This type of suit is an essential every business woman should have in their wardrobe. You can give it many different looks just changing the blouse and adding a scarf. This can be worn after 5 by adding some glitz with multiple long necklaces and some great high heels.
Does anyone know how the cut/sizing is on Elie Tahari suits vs. his Tahari line? I am not a fan of the fit of “Tahari” (sans Elie) blazers (at least on me, they end up looking very matronly). Is the full name line cut a bit better given that it’s more expensive, or is it comprable?
I have three Elie Tahari suits. The cut and quality of the Elie Tahari suits is exponentially better than Tahari (sans Elie). The cut is flattering but professional. Also the lining is super soft and silky as opposed to the stiff feel of Tahari suits.
Thanks! I’m going to see if I can locate this at the store to try on in person (still iffy about ordering a brand online that I have not worn before).
Elie Tahari is more fashionable. The fabric and cuts are generally awesome. I have several suits by Elie Tahari and they are my go-to suits for looking polished.
I’m actually a big fan of the Tahari suits, but I have never bought anything from Elie Tahari. Elie Tahari is way more expensive and usually suits are wool (as opposed to the Tahari polyester blend suits). The reason I like the Tahari suits is that they are relatively inexpensive and they usually have a “European” cut, at least on me — not boxy or matronly at all.
If you are interested in the Elie Tahari suits, I have usually seen some at Nordstrom Rack that are discounted.
This is fabulous! The suit, the blouse, the cut, the colors….I wish I were wearing it right now :) except the shoes–those are bad.
I can’t agree about the pants- the fit looks off and the rise looks oddly long. If a size zero model is getting those lines across the front, there’s no hope for those of us with Thighs.
Agree with Jules re: the weird lines across the thighs (and around the zipper!) that suggest too tight a fit.
In general, though, I’d actually welcome suit pants with a higher rise. I hate this “city fit” stuff (ahem, J Crew and others!) where the pants are so low-slung that you can’t tuck anything in. It’s a suit! Is it so much to ask that I be able to tuck in my blouse? And not give coworkers a peep show if I happen to bend?
Rant over. This suit looks lovely other than the aforementioned lines. I’d have to see it on.
Thank goodness I am not the only one. I have a very long torso and am hating this trend of lower rise professional pants. My shirts just aren’t long enough for them to stay tucked in or fully cover my skin when I sit down.
This suit looks nice, but you’d definitely need to have very slim thighs to pull it off. This model is having issues, so I hate to think how they’d look on regular people.
me too! if anyone has found a designer whose proportions and lines flatter those of us with long torsos, please share! I am so tired of trying on dresses only to have the “waist” hit the middle of my ribcage.
The only brand that I find that works well for my figure overall is Antonio Melani at Dillard’s. The Antonio pant has a fairly high rise and the dresses don’t seem to have the problem of being just way too short all over.
Me too! I have a long torso and high waist, and low-rise pants hit me six inches or so below my natural waist. It makes for a muffin top, and worse from the rear view. Horrible look for the office.
I worry about this constantly!
Don’t even get me started on the muffin top. The worst thing is that people often think it’s because you’re wearing pants that don’t fit. If I choose a size up, it just rides even lower on the waist and makes the problem look worse because everything looks so saggy.
I have several Tahari suits and they are all in different sizes…some petites, some regular, and ranging from sizes 2-6. They are so unpredictable and always need tailoring (at least for me), but they still can’t be beat for price and quality!
So true, mini skirts are just not office appropriate – no matter how much Ally McBeal used to wear them. What is appropriate if you’re not sure or work in a casual environment? http://www.insideoutstyleblog.com/2010/01/how-to-create-personal-power-in.html
Neiman Marcus has a bunch of Tahari on sale — you have to search in the sale section — including that purple dress with jacket (but only in an 8) that was featured a while back.
Gray is a really under-rated, under-used suit color. Like black, it goes with just about anything, but unlike black, it is less common in the working world.
I know, right?! I reach for my gray wool slacks more than any other pair of pants. They fit well, go with anything, can get dressed up or down, I can punch them up with color or fun shoes. I love grey! I’m fair skinned and light haired, and I find grey a lot more soft and less severe, while still being totally neutral.
To those who share my issue re: low-riding suit pants, the only suit pants I currently own are Banana Republic’s Jackson Fit.
I’m not much of a BR fan, to be quite honest. And I generally do not find their pants flattering. But I’ve found that particular fit to have a rise that’s just high enought not to preclude me from tucking something in. If I find anything in the higher-quality range, believe me, you ladies on Corporette will be the first to know!!
I’m not much of a Elie Tahari fan, personally. Maybe once I get back to the gym regularly I will be. But their whole “only have sizes up to 12” and then their pants cut small in the thigh don’t really work for me. I also like my stuff lined, and I haven’t seen any of their stuff lined…
Love this, and I especially love it with the red blouse. It’s a perfect balance of pretty and professional.
Does anyone have thoughts on the sizing and fit of Elie Tahari suits vs. Theory? I’ve been a theory devotee for quite a long time, but I’ve recently started to tire of the limited color palate and the virtually identical cuts season after season. I usually wear a 6 in theory, and am about 5’4.
I’m too curvy to wear theory, which seems to be cut for more straight up and down women. On me, Elie Tahari fits my hips and thighs.
I second the request for sizing help…similar to jcrew or banana?
I don’t like where the bottom of the jacket hits the hip – with these pants. To me it is awkward, unless the wearer has the most perfect body.
You made some decent points there. I looked on the internet for the topic and found most individuals will approve with your blog.
