Tuesday’s TPS Report: Muse Seam Detail Ponte Knit Dress
Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
We're loving this '60s-inspired dress. The high collar, the three-quarter-length sleeves, the A-line skirt, and the flattering seaming — it's a great dress for the office. Green can be a tough color to wear, though — we'd probably try to warm it up a bit with a gold brooch and earrings, and dark brown pumps. It's $144 at Nordstrom.com (available in sizes 2-16). Love it!
That dress would be perfect for my office! But, how could I style it for a meeting with, say, a metropolitan city mayor, state superintendent, DA? Seems inappropriate for such a meeting, but would be perfectly professional for my cultural division. Any ideas? My first instinct is to say I would have to skip the dress and wear a dark suit with a green silk top in that great bright color, but maybe I am being too conservative and underestimating the leeway in American business etiquette.
This dress is beautiful and flattering. Love it!
Honestly, I think this dress is too short for the office – at least too short for my office. And if you’re on the taller side, like I am, it’s DEFINITELY too short.
That is pretty..not sure about the green, but I like the structure of the dress…
It’s a rayon/poly/spandex blend!!! Are you serious???!
Nice looking dress but I don’t see how any professional woman could be seen in such a cheap fabric.
Ruth – just keep a suit in your office that you change into if such a meeting comes up, or a blazer that you could pull over the dress and button??
The cut looks flattering but I second the concern re the fabric. Assuming it falls well though – great find! The gold brooch/brown pumps suggestion is helpful, the green is a lot to deal with.
This dress is cute, but the neckline looks like it is a bit too wide to work under a blazer. I love the green, but feel like a blazer to tone it down a bit might be helpful in some situations.
As for the fabric blend, I have a few poly/spandex blend dresses that hang quite well without looking cheap. Not everyone can afford silk jersey and this is a good alternative.
It’s true that not everyone can afford silk jersey, but this dress is $144. That price buys DVF on sale.
This dress would be fabulous with black tights and blacks shoes. Maybe even a simple, thin neckless. I love it! And, I love the green!
fyi – nordstrom just did a ridiculous amount of markdowns online, including a lot of items that i am virtually certain were anniversary sale items. a quick browse through “new savings” revealed semantiks suits, maybe a dozen potentially w0rk-appropriate dresses, work tops including a fabulous dvf silk blouse etc. lots of handbags and shoes in quality brands also just went down.
a fine, fine use of a lunch break, i’d say.
A lot of rayon blends are very nice–a lot of designer stuff is rayon blends, actually.
As far as the green goes–I’d steer clear if you are a red-head or otherwise obviously Irish–too costume-y then. A scarf draped under the neckline? A brooch is really what’s called for. Black tights? Donna Karan is showing that look, and she was certainly the power designer for conservative dressing in the 80s if you couldn’t afford Armani.
I agree that it’s too short for a tall person like me. More a petites length for the office.
Newassociate- thanks for the tip re: Nordstroms. I had been eyeing a pair of shoes for some time, and was able to get them on sale before my size sold out.
Am I the only that thinks this looks a little flight attendant-ish?
No, you are not.
I thought I was the only one against this dress. The stand up collar doesn’t look comfortable at all.
This looks like an ice-skating costume.
Yes, short flared skirt reads ice skating outfit for sure; I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing this.
Just FYI–the blue calvin klein dress that we lamented the unavailability of a few weeks ago is now on sale at nordies for $70. Big fun!
Starting to look like this is about the best quality fabric we can expect at $150. Feh.
