  1. The wedding expenses one was interesting to me. I used my iPod for music, got my flowers from Costco, and didn’t have a day of coordinator. Zero regrets.

    I do regret not springing for an unusual add-on that our historic venue had.

    1. No personal issues with your choices. But your venue took a liability risk when you used your iPod for music based on copyright laws.

      1. My venue’s eleven page contract didn’t have that prohibition, probably because it was a non-commercial event that wasn’t open to the public.

    2. The day of coordinator, a live band, a great photographer/videographer and professional flowers were my ‘musts’. I coordinate events for part of my job and knew I did NOT want to manage the day of chaos. We got married before Uber so we also paid for shuttle buses from the hotel to our venue to avoid drinking/driving. It was a significant expense but I was happy to do it to make sure everyone was safe.
      If I had a do-over I’d have stood up to my parents and had a micro-wedding like I really wanted. We didn’t go into debt but the whole big fat Italian NYC wedding is so not our vibe and was more stress than it was worth imho.

    3. Same here. Backyard wedding reception in a tent with my iPod, flowers from Costco (amazing), but I did bring in a coordinator. We had 25 people and it was perfection.

    4. Had several weddings due to the pandemic. Tiny first wedding. My partner’s dad, a friend to witness who brought grocery store roses for the bouquet. Due to COVID concerns, they declined to join us for home cooked steak and mail order Smith Island cake. After the pandemic, we had our religious ceremony wedding. Catered barbecue feast, then had a lot of friends and family participate. We may do a third wedding for everyone who missed the first two…(<;

  2. Going to NJ/NYC for Thanksgiving. Weather is all over the place. Do I need my longer puffer jacket or my shorter one? I’m originally from the north east but where i currently live it’s in the 70s today so I’ve forgotten how to dress

    1. we’re in the 40s and damp and blustery in Philly today but it is def not long puffer weather.

    2. I’d wear something waterproof and long and then layer underneath. It’s supposed to be in the 40s with rain/sleet/light snow for the holiday.

    3. It is cold in NYC today. I don’t know what you define as long or short, but I am wearing a knee length puffer and would be cold in a hip length jacket.

    4. Northern NJ here. While it is snowing right now, it’ll be dry by the time you arrive. Short puffer will be more than enough.

      1. But it is meant to get rainy again on Thanksgiving and the weekend after. High of 39 is a knee length puffer in my book! But I guess everyone has a different tolerance for cold.

  3. My family wants me to make my recipe for roasted carrots for Thanksgiving, but I am concerned about the E. coli outbreak. I know they have listed the affected brands but the list keeps expanding. I was going to skip carrots altogether. Is that an overreaction? (btw the recipe is to put curry powder on the carrots before roasting, very simple but my family loves it)

    1. I definitely wouldn’t buy any brand of carrots that shares the same source (Grimmway Farms) or any organic or generic carrots right now. The expiration dates for the dangerous products doesn’t seem to extend any later than November 12, but I’m okay with leaving a wide margin!
