- The Fine Young Gentleman (writing for Business Insider) has a handy Excel chart for which color shoes you can and cannot wear with which color pants. I think it's helpful for women as well (and possibly for tights/shoes/skirts combos as well).

- SheFinds tells you how to look good on your commute (something we've talked about a lot here!).

- The Washington Post advises you to stop checking your phone in meetings — particularly if your boss is a woman.
- Interesting: Above the Law reports on a new survey about making partner at law firms that has some bad news — women take longer to make partner, feel less prepared, and have less expectations for being the rainmakers.

The Business Insider article wants us to all grab A twin set? Really?! I love the comfort factor but that reads totally 90s/early 2000s to me.

Sorry–that was the Greedy Associates article.

She is clearly not talking to readers of thissite. I’m not sure who she is speaking to.

From now on I’m just buying all navy suits. Navy: the great equalizer.
Ashley
I suspect you may be joshing, but as I have aged and am embracing my natural hair color (dark auburn verrrrry slowly turning white), I was shocked to find that I look fabulous in navy. So, yes, I have been on a seriously navy buying spree.
Ashley
Try “serious”, not “seriously”.
MH
No, I was being completely serious. The chart was great because it just gives me even more of a reason to buy navy.

Recently, a male colleague of mine made a remark about working with women in charge. We are consultants in the technology industry. We work directly with high level executives, suggesting and implementing software. His remark startled me and changed my impression of him. Basically, he said in his 18+ years experience, he has not worked well with any female executives. He feels that they are always trying to challenge, contradict or “boss” him around. As if they have something to prove over him. Professionally, he is very likeable and does not convey this to the clients. It is his personally and private opinion that he shared with me. It had made me feel like he secretly does not respect professional women. I do not take his comment personally but it has changed my impression of him. It bothers me.
wildkitten
It is right that this bothers you.
Anon
You know, I bet the male execs challenge him and ask the same types of questions.
It’s just that he thinks it’s OK, whereas he is operating from the assumption and starting point that women are inferior and therefore (1) they should not challenge him and their challenging him is a huge affront and (2) they are inferior so they have something to prove.
He’s an @ss.

I’m the original poster.
Yes, I agree you completely. I no longer have respect for him.
Have a great weekend all.

Smash the patriarchy. And have a great weekend.

Anyone else think some of those shoe/hem matches are just weird? And do business men really wear green shoes? And I will keep on wearing black shoes with brown skirts and pants when I feel like it, Mr. Fashion Police.
Aerith
Black and brown definitely go together… and who wears a shell with a silk blouse? Sometimes I think people run out of things to say and start making stuff up.
Elysian
I am wearing black shoes with brown pants today, and I think they go together quite well, thankyouverymuch.
Do a lot of men really have purple/green/burgundy shoes? I feel like I don’t see those colors often on men’s shoes.
Anon
I don’t see men in those shoe-colors either. Although after reading that post, I think I’m making some bad color combos in my own clothes and shoes. Oh well. Live and learn, right?
Ugh
This is the third time since we broke up that my ex-boyfriend is featured on thisssite. I dated the fine young gentleman last year.
And yes, while most of the time he is dressed to the nines, I have seen him in paint-stained athletic shorts and a lacrosse t-shirt from high school.

My kindergartener produces better Excel presentations.
Amateur.
Ugh
I love the backup!
Wildkitten
I want to back you up too! I think the comment about “what man wears green shoes” is a good one. UGH Lacrosse! Should we lobby Kat to ban him from the site? His weird spreadsheet wasn’t enough to me to value him over you, so I’d vote for NO MORE THAT GUY.
kjoirishlastname
Really, no brown & purple?? Seems like that would be a relatively safe combination. I mean, maybe not purple pants/brown shoes, or brown pants/purple shoes, but a neat tweedy brown skirt, purple sweater & tights? Could be nice. Not particularly conservative, but bold in a funky way.
Lady Harriet
Also, no dark brown and maroon? That seems like a really classic color combination.
tesyaa
I used to have a maroon sweater I wore with a brown skirt, and I sometimes wondered about it. I decided it was OK.
