  1. That Racked article makes some good points, but misses some stuff as well. I find it frustrating when quantitative arguments are presented (“the dose makes the poison”) without any math. Only we know what beauty products we’re combining! I’m not even talking about carcinogens or whatnot; it’s easy to produce a multi-step beauty ritual that’s too rough on your skin because more than one product has retinols or acne treatments, etc. I’ve heard that Korean skin products specify the percentage of active ingredient, and this sounds like a great idea to me–we can ration sensibly if we actually know how much we’re getting.

(Also sad to see more mockery of “gluten-free cheese.” This kind of labeling would only be stupid and misleading if it were actually true that all cheese is wheat-free; maybe it should be, but it’s definitely not. Sigh!)

    1. PS. Although I wanted a little more from the Racked article, I am a big fan of thebeautybrains for helping me assess questionable product claims.

  2. The WSJ article about non-iron is disappointing. I hoped it would get into the chemicals used as part of the debate.

  3. Hi hive,
I have been having a crazy/tough few weeks, and I just wanted to know if anyone has any advice for destressing during those times when everything has gone off the rails. During the past two weeks, I’ve had my grandmother pass away suddenly, a chemical pregnancy, two job opportunities, and news that my current job is undergoing a significant shift in the near future. Basically, I feel super stressed out and anxious. I’ve never taken any meds for this, but usually I only feel this kind of stress for a day or so. Not all of these things are bad, but it often seems easier to just keep things the same, and that’s not really an option. Thanks in advance for any advice/virtual hugs :)

    1. Virtual hugs from here! I’m sorry for the loss of your grandmother!

Can you take the weekend off for some Netflix and relaxing?

I’m in a similar boat to you — lots going on, most of it good, but super overwhelming! And I would love to have a weekend to kick back and relax! (Maybe some time in July…)

      1. Thank you! Virtual hugs to you, too. One of the new opportunities unfortunately requires a lot of studying, so I’ve been spending any time off working on that. While it sort of is additional stress, it’s also been a good distraction. Once that’s over, I think I will just go into full-blown couch potato mode for a few weekends. Cannot wait!

    2. Virtual hugs from me too! Would it help to think about things as “one day at a time.” e.g. you only have to tackle Friday on Friday, Saturday pn Saturday, etc. Might reframe things in as much of a manageable way as possible.

      1. Ohh I love that idea. That definitely makes it seem a lot more manageable. Thank you!
