I own a purple suede pair from Target that is almost like these, but much shorter wedge heel. Very very comfortable. Not sure if they were the ones folks talked about but being shorter was a plus for me.
They’re called “Marlis” and they come in other great colors: http://tinyurl.com/2wqknh3
I am not sure if the ones I tried on were these, but — upon hearing everyone’s raves here — I tried a pair of suade wedges in target (very similar) & found them to be very, very, very uncomfortable. Maybe for someone with very narrow feet, they could have worked. As is, they pinched terribly around the edges & also had no support whatsoever.
Just an FYI.
AIMS – I think there’s at least two kinds of these shoes at Target and they look really similar. I had the same experience as you the first time I tried them. Then after hearing so many raves about them I tried “them” another time and they were very comfortable esp after 1-2 wears. I have wide feet too, and they stretched nicely.
Hmm…. That’s very interesting (and confusing on Target’s part).
I will try to see if I can locate a pair next time I find myself near a Target. Honestly, the ones I tried were so horribly uncomfortable that I am reluctant to order online. But I will def. keep an open mind next time I am within reach of their shoe department. Thanks for the info :)
I noted the same confusion when I ordered online – perhaps the other one is not Merona? In any case, the exact shoe featured today (purple) in my usual size (7.5) is my fave fall shoe!
I own these shoes and once you break them in they are great– I have small, wide feet and Target actually makes some great heels for size 5 people like myself!
I just love these shoes. Have bought two pair-the first ones ended up being a 1/2 size too big after they stretched, so sized down on teh second pair. They are reasonably comfortable and look great with so much.
Thread jack! Have we ever had a post on what to say during an interview when you’re switching jobs? I had already decided to leave my former job and then was sort of scooted out the door–so, in some ways, it was mutual. In other ways, it wasn’t. I just don’t know what to say when my potential employers inevitably ask why I left the prior job. It was in a niche practice area, and my boss is very well known, so I can’t blame it on personality (although that really was the problem, at least from my perspective). I also was getting enough responsibility, and it was at a big firm (and I plan on applying to other big firms), so I can’t really say that it was due to the type of work (since all big firms pretty much do the same thing). For context, I was already planning on leaving to take a one-year, prestigious fellowship, so I think that is what really spurred our “mutual” agreement. In other words, I don’t think they would have asked me to leave otherwise. Any ideas?
Can you clarify your fellowship? Why can’t you just say that you left to take a fellowship that you viewed as an extraordinary opportunity? My understanding of law firm “scooting” is that they often don’t technically lay you off, specifically to make you more employable to others (and so that you don’t have to say you were laid off). For example, I know someone who was essentially told she was no longer welcome at her existing firm but was given about 6 months (and possibly more, if it had been necessary) to find another job.
It’s actually a clerkship (trying to remain anonymous, but oh well!). Yes, the scooting arrangement is precisely what happened here. I’m just wondering about the other end of my clerkship, when I’m looking for a job and they ask why I didn’t go back to my old firm. I’ll be in the same city, the same practice area, applying to the same types of firms.
They might well not ask.
You could also go vague with “was ready for a change”.
Anon, I do not think that there is anything wrong with being honest. I believe that honest, yet polished, answers are the way to go. For example, say something like, you decided to move on to another firm because “The group of people that [you] work with are extremely important to [you]. [You] researched [firm xyz] and heard rave reviews about the group of partners and associates, [including …so and so…if this is true of course]. Althoug [you] learned a lot from your previous firm, and those working there, [you] are ready to contribute your experience, collaborate, and learn from a new group of dynamic individuals, such as those at [firm xyz].”
Definitely – you left to take the clerkship that was an extraordinary opportunity. You won’t have to say more than that.
At my big firm when I was laid off, I was looking for work at the same time bc I was really slow (prob why they laid me off, I was the most senior/expensive of the jr associates) and told the interviewers that – there was no need for me to say more.
I bought these shoes in purple and gray from Target after reading about them. They hurt my feet and were horribly uncomfortable. I won’t be buying Target shoes again.
After hearing all the raves I bought a pair in black – but the squeak! Anyone else have this problem? I do like them, but I never wear them somewhere important.
“They” squeak.
any advice for squeeky shoes in general? what causes this? can a cobbler fix it? I have several pairs of pumps that i loved that i wore a lot that started squeeking one day out of nowhere, hate it!
sorry, squeaky! I knew that looked funny…
I like “squeeky” better- it seems more evocative of the actual sound of squeaking!
Mine squeak. I also have a problem with them slipping some. I’m going to solve the slipping problem by shoving some wool in the toe, which I think will help, but I haven’t found a squeaking solution yet. I actually have this problem with multiple pairs of shoes, and I have no idea why.
I have the black ones – mine squeak, too. They’re not very comfortable and run wide. Not worth the $30. I’ve stopped wearing them.
They shoes look so nice – I would go for a black, brown, gray, or green. I want to check them out and try them on. I love a wedge, especially with pants.
I have these in taupe and black. Love them.
For $30 those look incredible. If they fit.
I’m one of the early ravers, based on my first wearing or so — but am disappointed to report that they stretch out a lot, and now I can’t keep them on my feet. :(
Target shoes can be SO UNEVEN in quality and comfort. My limited experience with some suede booties was awful, horrendous. Literally was on my way to Goodwill when a friend snatched them from my hands :-) OTH, had some really good luck with some others… These rocked! http://bit.ly/ijp7Zj
Speaking of shoes: has there ever been a post or does anyone have any suggestions for work appropriate shoes (ie, heels) that won’t set off metal detectors? Getting tired of of having to take my shoes off every time I go into the courthouse!
Weirdly, only certain pairs of my heels set off the metal detectors. I think it’s just a trial and error thing to learn which pairs are fine.
I got a look at the x-ray image one day. Most heels of any appreciable height have a metal shank inside that sets off detectors. Occasionally I find lower heels can pass through the detector. Some detectors are set to be more sensitive, so a pair of shoes that doesn’t set off alarms in one place might set them off in another. Best advice I have, if you hate to take off your shoes, is to wear rubber soled flats through the detector and carry your heels in your totebag.
I bought these in black. The heel height is great, and they were comfortable in the store. However, after wearing them for a full day, my feet were killing me. the inside lining of the shoe is a slippery synthetic material. Regardless of whether I wear tights, my feet slide forward and my toes get scrunched. The leather is very stiff and not pliable. Sigh…
Tried these on at Target after reading all of the rave reviews here. I found them extremely uncomfortable and cheap looking.
I have these shoes is gray and love them. They are extremely comfortable for my narrow feet, and I have been wearing them both for work and on the weekend. I’m tempted to buy them in other colors!
Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance. I must say you’ve done a superb job with this. Also, the blog loads very fast for me on Firefox. Outstanding Blog!
