Frugal Friday’s TPS Report: Leopard Print Burnout Top

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Loft Leopard Burnout TopMaybe it’s me, but it seems like blue leopard accents are EVERYWHERE right now. I haven’t been able to get this lightweight, long-sleeved t-shirt out of my head since I first saw it a few weeks ago — it looks like a great layering tee for work or weekend. Obviously, you can wear it on top of a camisole for an easy, relaxed look.  That said, if you want to get creative with it, you can always try it as a base layer beneath a sheath dress — it looks like it would be a great match for a dark gray sheath dress, maybe with a similar neckline or a V. The tee is $24.50 full price, but is now $10, no code needed. The shirt is available in sizes XXS-XL (also available in grey/black), and is machine washable. Loft Leopard Burnout Top

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Atwood Blazer

Sunday Best Atwood Blazer | CorporetteOur daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I love the simple, structured look to this $125 (!) blazer at Aritzia (where they actually have a ton of nice looking blazers under $150). This one is fully lined, and made of an imported wool twill stretch fabric. Sadly, I can’t find a matching pant, skirt, or dress, so this blazer is purely a separate. Still: it’s a really nice looking one, and for $125 it’s hard to beat. Sunday Best Atwood Blazer

Here are two similar plus-size blazers.

Psst: The Nordstrom Clearance Sale just started, with savings up to 40% through November 11.  Stay tuned for a roundup later today, but at first glance (at the shoes, handbags, and accessories at least), it looks like there’s great inventory for Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, and Cole Haan shoes, as well as Kate Spade New York bags and jewelry, as well as bags from Michael Michael Kors, Rebecca Minkoff, and Tory Burch.

Coffee Break: Cherish Tote

Minkoff Cherish ToteAmazon is offering an additional 20% off a ton of bags and shoes, making some sale prices even lower. Take, for example, this tote from Rebecca Minkoff: it was $195, then marked to $136, but with code 20OFFVET it comes down to $109. Nice. It’s a great basic leather tote bag, and at 13″ x 18.5″ x 5.5″ it’s plenty big. Plus, it’s eligible for Prime. Hooray! Rebecca Minkoff Cherish Travel Tote

The Next Step: Bags

How to Upgrade Your Handbag Collection | CorporetteHow to Upgrade Your Handbag Collection | CorporetteWhat are the different “levels” for handbags — and how do you upgrade your handbag collection?  I’m curious to hear what readers say.  We’ve already talked about how to upgrade your professional wardrobe, as well as where to buy grown-up furniture… up next in our Next Step series: handbags. I’m pretty solidly in Bucket 3 at the moment.  I had a lot of fun wearing purses a few years ago, striving to wear a new one from my collection every week — but now I tend to reach for the same one whenever I head out, so I can see the sense in having a Bucket 5 bag if that’s the only one you wear. (Here’s what I usually carry in my bag.)  To me, the must-have details in any bag are a good leather or durable canvas (unless it’s a really fun color that I’ve never owned before — and a good sale), interior pockets, feet, a zipper on top — and I always appreciate an attached key fob and fun lining.  Ladies, what are your must-haves?  Which buckets of bags do you currently own — and have you been upgrading them as you move up the career ladder? Which brands am I forgetting in the different buckets?

Frugal Friday’s TPS Report: Tall Teal Notch Neck Dress

Dorothy Perkins Tall Teal Notch Neck Dress | CorporetteOur daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I’ve been seeing a lot of what I’ll call the “mullet” trend with dresses, pants, even blazers — it’s one color on the front and another color on the back.  I’m not a fan of this, in general… and yet, I love this teal notch neck dress from Dorothy Perkins, which incorporates that element (at least, the upper back of the dress is all black).  I like the dark teal color with tiny polka dots, I like that it’s machine washable, and I like that it’s 110 cm long (43″). I also like that it’s $44, full price. Happy Friday!  Dorothy Perkins Tall Teal Notch Neck Dress

The pictured dress comes in sizes 4-18, but here’s a few plus size options that are similar: here and here.
