In that list of modern relationships, the comments are also good. How unusual.

Hive, where do I want to stay for a girls weekend in Chicago in September? I’ve never been and have no idea!
TO Lawyer
I’m going in a couple weeks with my boyfriend and we’re staying at the Thomson Chicago. Other great options we considered were the Virgin, the James Hotel and the Drake. Around $200-$250 a night which is not the cheapest option but I like nice trendy well-kept hotels. I think we narrowed our search to around the Loop, which I’m told is central but take that FWIW because I’ve never been either.

TO Lawyer, are you flying Porter into Midway? I am trying to decide whether to fly into O’Hare (direct from Ottawa but not so great departure time) or through TO on Porter into Midway.
I had also looked at the James, thanks for the other suggestions, although now my friend is saying she wants to stay in the Wicker Park area…..
TO Lawyer
We’re flying Porter into Midway. I’ve heard O’Hare is a disaster so I’ll be glad to be avoiding that one. But that’s an added benefit – I love porter so if it’s an option, it’s always my first choice.

I love love love Porter too, although I’ve never had to connect, having flown direct to TO and Halifax only.
Looks like my girlfriend might be flying into Midway, from Atlanta too (she needs to check). I had just assumed O’Hare. The flight times are better flying Porter into Midway too.
Yay, I am getting excited.
Have a great time!

I disagree with the article on wet vs. dry haircuts. I think as long as the stylist sees your hair when it’s dry, and you describe to them how you want your hair to look when it’s dry, they should have a good idea of how to cut it while it’s wet to give it that look. The problem is that a lot of stylists, especially in bigger salons, don’t bother to meet with you for a consultation while your hair is dry. They send someone to get you washed up (often ten minutes after your appointment was supposed to start) while they take a break between clients. This is why I like going to a smaller salon now. Sure, I can’t get my hair cut, brows waxed, and nails done all in one visit, but I get excellent attention from my stylist, before and after the shampoo.
Then again, I get a pretty simple, blunt bob. No layers, no texture, no angles, and maybe those elements do need to be fine-tuned on dry hair. I’ve definitely had stylists try to create texture while my hair is wet and the hair always came out funky.
