The Corporette Workwear Hall of Fame

corporette workwear hall of fameWelcome to The Corporette Workwear Hall of Fame! I started this blog in 2008 -- and I've been fascinated to see how, every so often, a company gets such a rave response to a dress, bag, or blazer that they keep producing the item, year after year.  There may be new colors or patterns, or slight adaptions like pockets or sleeves -- but in general it's the exact same product.  These classic, best-selling styles are exactly the pieces you want to use to build your work wardrobe.  We always mention the Hall of Famers in our biweekly Hunts (where we go on the Hunt for a classic workwear piece), but I thought it would be great to collect some of these heavy hitters into one easy place for readers to review the items.  Thus: the Corporette Workwear Hall of Fame was born.

Workwear Hall of Fame: Paulina Leather Pump

We’ve included this pump from Trotters in a number of our roundups of the best low heels, but I don’t think we’ve ever highlighted it in its own post. I love this black python-print leather, the short 1.75″ heel, and the classic kitten heel look. It comes in 10 colors and five (!) widths at Nordstrom for $99-$109 and is also available at Zappos and Amazon. It’s got great reviews at all three sites! Paulina Leather Pump

2017 Update: We’re adding this heel to our Workwear Hall of Fame! Nordstrom, Amazon and Zappos all carry the shoe in a TON of colors, and it’s winning rave reviews everywhere.

Workwear Hall of Fame: Fabulist Heels

comfortable heels for work: Anne KleinThese $80 strappy pumps have been on my radar for a while now, and for some reason I’m always amazed to see how many rave reviews they get at Zappos: right now there are 187 reviews and a solid 5-star rating. There are more colorways right now than I’ve ever seen before, too: seven color options, including this lovely rosey tweedy fabric/leather duo (there’s also a really great textured black leather if you’re a black-pump-only kind of girl). Plus, I’m always inclined to think fondly of Anne Klein’s comfortable iFlex line of shoes — I was wearing a pair of them when I met my husband.  (Red strappy peep toes, if you must know.) The pictured shoes are $80 at Zappos. Anne Klein Fabulist

Workwear Hall of Fame: Inverted-Pleat Blouse

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.Inverted sleeveless top for work - collage

This top from Vince Camuto has 100+ reviews at Macy’s, and 92% of the reviewers would recommend it to others. It’s normally $69, but right now it’s on sale for $41-$54 and you can get an extra 30% off with promo code FRIEND. I like the wide range of colors — black, cobalt, red, white, navy, pale pink, and a black floral. I think it just looks great — and it’s machine washable. It comes in sizes XS-XL. It’s also at at Macy’s and Amazon (plus sizes too), and Nordstrom has the blouse in a shift dress form. Inverted-Pleat Blouse

Readers were talking about liking this top from Kohl’s for wearing under blazers and cardigans as a much more affordable version of the beloved Boden Ravello. Some of the prints are kind of out there, but the solid colors look great — and you never know, you may find a print you like. It comes in regular, petite, and women’s sizes for $17-$36. Commuting Hall of Fame: Penny Boot

Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Happy Weekend! This Sam Edelman boot has been around for a thousand years, and it’s very highly rated everywhere. It doesn’t go on sale very often, so this is a great opportunity to snap it up. Amazon has it as low as $102, Nordstrom has some lucky sizes in a price range of $84 to $149, and at Zappos they’re $149 as well. These come in a few colors, and in wide sizes as well as an extensive size range in the regular width, 4-13. They’d be great if you’re looking for a boot to commute to and from work and to wear on slushy and/or rainy days. Sam Edelman Penny Boot

2017 Update: We’re adding this boot to our Workwear Hall of Fame because it keeps coming out in more colors and sizes and getting rave reviews.

Workwear Hall of Fame: Judith Silk Blouse

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.judith silk blouse - great sleeveless silk top!

This silk blouse is one of the bestsellers at Saks, and although it looks a little boring, it’s got a classic style and kind of seems perfect in every way. I like the pleats at the shoulders and the high, unfussy kind of neckline — it’s not too low-cut and it’ll lay properly inside of your blazer or cardigan. (This can be a great layering piece for spring, summer, and fall.) This top is silk/elastane, available in three colors (black, navy, and creme) in sizes XS-XL, and it’s $178 at Saks. Judith Silk Blouse

This blouse is $68 and a deadringer; Amazon has some options of the pictured blouse at muuuuch lower prices as well.

2018 Update: We’re adding this top to our Workwear Hall of Fame because after it’s still around, coming out in new colors, and getting rave reviews. Saks and Bloomingdale’s have the most options, but occasionally Amazon it as well. If you’re looking for more affordable sleeveless tops for work, check out our most recent roundup!
