Just as an FYI, Amazon launched its Kindle Matchbook program. You can buy kindle versions of certain titles that you bought in hardcover or paperback from Amazon for pretty cheap or free.
I’ve been buying kindle books for years so don’t have many non-kindle purchases, none of which were available for the program. I think it’s up to the publishers whether it not to participate. Wanted to pass along the info though in case anyone has better luck!
hoola hoopa
Thanks for the FYI!

The CEO in the SFGate article gets my blood boiling. I am 5’0. I need to wear 3 1/2 to 4 inch heels just to get close to the rest of my peers. BTW, my heels are all conservative (no stilletos, platforms, etc.).

Marise, I understand being very short can make you feel very vulnerable in a professional setting. But a very short woman on very high heels looks even shorter. Kind of like France’s ex-president Sarkozy, who wasn’t shorter than the average guy but whose heels call attention to how he feels about his size, earning him ‘the dwarf’ as a nickname..
Anon for the Firestorm
The CEO is right.
Are hooker heels appropriate for a networking event? Yes. If one is a hooker.
Self harm IS stupid. Plus bringing that kind of attention to your feet suggests you are lacking between the ears. Those shoes were absolutely ridiculous.
That so many women got their panties up in a bunch over this is very telling. (And yes I do rock heels at work, but not platform 5″ stilettos or anything that screams Sex Me Baby! Didn’t your mama ever explain to you what those shoes are selling?)
The male equivalent: skin tight pants that showcase junior front and center.
Neither is fooling anyone.

Completely agreed.

Because secretly taking pictures of people’s footwear and calling them stupid in a public forum is totally professional and appropriate.

Right – I think that there are two different issues here. I think that most of us would not consider very tall platform heels to be professional footwear, yet would also expect more from a CEO than publicly judging someone’s intelligence by that footwear.

Hey, he didn’t post a full photo with her face.. And saying aloud what many of us think is not necessarily unprofessional. If all the women complaining about this took the opportunity to really listen to what’s being said instead, they might actually be better off.

Better than the Levo summary is the original TED talk http://www.ted.com/talks/amy_cuddy_your_body_language_shapes_who_you_are.html Every woman needs to watch this :-).
Much more effective than heels, imho.
