We'll be taking Monday off for the MLK holiday — we hope everyone else enjoys a three-day weekend as well!
The Saks “Consolidation Sale” is on, with tons of great pieces at great prices — in lots of lucky sizes. Take this blouse — we'd wear it with jeans on the weekend, but it could also be great on a more casual workday as well. Was $225, now $63 — lovely! Tory Burch Ruffled Plaid Blouse
So the new Miss America wants to be a lawyer… Not sure I know how to comment on that, but I wish her well. You never know with these beauty queens.
I went to college with a woman who was Miss Idaho (in the Miss USA and Miss America systems – she was also Miss Teen Idaho) and who went on to become a two-time Supreme Court clerk. She was also incredibly nice, funny, and self-deprecating, and thus un-hateable, despite being gorgeous and crazy smart.
Wow! Gives me a whole new impression about pageant women. Good to know.
this one’s a bit nuts education wise (she’s going to a non-accredited christian college) so we’ll see how far that goes! Not to say Christians aren’t good lawyers, but non-accredited Christian colleges are not the place to start your law career.
I judged a debate contest once where students from Patrick Henry were competing. They were amazing – far above the rest of the teams. I wouldn’t underestimate these schools; the classical curriculum they follow is far more rigorous than what’s offered at most mainstream colleges today.
“on-accredited Christian colleges are not the place to start your law career”
Really? That’s where I started my career… I had no problem getting into (or keeping up at) a top-25 law school. One of the other associates at my firm hailed from Liberty, and he’s doing quite well. I’d love to see these school wise up and realize that regional accreditation is necessary in today’s world, but a lot of excellent law schools do recognize them as excellent academic institutions and overlook the accreditation hangup. One of my undergrad debate teammates just made law review at Yale.
That being said, it may present complications to political aspirations. Who knows though, given Sarah Palin’s rise…
“Rise” with quote marks…I’d characterize it more as self-produced fodder for media. An actual political rise is something I would more associate with someone like Rep. Giffords.
In the Bush years, being a Liberty University grad was actually a pretty substantial advantage with regard to being hired in the executive branch.
I’m sure it’s possible. I just have my doubts, especially with the current political climate.
