We all know I've been a huge fan of the Barefoot Dreams cardigans for years now — I have three of my own, and I've gifted them to my mother, mother-in-law, and aunt. Still, my preferred style has always been the circle cardigan, in large part because I like the pockets and the drapey feel, plus I'm not into hoods like a lot of their other cardigans have.
So color me excited that there's a brand new slouchy cool option for Barefoot Dreams. I think this shape looks like it will work perfectly with the heavy, cozy, nubby fabric (seriously, if you've never touched one in the store, they are sooooo soft), and I like the updated style.
The rib cardigan is available in gray, a beigey pink (“misty rose”), and a purplish taupe (“driftwood”) for $188 at Nordstrom.
(And, uh, it'll make a great gift for other people too! OOOH — there are lots of Barefoot Dreams options for men now also!)

I love the barefoot dreams cardigan – I’ve had exactly one in my life and finally got rid of it because the sleeves were always too tight and short – but I’m perfectly happy with my Max and Mia dupes from Costco. Thanks again to all who recommended them.
(PSA I am not a Costco member and was able to order from their website no problem)

So much new Barefoot Dreams stuff!
I have a Barefoot Dreams Nordic sweater and it’s wonderful. Looks like a real sweater on Zoom, feels like the cardigan.
Anonymous
I find this so exotic. I’m from Scandinava, and wear the real thing, and the Nordic sweaters are – in terms of looks and inspiration – outerwear! (For freezing temps.) They are tradtionally very warm, stiff, itchy, thick and not at all WFH video friendly! But the looks are great, and even here there are less hot and less stiff versions in soft alpaca etc., but I 100 &% love the idea of people on the other side of the world using these for casual WFH!

What’s everyone using leftover FSA money for this year?
anon a mouse
Stocking up on the OTC stuff that usually isn’t reimbursable but is this year due to CARES Act — expensive cold meds, band-aids, antibiotic ointment, feminine products, etc.
Anon
Feminine products is actually a permanent change! You’ll be able to use HSA and FSA dollars on feminine care products from now on.
And for the whole universe that you can spend FSA money on, check out fsastore dot com. Everything they sell – everything – is FSA eligible.
Anonie
Wow thanks for the heads up! This is great information and I honestly didn’t realize.
Tea/Coffee
Yup, this is my go-to for the years when we are weirdly healthy (or, just minimizing appts like this year).
I got some thinx, which i have been wanting to try, and some new gel ice packs for the kids.
Anon
Actually all the OTC stuff is a permanent change. Just double checked this since you made me doubt myself! This includes painkillers, allergy medication, etc. Bandaids and first aid kits were actually always eligible. The things you know when you are extremely accident prone and have a bunch of weird health issues…
anon
These cardigans must be total magic because good gravy, they are absurdly expensive for house clothes.
Anon
I don’t know how different the Costco one is from the real thing, but my Costco one is nice, but not the over-the-moon magic that people here describe. I’m happy I paid $25 or whatever for it, but I wouldn’t pay $188. But yes, I have worn it almost every day around the house this fall.
Anonymous
188 for basic knit no skills no shape POLYESTER is crazy, crazy overprized.
For a proper fabric, sure. But POLY. Nope, nope, nope.
In a real shape, with real fabric, sure.

What do you guys think of food cravings? Just habit or a sign of a nutritional need?
My husband and I try to eat mostly plant based but are ok with fish and poultry as meat sources. This is more for environmental than ethical reasons.
But sometimes after a steady diet of this I just want a steak. Or a juicy burger. Or a bolognese sauce, and no, absolutely not with ground turkey. I want some red meat.
I’ve been calling it an iron craving, but no amount of spinach is going to scratch that itch, sorry Popeye. My husband says it’s habit that makes me crave it.
What do you think?
Vicky Austin
I’m on your side. I think a nutritional need craving would be non-specific, as yours is: a burger OR a steak OR a bolognese made with beef. That’s not you craving the specific experience of one of those things and I think that allows for the possibility that it is, in fact, the iron you’re craving, or possibly something else that comes with eating red meat.
Anonymous
Maybe it’s B vitamins
Anon
I was surprised to learn that women need a lot more iron than men! So my husband has been getting a reasonable amount of iron on our lockdown home cooking diet, but because of the inadvertent shifts in our diet, I haven’t been getting close to enough. Oops.
Anon
It could definitely be an iron craving because spinach has next to no iron:
https://www.nutritics.com/p/news_Why-Most-Iron-In-Spinach-Is-Useless#:~:text=Compared%20to%20its%20leafy%20friends,not%20%E2%80%9Chigh%20in%E2%80%9D%20iron.
Anon
That’s so funny. I always assumed my mom was right about spinach being rich in iron!
I know it’s good for other things though, mainly for me as an easy way to sneak veggies into things. But I do love a palak paneer!
anonshmanon
For some time, the tabulated iron content of spinach contained a digit error, so it was assumed to ten times it’s actual value. That’s where Popeye and the general myth comes from.
Anon
Nutritional need. I’m a pretty healthy eater and once had a ravenous craving for potato chips and coke. I was on a medication that made my blood pressure dangerously low (unknown to me at the time) and sale and caffeine both raise blood pressure. When I found out about the medication issue a couple days later I thought, OMG, that explains the potato chips and coke I had!
Anon
If you’re concerned that you’re anemic it’s pretty easy to figure out via a blood test! Then you’ll have proof. But fwiw, we crave foods all the time with no nutritional value. I’m not eating chocolate because I’m deficient in anything. Maybe red meat is just delicious? who knows.
Anon
My doctor is dismissive enough already. If I went to her and asked for a blood test because I crave a burger sometimes she would write me off even further.
Anon
Yikes, maybe it’s time for a new doctor because that’s a super common ask though not for that reason. I’ve always had them do one at physicals.
pugsnbourbon
Whoa yeah, get a new doc – I know it’s easier said than done though! Women can be more prone to anemia (periods, pregnancy, etc) and hematocrit/hemoglobin should be part of a standard blood panel.
Alternatively, you could try donating blood and see what your reading is.
Anon
Oh I have been trying to find a new PCP. None of the highly rated ones in my area are taking new patients
No Face
When I had a doctor who did not value my time or take me seriously, I switched to a doctor who was basically fresh out of medical school who was part of a large practice/clinic. It’s been great!
Anon
Doing some labs to check iron, B12, and vitamin D is a pretty standard check up for someone on a mostly plant based diet. I know that doctors can be absurdly dismissive, but you’ll be happy you switched doctors if you ever have something more serious that you need checked. Even a NP or PA can run these kinds of labs where I live.
Anon
i have no idea, but when i was pregnant i went through a period of time when i oddly craved burgers, which was odd for me bc i’m not a huge red meat eater and i was so nauseous for my entire pregnancy anything other than saltines rarely sounded good…turned out at my next appointment my bloodwork came back showing I was anemic
Anon
It’s usually nutritional for me. I make a free cronometer account and log my diet for a week or so, and it’s usually glaringly obvious what I’ve been skimping on.
Anon
I generally eat pretty healthy so my meat sources are usually chicken or fish (and a fair amount of vegetarian meals). I really like red meat but for a combination of reasons I rarely eat it. I go through periods where all I want to eat is a cheesesteak or a burger. When I get like that, I always give into the craving. While I’ll definitely have periods where I really want xyz food, I don’t crave it the way I crave burgers so I think it is nutritional.
Anecdotally, I was never iron deficient before; however I’ve been turned down from giving blood three times this for my iron levels, so clearly there’s something behind this.
Now that I’m thinking about iron, I have noticed that I’ve been very sleepy lately. Maybe I need to order a cheesesteak tonight just in case it’s due to iron levels.
Anon
Just for health reasons! Order the cheesesteak!
Anon
I’m intrigued by the idea that it’s nutritional need. I have never eaten red meat before, so I obviously can’t and don’t crave it.
Anon
Sometimes people crave weird things. Tomato cravings and ice (like, chewing on ice) are associated with anemia, even though they definitely don’t help with anemia. There are even stranger forms of pica that less common deficiencies can cause.
Anonymous
I used to eat really well. And I’ve always been a regular blood donor, so I have always known my cholesterol every 8 weeks. Once I gave blood and craved a baloney sandwich with mayo (two things that I really never eat but sometimes they call to you) and I assumed it was my cholesterol was particularly low after donating. [I rarely kept meat in the house then b/c we’d lose power so often I didn’t want to spoil anything pricey in the fridge. My iron then was mainly from bean burritos and oatmeal and snacking on cereal.]
Anonymous
Iron (or PROTEIN, sorry-not-sorry-for the-caps) craving for sure!
Remember to get some vitamin C with your iron – if you miss the C, you don’t get the benefit!
Do red beets instead of spinach, if you want non-red-meat-iron. But add the C.

What’s the best addition (under $250) you’ve added to your home gym? (We only have adjustable weights up to 55 lbs, Swiss ball, a few KBs…)
anne-on
A TRX system. I have terrible knees and the ability to use it to do assisted squats/lunges is great, plus there are SO many great body weight exercises you can do with it.
Anonymous
(Not the OP)
Interesting. Where did you mount it? Does the door mount work well? I am intrigued but unsure where I could use it at my house.
Anon
Different poster, but I have one and the door mount has worked just fine for me (I’m heavier – 220ish). I even use it on a hollow interior door even though the instructions say only to use on a solid door. I wedge it in the corner of the door nearest to the hinges and go outward in the opposite direction that the door opens (so the door doesn’t pop open and I go flying while using it).
HangryJo
I drilled a heavyweight hook into the beam in the ceiling in the middle of the gym for mine.
Anonymous
So envious of your adjustable weights. I keep stalking the power block page hoping they’ll come back in stock and I don’t have to pay $600 for them somewhere else.
Anonymous
A good jump rope. I resist running and don’t have any machines, so the jump rope got me moving when working out at home.
I also found my adjustable kettlebells (up to 44#) to be great, but I have somewhat outgrown them now and have been acquiring heavier ones over the last few months.
I’d like a pull-up bar but I have nowhere I am comfortable putting it in my old house. And I want a balance bag/ball of some kind.
Total waste of money – medicine ball. Maybe it’s useful, but it’s still in the box.
Anonymous
I got a cheap rowing machine from Sunny fitness, but I would probably hold out for a better model next time. It’s definitely a great full-body workout, though.
HangryJo
Honestly, a TV. We got a cheap one that has Roku, wall mounted it, and use it almost every day to stream workouts. Free stuff on Youtube, Yoga with Adriene, BeachBody, it all works and it helps keep us motivated to stay active, especially on days when we’re at our desk for 8 to 10 hours straight. I guess YMMV if you’re not into streaming classes though.

I looked at different barefoot items on the Nordstrom site from the links, and just: no. The fabrics are awful. 75 nylon, 100 polyester, no, no, no. These are not high-end knits. I can fell my hair getting static, my sweat gettting stinky and excessive and my skin getting sqeaky and unhappy from just reading the descriptions.
anon
I don’t know how, but the fabric they use is completely different from my squeaky, static-y Target cardigans. It’s amazing lux and also washes well.
Seafinch
I totally agree. I bought one very impulsively (on sale for just over a hundred bucks Canadian so cheap !) and I absolutely love it and I never wear any other synthetics. I can’t explain it and am slightly embarrassed about it but I love it and want another one.
