Tuesday’s Workwear Report: Scuba Crepe Sheath Dress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I really like the dark green teal color of this Vince Camuto sheath dress, and I also like the fact that it has sleeves, and the faux split-skirt look. Note that it does have an exposed back zipper. It’s labeled hand wash, i.e., you could take your chances with the hand-wash cycle on your machine. The dress is available in plus, regular, and petite sizes for $148–$158. Scuba Crepe Sheath Dress

Coffee Break: Rickrack Skinny Belt

Where are your favorite places to get skinny belts to go on top of dresses, readers? I always see them on sale at Loft or Ann Taylor — but Kate Spade at Nordstrom often has a bunch, and they often go on sale. This fun zigzag belt (in a “rickrack-inspired shape”(?)) would be great for dresses and tucked in looks — it was $58, but is now marked down to $34.  rickrack skinny belt

Tuesday’s Workwear Report: Mini Check Blazer

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

mini houndstooth blazerHoundstooth can go wrong in a lot of ways, but I don’t see any of those missteps here — the darts and other seams look perfect, the pockets lay beautifully, and I love the uber simple cut with the single black button.  PLUS, I love pieces with a hidden pop of color — here it’s a hot pink lining to the collar (which, of course, also looks good popped). It’s $220 at Nordstrom, from Helene BermanMini Check Blazer

This similar blazer comes in regular, petite, plus, and plus-size petites — and it’s on sale for $78-$86.

Coffee Break: Vixen Bootie

These booties from Sole Society are very highly rated, and they come in seven colors, including gray, burgundy, navy, and a dusky pink. The pictured black suede would be great if you’re looking for a very simple, low-heeled bootie to wear with black tights. The heel is 2.25″ and they have a side zip. The available sizes are 4–12, which is a wider than average range. They’re on sale for $60 (down from $99) at Nordstrom. Vixen Bootie

Wednesday’s Workwear Report: Stretch Knit Trousers

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We just did a roundup of comfortable workwear for late nights, and these stretch knit trousers from NYDJ have gotten lots of shout-outs as pants that are comfortable but also appropriate to wear all day — they’re not just something to change into after hours. They are very highly rated and come in navy (pictured), black, and gray, in regular sizes (00–16) and petite (00–18). Nordstrom has them for $114. Stretch Knit Trousers

The same pant is available in plus sizes, and huzzah: It’s on sale. Amazon and Lord & Taylor also carry regular and plus sizes.

Workwear Hall of Fame: Mehira Linen Blazer

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

mehira-linen-blazerThis fun leopard blazer first caught my eye over at Zappos, but for once Saks has the best price — not only is it marked from $298 to $238, but it’s eligible for their Friends and Family sale, so the price comes down to $178. (They also have it in a pale pink “mink” and a creamy “porcelain.”) I like the mix of linen and leopard print — it seems fun but also like a versatile basic. The Mehira cut seems to be a Joie classic (although some have buttons and some do not) — they have it in a “caviar” print at Nordstrom, and there are very limited sizes of other solid colors (navy, black) around the web. Off Fifth has a chambray linen version marked down to $130.89. Ladies, what else do you like to buy at Saks during their F&F sales? Joie Mehira Linen Blazer

2016 Update: The Mehira blazer has been around for years at this point in different colors and fabrics (crepe, linen, chambray, etc), and it always sells out — so we’re adding it to our Workwear Hall of Fame.  Look for it new at Nordstrom, Saks, and Bergdorf Goodman — it may also be deeply discounted at places like Nordstrom Rack and Off Fifth.
