I have a somewhat embarrassing question: I’ve noticed that my closet is starting to smell… funky. Like a mix of BO and dry cleaning chemicals, notwithstanding the fact that nothing has been dry cleaned since I started working from home in March. I’m not wearing any of my real work clothes, but they seem to be emitting some sort of latent odor (which also makes me wonder if I used to be smelly in the office and no one told me). Any ideas for how to get rid of (and prevent) the funk?

A few ideas:
– can you get items out and in the sun for a day or two?
– keep your closet door open as much as you can
– go ahead and dry-clean the dry-cleanable items; when they get back let them air out for a couple days before putting them back in the closet
– stuff any shoes with charcoal deodorizing bags
– hang a couple of the large charcoal deodorizing bags in the closet
If these don’t work, I recommend doing a sniff test to see if it’s one main troublemaker – I had a synthetic cardigan once that was rank enough to contaminate other things. You could try washing anything funky with a deodorizing detergent – someone on this board recommended Hex.
