Love the simplicity. Wish I wasn’t blessed with such a bountiful lower half.

It’s the Half Yearly sale – a clearance sale – far different from Anniversary Sale, which is new Fall merchandise in Summer on sale for a limited time.

I have this skirt with jacket in two colors (gray and a taupe/black small plaid) and it is awesome! The fabric is very thin though, so it wrinkles easily.
LPC
This is the kind of skirt that can live in your closet and take care of you. Comfort you on days when you need to be at the top of your game.
jcb
Absolutely. I love my grey skirts like nothing else in my work closet.

I have this in black and have seen other women in my office wearing this skirt as well. It really needs either tights/stockings or a slip underneath to avoid visible panty lines (with any style of underwear) because of the thin material. May just take my to the tailor to have it lined b/c it is a great skirt otherwise!
Cleo
I’ve never tried on anything from Theory, but it seems like I keep seeing comments that the pants aren’t lined, and now this thin material/wrinkling issue. It sounds to me like the quality is not that great for the price. Yet I hear people rave about Theory – what am I missing here? Is it the cut of the clothes that makes up for the quality details? I’m curious.

I think a lot of it has to do with personal preference. I prefer lined pants and skirts so I’m not a huge fan of Theory (although I like the styles). I also get cold in my office and the thinner materials don’t keep me nearly warm enough. However, I have friends whose suits are predominantly Theory because they hate lined pants/skirts or heavyweight suit fabrics. Like most offerings on this site, personal preference is a big factor in how people view this brand.
AIMS
It’s also the fit! Unlike many other suit options, their stuff has a very youthful but still classic feel (as in I don’t feel like the most boring person ever when going to work), and the suits also fit much better (at least for me) than anything else I have tried on.
But really it is a matter of what flatters you most and what you like and don’t.

I know it’s November, but I’m loving on the peep toes they have pictured with this.

This is off topic, but has anyone tried the Not Your Daughter’s Jeans line of jeans? They sell them at Nordstroms. They have a tummy tuck panel in front. I’m concerned that they are so stretchy that they will be misshapen very quickly. These are for “jean days” at work.
AIMS
Haven’t tried them on, but they seem a bit unstrcutured for the office. That said, they probably do offer more coverage than the more youthful styles.
If you are looking for work jeans, try one of the darker washes from BR. They even come in trouser styles, I think.
michelle
I tried them on and did not like them; I found them to be high-waisted and not particularly effective at making my size 10 tummy look like a size 6. But seriously, I found the tummy control panel created a round look that was less attractive than normal jeans are.
Sharon
I have 2 pairs of the NYDJ jeans from Nordstrom. I find them very flattering to my early forties body, especially because I have a long torso and short legs and anything low-rise is a problem. In a dark wash, I think they look great and I’ve gotten tons of use out of them. I do find that they have stretched out a bit (I”ve had mine for 2 years) and I am considering getting a new pair or 2, but they’ve been an excellent investment for me and I would recommend them for those of us who just can’t hack the low-rise of True Religion or other designer brands.

Also, Theory tends to be designed for those who are built a little more straight up and down than with hips.
anon
My experience with Theory is that the waist size is HUGE in comparison to the fit through the hips/thighs. This was a few years ago and with Theory pants rather than skirts. Has anyone else with more recent experience with the brand noticed this?
Anna
I agree. I was trying on Theory pants recently and had to go up two sizes in to get them to fit in the thigh, and the waist and rear end were enormous. Absolutely the wrong cut for me and I’m a pretty easy fit in other braands.
michelle
I like Theory suits a lot (second to Tahari) and find both tend to work well with my body type, which is a not particularly small waist but slim thighs and butt. The fit is very flattering and makes me look long and lean. I have friends the same size as me who carry more weight at the hip and thigh who can’t wear those brands at all.
KH
Per my (tiny) sister, Theory is cut for a Japanese frame. I don’t know if that explains the waist-to-hip ratio, but it explains why I (a size 8 in AT or Jones New York) cannot wear Theory. Period.

There hasn’t been much of a change, from what I’ve seen. I tried on a pair this summer and the dreaded waist gap was so big you could practically see down to my toes. It just seems like the sizing chart is way off since it indicates a more hourglass-friendly shape than I’ve seen.

oh how I love the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale! I’m headed there this weekend.

I just went to Nordstrom today and bought this in black. I really liked it, but now that I see it on the model I’m not so sure. Thoughts?

Not a fan of this on the model. But if you have a smaller frame, it might be cute. I think, in general, this cut of shirt’s looks best on someone petite and relatively narrow.
