Probably a dumb question: can I wear silver jewelry with gold shoes? I have a pair of gold wedge sandals I wear all the time to work in the summer. Trust me this is okay: my boss is currently wearing a pair of running shoes I suspect are old enough to vote. I got them because they were practically a nude-for-me. Right now I’m wearing some chunky silver jewelry, and I’m worried that I’m mixing metals in a way that seems like an accident instead of intentionally fashion-y.
I think mixing metals used to be a fashion no no, similar to brown shoes black belt, but at this point it is a matter of personal preference, especially since so many women have mixed metal watches or wedding rings or other sentimental jewelry that you always wear that are platinum or white gold – should you never wear gold again because it doesn’t match your wedding ring/sentimental jewelry? I think not.
I always wear one two-tone piece to tie everything together. I think someone with more fashion sense can make intentional mismatches work, but I’m a bit style-challenged and play it safe.
I do this all the time. Gold shoes, especially sandals, are a great neutral. IMO.
My favorite daily wear necklace is silver.
Add in my rose gold Apple watch…
So, if you’re wrong, you can come sit next to me.
I’ve heard people say mixing metals is a no but I do it every day. The two pieces of jewelry I wear every day mix metals so I can’t bring myself to get worked up over this
You can mix metals. It’s not a fashion faux pas that I know of however silver is a cool tone and gold is a warm tone and usually one looks better than the considering your complexion.
My position is that all metallics are neutrals and, therefore, they all go together.
I mix metals all the time on purpose. I also think navy and black and brown can go together nicely – all depends on the styling, so you may or may not want to listen to me.
I have my graduation commencement tonight. Skipped right from anxious excitement to impending doom bordering on paranoia. Fun stuff. But on the bright side, I get the fancy paper tonight! How do you all store these things?
Mine’s still in the flat mailer it came in.
In a frame on the wall!
In the envelope it came in on a shelf in the closet.
Behind my office garbage can. I’m pretty sure I’m the only attorney in the office who doesn’t have it on the wall, but the hook on the frame fell off and I’ve been too lazy to reframe it. For 6 years. But congratulations!
In a frame, because it was one expensive piece of paper.
One framed, one in the envelope holder thingy.
Framed on my office wall. I bought the matted frames from the campus bookstore because I knew it would take me forever to get it done on my own.
My dad framed mine and put it on the dining room wall. He said he paid for it, so he might as well brag to his freinds b/c no one thought I would ever become a lawyer, let alone become a partner. All his freinds thought I would just be married and lounging poolside all day! Dont I wish! Since there is nothing I can get framed for being a partnert, he is keeping my GW degrees on his walls, even tho he has Harvard, MIT and Stamford degrees of his own!
I could not tell you where my law diploma or any certificate is. I have art on my office walls, which I enjoy looking at.
