Tuesday’s TPS Report: CLOTHES (real) Plaid Print Cardigan

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Today, we're liking this plaid cardigan from Saks. We love the graphic, black and white look — it seems both precise and hip. We'd wear it over a colored sheath dress, and accessorize with contrasting colors — or perhaps wear it with black pants and channel our inner French stylist by wrapping a boldly patterned scarf around our neck. The cardigan itself is $208 (there is a matching shell ; if you want to go for the whole look and get the matching shell that's $148; both are available in sizes S-XL. Hmmm, I don’t think I like this, but I need to see it in person. The print is a bit too busy for my taste.
Wouldn’t boobs make the pattern look wonky?
Oh hell yes! As much as I like the patten, there is not way on God’s green earth I could wear this. Boobs would definitely make it look very awkward.
wouldn’t you need to wear something underneath it? Button down shirt? cami? i’m loving this anna sui cardigan (scroll down).

I am loving this W2WW website for work-appropriate clothes! Great classy, timeless pieces.
And I do like this cardigan above.
I love the sweater, would wear it with a black skirt to make a suit. Would do very little in the way of accessories. But for many color palettes, a black and white outfit is far from flattering.
I could do the shell, but not the cardigan. Too too. On the flipside, I think I’m beginning to get Corporette’s fashion-sense, little by little. I think it’s high fashion, modified for the workplace :)
No offense (I love checking this site every day), and with all due respect, but “high fashion” this ain’t.
Agree with above, the stuff on this site is pretty run-of-the-mill, mainstream office-wear fashion (but I still love the site).
Ok, agreed. Maybe this cardiga isn’t Vogue, but F21! Either way, it’s loud and could induce seizures 8-)
It’s a basic black and white pattern; might not be your thing (it isn’t mine either), but seizures? Really? No need to get melodramatic.
8-)
I love and connect with this site’s philosophy, but agree that the recommended clothes are pretty standard and low-risk… perhaps on purpose. High style this isn’t; as for high fashion, office wear could never, ever aspire to that.
I adore this cardigan!
I’d wear it with a blouse with the sleeves flipped up over the cuff with the cardi slightly unbuttoned at the top and bottom.
I’d wear it with a shell underneath buttoned or unbuttoned.
I’d wear it with a skirt, with pants (like Anne Vohl) to make a suit or with jeans on the weekend! … I just can’t afford it (yet) …
Right — it could be a very fun, funky business casual look (though NOT with the matching shell, I’d go blind) — which is why I don’t get how this site jumps around from recommending some of the more high-impact, “statement” clothing pieces that make someone stand out, to advice such as “well, you wouldn’t want to have a Tiffany card case, too showy and husband-hunty.” On one hand it’s “be adventuresome and creative!” and on the other hand it’s “stray from Molloy’s Dress for Success and boy won’t you be sorry.” I don’t get a site that says that this look is good but peep toes are questionable. I’m just having a hard time getting a bead on C’s fashion sense.
I like how C jumps around a little – for most of us, I’m guessing, we have days where we need to look more buttoned-up / classic / conservative than others.
It has been discussed at length how you have to know your environment w/r/t peep-toes – this sweater is bold, but it’s not going to expressly violate anyone’s office dress code.
Nor is it likely to make you look high-maintenance/prissy, which is what I think a Tiffany blue anything is more likely to induce as opposed to husband-hunting vibes. I think the point was the specific color, rather than a bold card case – the same case in a nice orange or green or even a different blue would have the same statement, but without the connotations.
I’ve been wondering for a while if C is actually a compilation of a few different people. Maybe that’s the multiple personality advice we’re picking up on. Another reason may be that C is simply trying to offer advice from every angle because of the variety of site visitors.
I do agree this cardigan is not “high fashion,” but a much less expensive knockoff (Target does them well) may do well when used to “brighten” up a monochromatic outfit.
I think it’s difficult for a site that caters to all sorts of professional women to have one consistent focus. The site is designed to help women be fashionable at work, no matter what the limitations of the workplace are. Many items on this site bore me to tears because I live in a more fashion-forward area, but others in conservative areas need options just like I do.
I’m not particularly a cardigan girl, but I can see myself wearing this with a simple black sheath dress with a slim white belt over it. I’m wondering if it could work with a wide, brightly colored belt, but can’t really tell.
Like it, but too expensive – I keep my sweaters under $100 and under $150 for cashmere.
So, do people want Corporette to have a specific, consistent focus in tps selections? Or, do people want some variety so as to hit an array of age ranges, size ranges, corporate environments, clothing “budgets” (does that really exist)?
Again I have to say…you can please all the people all of the time…
The variety is great — I know I myself have needs up and down the spectrum, depending on clients, situation, impression I want to make, etc. However, I can see someone with a consistent visual aesthetic picking out outfits for a corporate boardroom and casual Friday, and I could see the same aesthetic in their choices, even though one choice might involve a pencil skirt and conservative pumps and the other choice a statement necklace and really cool shoes. I guess what I’m saying is that I do read other personal blogs where I have a sense of the person’s style (whether or not it matches mine). I don’t have that with Corporette yet. Maybe it’s just me.
Ok, agreed. Maybe this cardiga isn’t Vogue, but F21! Either way, it’s loud and could induce seizures 8-)
