Ladies, I need some advice and hugs. I just got shitcanned at work today, after being at a job for less than one month (truth be told some sh*t happened during the recruiting process that should have warned me not to take this job. I am elated that I am free to find the sort of job that I want but also frightened to death. I believe that Wildkitten has a similar thing happen to her>

Ladies, I need some advice and hugs. I just got fired at work today, after being at a job for less than one month (truth be told some things happened during the recruiting process that should have warned me not to take this job. When asked why, I got some strange excuses that I kept my door closed and did not speak with people and that I was too slow at my work (keep in mind that I had only been there three weeks. I am elated that I am free to find the sort of job that I want but also frightened to death. I believe that Wildkitten has a similar thing happen to her.
Senior Attorney
I’m so sorry! Here are ALL THE HUGS!!!
My advice is to take the weekend to get over the shock, then dust yourself off and find the job that is right for you!

OP here. I am elated but I am scared that I will never be employed again (I know it is crazy!!!) I am attorney who worked her way from a contract manager position to a corporate counsel position and I took my last position after I was laid off from a Fortune 500 company after a major reorg. I felt really beaten down by the job search, haveing had to hear lots of snotty commments about my lack of law firm background and being female and a person of color certainly does not help!!

I’m surprised you say that you have in-house counsel experience, are female and a person of color and that’s going to hurt your chances of finding employment? At my firm, the partners obnoxiously refer to someone with those three characteristics as a “unicorn.” The partners at my firm would literally be tripping over each other to be the first one to recruit you and make you the head of our diversity initiative (not trying to be a jerk at all, but this is literally the kind of conversation they have about women of color).

Sorry Anon! I would be scared too. But after you recover from the shock, you will find what is sure to be a much better job. Good luck!
