Am I missing something? The Money Diaries article you linked from R29 is from 2016.
I was surprised at how much she was expensing to the office. I thought this year they eliminated the Business Meals tax deductibility… If it’s from a couple of years ago, okay. But wow. Even week-end meals!
I know! I would have never gotten away with expensing all those meals to my firm (unless they were really with summer associates, not other associates).
Agreed, I was shocked!
Nah- wife of an attorney here. I’m flabbergasted at how much his firm lets him expense random meals. “Stay late” meals he’ll bring home, “networking” meals he has with friends, etc. He charges everything he can to the firm and literally no one cares.
I do not think this is unuseal. I do the same thing, especialy if I come into the office and work on Saturday. And if I work from home on the weekend and bill more then 22 hours, which happens almost every weekend I am home, my takeout bills are all reimbursed. This way, the management is saying to us workers that we should be compensated in food for working at home on weekends. It is not that different from the weekday when the manageing partner goes around 3x a week and takes our orders for lunch and we do not even have to pay at all and get riembursed b/c he pays with his AMEX. The cleint’s do NOT get billed for that either b/c he is paying using his AMEX.
Why does everyone keep misinterpreting the WaPo FB article? The study did not find 1 in 4 Americans deleted their FB accounts. They deleted the app from their phones/tablets. And maybe I’m a little irrationally annoyed by this, but those are definitely not the same thing.
You’re right, and thank you for commenting. We’ll correct that.
My pedant’s heart thanks you.
The QZ article is exactly what I’ve been saying for years. Much of the female-focused career stuff annoys the life out of me because it comes from the viewpoint of “Obviously women face this barrier, so they must not be doing it right.”
If I have to hear more advice about asking for a raise…. My delicate flower emotions don’t get in the way. I ask for raises (and so far, have gotten them). Studies show women ask just as often as men, yet are granted raises less often. Perhaps the problem is antiquated thinking in the rest of the business world. I’ve even heard female HR staff defend paying women less (I couldn’t believe my ears). The problem isn’t women not knowing how to career, the problem is literally everyone else has to be on board with women’s equality in the workplace and change their behavior.
Exactly!
I agree with the Queen that Megan Markel should NOT be wearing pant suits. She is young, and look’s great in a dress, especially since she does NOT have a tuchus like her mom, yet. When she get’s older, mabye she can start doeing that, but does she really want to look like Hillary now? FOOEY! I say if you have a nice body, do NOT be afraid to show it. So what if other men will ooogle? I am sure Prince Harry has NOT stopped at least admireing women, knowing, of course that he should ONLEY be sleepeing with Megan, b/c she needs to have a baby ASAP!!!!
