Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
Talbots is having some pretty good sales, but it's primarily lucky-size territory. (Sizes 10 and up, get yourselves over there and poke around.) For today's TPS, we like this jacket — an interesting print to wear once in a while, and we like a touch of spandex in a jacket.
It comes in black and red, in regulars, petites, women's, and women's petites. Formerly $129, now $36, and still available in a wide range of sizes. Lace Print Jacket

This looks a little “old” to me… anyone else? I could see my mother wearing it.
LPC
I’m probably your mother’s age, and I think it looks like a curtain. But, it’s an IMHO opinion. Won’t get you fired. I don’t think.
Res Ipsa
I like this design as a casual Friday option, when you want to still wear a blazer in the event you get called into a meeting.
LZ, I agree that print/design blazers (see, e.g., Coldwater Creek) can head into dangerous “When I am Old, I Shall Wear Purple” territory, but if you are judicious, some of them are a nice option with black slacks when you’re stumped what to wear.

I like it! My wardrobe is neutrals and I think this would bring some color. The potential “curtain”-ness doesn’t bother me. I think it would be fun.
LYA
I kind of like it too! I think w/ slim-fitting jeans it could be fun on a casual Friday.
Radu
Haha– I was just going to run to Talbots after work today, but after reading those comments I changed my mind. :)

how is talbots sizing? I’m always told they have good classic piecese, but am never sure on sizing (and haven’t made it to a store for try ons).
Rachel
Everything runs true to size for me. It’s my go-to store, in part, because I know that, if I order my size, it is perfect 80%+ of the time. Occasionally, you get something cut a little big or small, but most of their stuff is very consistent.
carmen
I like it! Does anybody know how Talbots sizing runs? I’ve never gotten anything there before. I’m thin, but too tall for petite sizing. Size 00 in regular sizing at Ann Taylor is just a bit loose on me. Does Talbots run large? Their smallest size is 2.
Erin M.
In my experience, their size charts are entirely accurate. So measure yourself and see if their size 2 will fit you.
Lawgirl
Hmm. I think the black may look a little classier. I can take plum/purple blazer in solids, but the print might be a little too busy. I might swing by Talbot’s and take a look-see….

Clearly I’m the odd one out. I’m 27 and I really love it. I think it would look nice with black trousers, grey sheath dress, a grey skirt — really a bunch of things.
MelD
No, you’re not. It may be because I’m from FL, but I would wear this and have worn jackets like this in the past to liven up an otherwise dreary outfit.
Erin M.
Me too!
KLo
I’m 27 and I like it (I think it would be better in a brighter color), but I also wear *some* patterned jackets from Coldwater Creek.

About the size questions: Talbot’s tops tend to run big and be on the boxy side, and a little short for tucking in. I have the best luck with their jackets that are meant to fit away from the body (unlike this one, which would require several inches cut out of the natural waist in order to flatter an hourglass).
Interestingly they have some younger-fitting pants and skirts (check out the machine wash pairs!) but their tops have yet to catch up to a leaner silhouette.
JC
I think it’s so cute and lady-like that just bought one in black and white. (I’m 34, am I exhibiting old lady tastes?)
In my limited experience with Talbot jackets, I think they run large.
Lobbyist
I think Talbots runs a bit large, but like the other major brands. I am a 6 in Ann Taylor, Talbots, JJill, etc. They tend to be not so tightly cut so are a bit boxier. If you are a 0, then good for you but I doubt you could wear a talbots 2.
divaliscious11
Talbots can be a bit “old” but I often find pieces there (could never do a wardrobe) that I pair with something edge-y. Just yesterday I wore a tan Boucle knit dress that I got from Talbot’s probably 6 years ago, with some fab chocalate brown suede Stuart Weitzman knee high boots. The dress with plain pumps is boring and old, but with a fashionable boot, it works. I have also been known to group 2-3 broaches at the waist on this dress to liven it up etc…
It’s always worth a look see…
Amy
It’s cute. I don’t love it. As far as the “drapes” thing goes, there’s a jacquard jacket in the Talbots sale that I looked at and immediately thought, “Man, I would totally look like a couch in that.” :)

I have cute things from Talbots that I don’t think look too old. But this jacket does look old to me. It does look too busy. For a patterned top, I prefer the print sweater that was shown some time back.

I live by Talbots.. no Ann Taylor in my town… other than Talbots.. I have a Macys and a Dillards. I love their website too… I shop on line from my desk more than in the store but it’s nice to have the option to return to the store if I order something not quite right. Their sizing is very consistent …. a size 10 from 3 years ago is the same size 10 today. Thanks to that..I can count on things fitting with every shipment. Because of that… I have even bought Talbots items ebay – new that haven’t been worn.
As for as this item… I pass.. but they are having a good sale and I ordered 3 other items instead.
Lola
Am I the only one that doesn’t like any of these patterned jackets and cardigans? I think they’re too trendy – not classic enough to invest in.
AIMS
That’s why it’s $36.
Though I wouldn’t get it even if it was $3. Just not a fan.
MLB
But at $36, it doesn’t really have to be an investment piece, does it?
Still, I’m generally opposed — I don’t think it looks either professional or fun.

LOVING THIS!
