I follow Tressie McMillan Cottom on Twitter and and interested to read the rest of her series and particularly about Kyrsten Sinema, who is about to ruin “I’ve paid my dues and can dress how I want” for the rest of us…
I know it’s irrational but I hate how she dresses. Every time I see her I think “this is why dress codes were invented.” I am sure the fact that she already drives me nuts doesn’t help.
NYT had an interesting article this week about the sartorial choices of NYC’s new mayor-elect, Eric Adams. His advice: “everything about you must say power.” It’s not bad advice!
I loved a comment here about work attire and empowerment and power so much I bookmarked it literally over a decade ago. https://corporette.com/are-patent-leather-shoes-an-option-for-a-conservative-office/#comment-160267
OMG YES!!
That is a great comment! And now I feel old because I remember reading it the first time around…
Wow! And especially wow-worthy? There were 116 comments ALL on the topic of the post!
That is the best.
That comment is a classic.
Huh, I kinda hope Amy retired. Her POV strikes me as really dated.
I hate the way Sinema dresses now. If you do a google image search for her name and “2012,” for example, you come up with photos of a woman who dresses to stand out but still powerfully: an array of bright, well-tailored sheath dresses and blazers. What’s up with her now?
Her clothes are so bad!
Ohhhh man, I hate it too! First of all, I think she just has objectively bad taste. Secondly, the attention is for the wrong reason.
+ 1. I loathe the way KS dresses. Nothing I have seen her in was appropriate to the occasion. I think it’s really disrespectful.
I had to Google. Sad comment on me.
Found this at the post which i normally dislike:
This week, the 45-year-old presided over the Senate in a denim vest, looking like Ponyboy’s long lost sister who made manager at JC Penney. It was neither sophisticated nor particularly stylish.
Note i have to Google ponyboy. I’m so disconnected.
wow – I haven’t thought about the Outsiders since middle school but the visual is amazing.
Total voice of dissent. I love that she wears what she wants and makes statements with clothing. It’s a wavy PR move. I don’t like most of her outfits or all of her political positions, but I love the originality.
