Happy New Year to the ENTIRE Hive! I can’t beleive that Kat has found all of these websights for us to look for sale’s! Thank’s Kat! I am haveing alot of troubel getting up and off my tuchus this morning.I am SOOO tired from watcheing TV and eateing last night! Myrna came home with her freind, who I let come over and help bake apple pie with us. She was probabley a littel smarter then I thought. She did NOT realy want to sleep with the men she was drinkeing with up in the Catskill’s. She did get those schlub’s to buy her and Myrna drink’s, and she told the men that I would also be interested in goeing out — which was NOT true–one of the schlubs took her serius and wound up tryeng to date me. This Jeb then thought that b/c I was a professional from NYC — the big city, that I would be availeable for him sexueally b/c in his mind, ladies from the City are free with their bodie’s for men. Where in the world could he get that Idea from? He said Sex and The City. I am NOT Miranda, even tho I AM an attorney at law, duly admitted to practice in the First Department of the Apelallate Division, with special WC certification from the State of NY. But all of that does NOT mean that any man that buy’s me a drink is entitled to have sex with me. NO WAY, HOZE. A drink is cheap and I do NOT like strange men huffeing and puffeing on top of me. It is bad enough that I had to put up with Sheketovits, but NO MORE. I have turned over a new leaf with men. This is the year for me, and Grandma Leyeh says if I do NOT conceive this year, I will probabley NEVER conceive, so I am goeing to be very selective with the men in my life and find a WINNER.
I hope the ENTIRE HIVE has the same goal’s realized in 2016. YAY!!!!

I’m not sure if it was on this or the mom’s s*te, but I just wanted to sincerely thank whoever recommended a book by Ellyn Satter a few weeks ago. I got her book Child of Mine, and it has helped me so much. I highly recommend it to any parent who has had any kind of struggle with disordered eating/disordered thinking about food or who has struggles with trying to feed their child (the book specifically targets newborn-5 years old). I don’t think it’s too strong to say that this book has changed my life, and has completely changed my perspective on food and the feeding relationship I have with my daughter. I’m just thankful I read it now before I continued to make the mistakes I was making. Whoever said that having a child really forces you to face your own issues was not kidding.

This book saved my sanity when my now teenager was a baby. I still use its lessons today and my boys are 12 and 16. I am so glad you found it!

What fun or self-indulgent thing(s) would you do if you’re a mom with a toddler and you’re on your own for a weekend or more?
The long story is that I confronted my husband with how he’s jerk-y towards me when he’s upset about work, feeling guilty, or overwhelmed. It happens often and I’m tired of apologizing or explaining it away to myself. He says that he will seek help and maybe spend some time away from us.
When I think about it I tear up but trying to focus on being positive and “doing what I want” with the separation time if it happens. So far I’ve come up with going to the zoo or finding a Gymboree class. More in the fun category than self indulgent. Maybe get a massage? I know one massage therapist who said he wouldn’t mind a child there.
Thanks for your help. And happy new year :-)

Get a massage as you have mentioned.
Find a sitter and then go out to meet friends, or find friends who won’t mind a toddler. Or invite them home.
Go to the park.

Take your kid to the zoo and then leave next weekend for your massage/

Thanks for the advice. We went to the park this morning then after that we did a short run/walk to the zoo and back, although only I saw animals because she was asleep. The spouse is still here and took her to the museum in the afternoon. I totally agree that a child free period of time to “figure out what’s going on” is unfair. That’s probably part of the or a larger problem.

My spouse travels frequently and for extended periods for work, so I have more experience than I would like with weekends alone with our three year old. I usually try to plan one play date so I get to spend some time with another adult, one trip somewhere (museum, zoo, aquarium, etc.) because I find that less taxing than being the primary source of entertainment at home, and then I work out daily (either a run with my kid or a class at a barre studio with childcare). Even though we don’t do much screen time, I cut myself a break when I’m by myself and feel like I need some alone time.

Hmm, so he acts like a jerk and gets a relaxing child-free weekend?
It is not possible to do anything self-indulgent while you’re looking after a toddler. Getting a massage while watching your kid will be a waste of money. Spend the money on a babysitter instead and just sit in a cafe for a few hours.
Anonymous
I agree with all of this. I think toddlers and massages don’t mix.

What? No. He doesn’t get to just stop being a parent to figure things out. Forget self-indulgence. Cancel cable, sell his car, and call a divorce lawyer.
Or, arrange that you each get a child free alone day every weekend for a month. And remind him that he does not get to figure out how to be a dad because he is one.
Jules
Agree. There is a solution easily at hand. If he is not there when you need him for support with the child, the next time he wants to make whoopie, just tell him that your hands are already full with your child and you do not want to do anything more in moments of wild abandon that might create a second child. Then lock your legs together and watch how soon he comes around when it comes to child rearing.
