Yay! A sale day, but I have to work. The manageing partner needs for us to work, even tho it is a NATIONEAL Holiday. FOOEY. When I was goeing to school in DC, EVERYONE celabrated MLK day. They even had peeople comeing around the dorm’s askeing if we wanted to go on the GREEN line to a celabration in Anacostia. I did NOT want to go, but other’s did. I wish I had gone b/c there were alot of peeple from GW there that day.
This weekend, I celabrated my MOM’s birthday, so that took up alot of my time. We ate all 3 pie’s I baked. Dad had some to, so he could NOT compleain about my tuchus to much. He does want for me to get MARRIED this year. I think I will try harder. Grandma Leyeh again mentioned Sheketovits, but that drunk is NOT in the picture and I am NOT about to let him back in my life.

Feeling a little down and need some advice. I was supposed to have a phone interview this morning with a recruiter for a company that I am really interested in. The recruiter never called. Should I follow up with her to reschedule, or just assume that I have been again rejected out of hand?
Anon
Is it possible that you were supposed to call the recruiter and they’re sitting wondering you why you blew them off?
And I would absolutely follow up! That’s incredibly unprofessional and is a strange way to show rejection.

Call them, then email if no response.

Maybe the recruiter didn’t realize today was a holiday when they set it up?

+1 I think this is the likely explanation. Definitely follow up though. I would call and then assuming you don’t get the recruiter on the phone, send an email.

Agree with all of this. Who calls who is an easy miscommunication, but so too is the recruiter scheduling this before realizing it was a holiday, which means s/he might not have seen work calendar reminders about things scheduled.
Also – is there a potential time difference issue with the location of you vs the caller? I’ve seen tons of people, especially those who should know better, do that wrong!

Will ask again tomorrow, but does anyone have suggestions on a nice, moderately priced place to stay in Washington, D.C., at the end of March? Fun trip, not work-related. I used to live around Clarendon many years ago, and have thought about staying out there, but my companion has never been to D.C. so staying downtown-ish is tempting.

I’ve had good luck finding the Washington Court Hotel on New Jersey for $100 per night on discount sites, depending on what’s going on in the city. I’ve sometimes managed to find the Hyatt Regency that’s a block away on discount sites, as well. They’re walking distance to Union Station and the mall. Both hotels have beautiful rooms.
Know that both are a couple blocks from the city’s homeless shelter, and people who aren’t used to seeing homeless people get VERY freaked out by this, so there can be negative reviews online. I’ve always felt safe in the area. It’s close enough to the Capitol that it’s patrolled by Capitol police as well as D.C. police.

If you are to be in DC at the end of March, you may be abel to go to the Jeferson Monmument and see the cherry blossom’s. I do NOT know if your “companion” is a romantic companion or just a travel buddy, but it is VERY romantic by the Cherry Blossom’s by the Jeferson that time of year. So with that in mind, I would look ON LINE for places around GW, where I went to school in NW, or even in SW DC, tho the pickeings are slimmer down there. You might start with the Mariott on 23rd Street, which used to have good free roast beef at happy hour if you bought a drink– I ate alot of roast beef when I was in college and law school, and my tuchus can serve as proof of that! FOOEY! Or you can stay in downtown DC, near 12th and PA, and that let’s you alot closer to the Smithsonian museums. Again, it all depend’s on your “companion”. If you are romantic with him, you should consider a nicer room with a soft bed b/c you will want to spend more time there then out seeing thing’s but I say get OUT and see DC, b/c you can always see his anatomy at home. YAY!!!

My friend found a great last-minute “downtown” hotel (she wasn’t specific) on TripAdvisor when she went to DC over the holidays. March is spring break time and a lot of schools plan trips then so maybe try smaller hotels/B&Bs?

We got a pretty decent deal on the Westin in Logan Circle earlier this year. It was a great location, we could walk to the Mall and all the touristy stuff, were close to several metro stops, and took the bus to a concert we went to a few miles away. I loved that neighborhood and would stay there again.

I was just in DC last week for a conference and got a crazy cheap rate on Travelzoo for a Hyatt Place/National Mall that had just opened and included hot breakfast for $107/night. Block and a half walk to L’Enfant Plaza Metro. Worked really well.

I find it sad to see no mention or pause for reflection on the significance of Dr. King’s life and work before launching into enjoyment of one’s long weekend and sale shopping.

Argh, the “+1” was to the original commenter, w/r/t a moment to consider Dr. King’s life and work.

This would be problematic if the blog recognized George Washington on President’s Day or famous union figures on Labor Day. However, since it calls out all of those holidays only in terms of sales and long weekends I think it’s fair to do the same on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I agree with abcdefg.
