall on the “cute” side of the equation, you’re in luck, because the dress is on deep discount at Bloomingdale’s: was $425, now marked to $238 (lots of sizes still available).
