Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Trina Turk ‘Westcott’ Skirt

We're loving the tweeds at the moment, for some reason, including this lovely multi-colored skirt from Trina Turk. Normally, rainbow-colored items are totally inappropriate, but the chunky tweed has a way of muting the reds, blues, greens, and yellows speckled throughout this skirt; also, the vaguely vertical pattern seems incredibly flattering. I respect this skirt, but I don’t like it. Does that make sense?
I agree with housecounsel. Something is off about it to me. Maybe it’s the waist band. I would probably have preferred something with a cute belt or button for a bit of something.
Perfect! On a recent trip to the ladies room I passed a handful of women in gray pants. Why is our fall/winter go-to gray pants?!
I, too, am in gray pants today.
I always try to avoid grey pants until October because I’ll basically wear grey pants through March. Six months of grey pants is enough for me. I would like some alternatives to the grey pants and sweater set look for fall/winter business casual. Suggestions?
I agree with housecounsel. It just seems kind of blah…maybe it’s the way Nordstrom has of making their photos unflattering…
Why would anyone pay over $200 for this skirt? So ordinary! You could find a nice alternative skirt of nice quality for less than $100.00.
I really like this! But agree with Ashley-$200 is way too much. If it went on sale for less than $100 I think it would be worth it.

I think this is a great skirt. If you go to nordstrom.com and zoom in, you’ll see that the tweed has almost every color of the rainbow in it, which means lots of options for things to wear on top. The result is a neutral that doesn’t look like any other tweed in your closet. If I hadn’t just bought an entire new fall/winter wardrobe during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I would buy this for $200. But if it ends up on the sale rack in six weeks (which most things do in this economy) I will buy it for <$150.
I always have a thing for tweeds. Usually black and white and grey but this is more interesting.
I don’t think I dislike this, per se, but it does remind me of a lite brite.
Why is multi-colored usually a no-no? I’m not talking Rainbow Brite here, but the blanket statement that “rainbow-colored items are totally inappropriate” seems out of whack with some of the many-hued prints featured in recent TPS reports. I like colors, and I like this skirt. I wouldn’t pay $200 for it, but it’s still a nice alternative to gray or black.
This piece seems budget priced compared to past TPS Splurge reports.
The balck waistband has a cinching effect, making the waist appear smaller. Trina Turk usually fits really well, that helps me accept the price.

I think this length is really hard to pull off at any height/weight. This ‘model’ even looks sort of frumpy in this.
Kneelength is hard to pull off? That’s, like, everyone’s default.
I’m loving tweeds right now, too – I think it’s because fall is nearing.
I’m with housecounsel on this – respect the skirt, but don’t like it. There are far better tweed skirts out there.
I do tweeds all fall and winter, I love them! Others say gray is their go-to for the cold winter months; for me, it’s tweed.
That said, I don’t like this skirt. I don’t like the waistband (what is that, elastic?), and I don’t like the high waist. High waists just don’t flatter this pear-shaped woman.
