Hi guys — I'm seeing some reports of people not being able to click/comment on the Weekend Open Thread. I can't recreate the problem on my end in any of my browsers. If anyone is still having the problem, can you give me more info? (Specifically — does the page get “stuck” while trying to load something? You can usually tell by watching the gray bar at the bottom of the web page, which shows the various various things being loaded and connections being made (see screenshot below).
I know there were a lot of other general complaints re tech troubles — what is specifically still happening for people now (not several weeks ago)? Thank you all for your help (and for your patience!). Thank you!
(Regarding the comments-not-staying-filled-with-your-names issue, this was the response from my tech guys, below: we're going to continue to investigate — if you have any other info on it, please contact us so we can correspond with you directly on the problem.)
That information input in the Comments form is cached in the visitors browser,
you can prevent your browser from caching form fields, but since this is happening to only some of your visitors that means that their individual settings are set to have the AutoComplete feature off in their own browsers.
And here's that other screenshot I mentioned…

Hi Kat, When my weekend comments wouldn’t load, nothing would load – it was a blank, white screen. No loading bar. This happened both yesterday and this morning, running Chrome.
Brunette Elle Woods
Same thing happened to me on my Mac but I could load comments on my iPhone.
Cat
Same, yesterday, on IE 10. I can see the comments now on Safari.
Generally speaking, the s!te is very slow loading compared to other blogs. I estimate 7-10 seconds – plus another 7-10 to get to the comments – plus another 7 to 10 to wait for the page to reload after posting a comment – which sounds ridiculous but when I only have a few minutes downtime during the day…
Eta that performance seems better on this post – about 3 sec load
The delay started becoming the most noticeable with the bank of s!tes we love promos, but the volume of video ads, even those that don’t auto play, seems to have increased as well.
Sara
same here. Your web management folks probably don’t realize their version of Perl is buggy and should be upgraded. In other words, it’s like trying to get on a superhighway with a smart car! Tell them to check their release and upgrade so that we can see and read the comments! This is no longer 2008!
NYNY
This happened to me both on my PC running Firefox and my iPad running Chrome. No load bar, just a white page.
Yup
Same for me on my PC but I can load on my iPhone.

Is the problem still occurring? When it occurred, was it just that post, or several posts? thx!
Wildkitten
No longer occurring. Just that post.

Today it’s good. On Friday it was just the weekend thread.

Sorry, that was me…because my handle didn’t load. #sadtrombone :-)

I’m having the problem this morning on the Monday thread. Safari, Mac. White page. Home page is fine, this page is fine and the open thread is fine.
Sydney Bristow
Me too. Internet Explorer.
Home page and previous threads are fine. Monday’s TPS thread just shows a blank white page and no indication that the page is still trying to load.
As for the name sticky issue, it is happening for me on my work computer (IE), iphone, and ipad. It is also only occurring for this site.
Brit
Also having issues with today’s post. Firefox. Just a blank page – everything else has been able to load.
Cat
Adding that the number of comments on the main page is hit or miss on whether it updates, then when I click to show comments, I then have to refresh the page for all comments to show. Happens most often in IE (I have no choice on work comp).
Also, I don’t have auto complete blocked, and my name disappeared from the comment form since an hour ago. Safari.
Brit
I also have issues with comments updating – I use Firefox at work, where I see it.
Wildkitten
I also don’t have autocomplete blocked and the comment name bug was hitting me. as well.
Wildkitten
I’m intrigued by the claim that the username auto-complete is only not working for some of the visitors. Are there really folks who are NOT having an autocomplete problem? What browser are those folks using?

When I just tried to load the Weekend Open Thread I got a blank screen (trying both from the Previous Post link on this thread and from the main page).
Anonymous
That’s what happened to me too. Still can’t see it at all. I use Firefox on a Mac.
Liz
Likewise!
Anon Worker Bee
This is on Firefox, Chrome, and IE 11 on Windows 7.

I’m questioning the response about name field autocomplete since my screen name hasn’t gotten lost on any other s!tes and I haven’t changed any browser settings.
meme
Same. And my screen name is now blank (not auto populating) on all the various devices I use (Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad; using both Safari and Chrome).
Anonymous
Yeah, that response is bs
Anon Worker Bee
I haven’t changed anything with my browser and I just commented yesterday and my name is not auto-filled today. I work in IT and this response sounds like the typical “Is your modem connected?” answer given by lazy tech people who would rather blame the users than do actual work.
Edited to add that I know this sounds harsh but I work with a lot of guys who won’t do more than the bare minimum to help their users and instead just say “Stupid is as stupid does”.
Wildkitten
Agreed. No way all of us just changed all our browser settings on all of our different computers on all our different browsers. Blaming user error for something suddenly happening to everyone is totally bull. I can’t decide if I’m offended that you passed their explanation on to us but I’m definitely offended that they said that to you. Get a new IT company.
Sunshine
Agreed. It’s not an autocomplete issue. This is the kind of explanation that a lazy IT person gives to someone they know isn’t a techie so the questioner will quit asking what the IT person sees as a “petty” question/concern. This kind of IT person annoys me to no end. They don’t see – or care – why the question is important and they don’t understand the user community so they try to brush it off.
OK, rant over. I obviously have run into enough bad IT people and as an IT person I hate when this happens.
HSAL
Same (though the field is currently populated on my phone). Chrome, no change in settings.

Not sure if it’s related, but the newsletter page is blank for me: https://corporette.com/newsletter/
case of the mondays
Can’t open the comments on the Monday thread and won’t auto fill name for this response; can open C-Moms and name auto-fills fine, can open tech thread, and now can open weekend open (although I couldn’t yesterday). Using Chrome. No issues on my iPhone with Safari.
I’ve been having to refresh multiple times to get an accurate count for comments.
Anon Worker Bee
Great point: My name does auto-fill on C-Moms but not here.

I had the blank page when I clicked on the weekend thread issue last week, but I thought it was just my computer or internet (it was acting slow in general that day). Now I am able to open the weekend thread, but the Monday thread doesn’t open at all – it’s a completely blank screen. No error messages, just a blank nothingness.
Chrome version 43.0.2357.81 m if that helps.
Meg Murry
Although it does work on my phone, and it just worked now by doing “ctrl-enter” to refresh the Monday thread. Not sure if it was the refreshing that brought it back, or if it was just down for a minute and now it’s back.

I had no trouble this weekend on my Android at home. This morning at the office, I could originally read comments, but now, while it tells me there are X amount of comments, when I click on the comment link, the same 11 commments I could see earlier are the only ones showing.
ETA, the only way for me to “refresh” the comments is to comment (and then delete).
Okay
Hey Kat,
Sorry for all your tech troubles. Just wanted to let you know that your blog runs great on my work computer. We have IE 11, but the rest of our tech is in the dark ages. So hope that data point helps somehow.
Kat G
Arrgh — ok. Will go back to them and say it’s everyone (even though, honestly, I can’t recreate the problem — I am always logged in.) The comments refreshing thing is a caching problem — which is also related to the slow loading. If I turn on caching the page loads more quickly but comments don’t update on a regular basis. If I turn off caching the page loads super slowly. This is a medium ground that thus far seems to be working well.
I’m going to get my server company involved re: white pages and see what they say — I wonder if this is a problem on their end.

I haven’t received my daily email from your site for over a week now! I clicked on the “newsletter” link this afternoon to re-subscribe and it’s a blank page.
Moms Site Too!
Hi — I just wanted to say I’m not having problems with this site right now, but I am getting ads in the middle of the page on the CorporetteMom site. I can’t read comments or click on the weekend open thread due to a Garnier ad.
Thanks!
Kelli
I have not received your daily email in over a week, either…. Was wondering what was wrong. Came here and saw I was not the only one with that problem.
