I won’t be attending a college friend’s bachelorette party, but I wanted to send a gift. Can I mail champagne?

It depends which state she lives in. You can buy it and have it delivered from a store, if it is permissibly by her state.

In my state, you can’t. But in my relative’s state, you can.
So I bought a bottle of gin online in my Uncle’s state at a liquor retailor that did shipping within the state.
Alternatively, maybe you could do a task rabbit. Hire someone local to buy the champagne, wrap and deliver.

I suggest you have it sent from an online retailer. But even then it’s kind of a pain because it has to be signed for. Maybe contact the party venue and have them provide it?

Yup – I have a family member that works for a wine distributor (they are the ones that actually mail out the wine people buy from those “wine of the month” groupon deals). If no one is there to sign for the UPS/FedEx delivery (and they have to be 21 and show ID), the delivery goes back to the distributor and the person doesn’t get their money back. But the distributor can’t re-sell the wine once it’s left the warehouse, in case it has been tampered with or has been in conditions like high heat, etc that would screw up the wine. So the employees get to take it for free – which means I have a free wine source, SCORE!
Do you have any mutual college friends that are going? Could you send that person money and ask them to pick up a bottle?

If you really wanted to ship it, I don’t think anyone will be inspecting packages. Just wrap it well so that it will not break in transit.

What about having it delivered from a local wine store or delivery app in the city of the party?

Thanks, ya’ll. I think I’ll have something shipped from a regular wine store to a friend’s office… someone will be there to sign for it and it’s legal. Bon weekend!

The ATL column talks about technology’s impact on the work ethic. Building on that, does anyone else encounter the problem of receiving emails from superiors at all hours of the night expecting a response immediately? Like, I am all for being responsive, but I am definitely finding that partners are demanding more from associates because of remote connectivity.
