    I love brightly colored socks, especially if they’re the type where each toe has its own niche – kind of like gloves, only for feet. They make me cheery in the morning when I put them on for some reason. :)

  3. Rebellion, yes! Crazy socks under boots, yes! If you can’t wear a plain black/gray/navy suit with boring shoes and a white shirt and work in SOME sort of there-really-is-a-human-being-in-here, then shame on you. Even if some days it has to be wild underwear.

  4. Love! My favorite way to cheer myself up on a dreary winter day is to wear bright stripey socks under my boots. I will definitely be picking up a few pairs of these.

  5. liz – I think you’re referring to the “toe socks” of the 1970s. With the 1980s being “new again” in fashion, the 70s are sure to follow in short order. If you’re one of the petite types, you might find some toe socks around now as I know moms love to put them on their kids. I also think the great winter undwear line via Hannah Anderson (?sp) may carry them as well. The buy featured for today reminds me of the hannah jammies. Happy weekend all.

  6. I think these are fun. I probably wouldn’t wear them, but one of my fellow litigation associates at large Midwestern law firm wore brightly patterned argyle socks with a skirt to work (on a Friday), and it looked quite snazzy on her.

  7. I’m glad I’m not the only one wearing wacky (but hidden) socks under my boots! FYI the Gap outlets are a great source for socks.

  8. I agree. On important days, I wear black trouser socks with an Irish flag near the top underneath my black suit. The suit pants are long enough that it doesn’t peak out when I cross my legs. As silly as it sounds, I feel a little more fired up and ready to go wearing them.

  9. I always wear crazy socks with boots. Since I’m in the midwest and the winters are cold, I occasionally wear TWO crazy pairs of socks. It’s fun, even if I’m the only one who knows about it.

  11. Secret rebellions are so important to surviving corporate life. I have a diamond Hello Kitty necklace. The Kitty is only a silhouette, so those unfamiliar with her don’t know. Those who are familiar, women and gay men, love it.

  12. Having recently had a doctor order me to wear horrible, ugly boot-like contraptions, I acquired piles of fun socks like these. Nobody can see them and they make me feel better about both the health issue and the corporate zombie suit issue.

  13. So, being in the south and cold natured, I occasionally wear tall boots and mostly under dress slacks. Certainly most of the male attnys wear boots to the courthouse – year round. Here’s my question: Do you wear anything underneath the socks – i.e., tights – or is it socks and bare legs? I know the bare legs wouldn’t show with slacks, but what about long-ish skirts or suit skirts? So often the fall looks in adverts are tights and boots…so are you wearing great fun socks atop the tights and no one sees them? When I lived in DC/MD for three years (referred to as the ‘exile’ period) I wore microfiber and fleece lined boots but then changed to work pumps in office. Even though autumn is a good two months or more away here in Texas, one’s closet and hosiery drawer have to be ready! Thanks for the clarification.

    I always thought boots with a skirt was a no-no. It’s the main reason I wear pants so much, just so I can wear boots. I’m always cold.
    Was I wrong? Are boots with a skirt okay?

    i once saw a HR lady at a London investment bank wearing knee high boots with (she told me) over-the-knee socks. her skirt was long enough that the tops of the socks didn’t show.

    an alternative is to find those leggings they make for figure skaters (which keep one warm even on ice) if you are in a really cold place..

  19. I wear boots w/ skirts so long as the skirt is knee length or lower so that skin only peeks out if I cross my legs. I have also once or twice worn neat knee high socks w/ a knee length skirt and dress shoes. I got lots of compliments but I felt a little too dirty school girl and didn’t do that look again.
