Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Tulip Skirt

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Picture-2This brand, Harvey Faircloth, came to our attention recently because one of the 3 designers was in the news, having recently been appointed design director for Kate Spade Accessories.  But when we clicked through to look at her brand, we fell in love with the slightly different, interesting pieces — particularly this tulip skirt, which comes in seersucker, a geometric print (also pictured, but in the top), a navy cotton/linen, a narrow stripe (we think that’s pictured), and a navy silk gazar.  We love the high waist, the bow detailing in the back, and the way it can feel extremely casual (see right) or dressed up for the office.  It’s $295 at Harvey Faircloth, available currently only in sizes 2 and 4.   Tulip Skirt

Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: BB Dakota Daphne Top

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We like this cool white top from BB Dakota, with just enough detailing to make it really interesting.  We like the knotted bits at the scoopneck; we also like loose fit of it — we’d wear it tucked into a skirt or pants, bloused a bit.  It’s $45 at Urban Minx in sizes XS to L.    BB Dakota Daphne Top

Thursday’s TPS Report: Paisley Dye Burnout 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

. Allen Allen – Paisley Dye Burnout Three Fourth Sleeve Cardigan (Kelp)We know:  not for everyone.  Still, we must say that we’ve come back to this cardigan and considered it for a few weeks for a TPS.  We like the paisley pattern, as well as the soothing spring color.  We’d wear it with gray trousers for the office, with perhaps a hot pink accent somewhere in the outfit — a belt, or a nice tank just peeking out from under it.  It’s $62 at Zappos. Wednesday’s TPS Report: Split Neck Stretch Cotton Sheath Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Split Neck Stretch Cotton Sheath DressReader J wrote to us with a question about the plus-sized version of this dress: “What do you think about this? Sometimes its hard to know how it would drape but I think (from the picture) that it has good structure.  I think I really like the print and am 5’10 so I can usually pull a print off. But at the same time I also kind of hate the print/think it could look ugly.  What do you think?  Could I get away with this at work, is it ugly?”  We agree that prints can be very case-by-case — one print will look great on one girl, but hideous on another — and florals are a big trend right now, so this is something we should talk about.  Here, we like the more abstract nature of the pattern, as well as the strong emphasis on dark brown and purple — for the office, we would focus on picking up those colors in a cardigan or blazer.  As always with Donna Ricco, we do love the structure (all of our DR dresses are slimming and comfortable, but without the need for massive shapewear).  You can get it at Nordstrom for $118 (in regular sizes) or $128 (in plus sizes).  Donna Ricco Split Neck Stretch Cotton Sheath Dress

Readers, what are your thoughts on wearing florals to the office?

Tuesday’s TPS Report: ‘Ultimate Weave’ Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

‘Ultimate Weave’ DressToday’s dress was recommended by reader A, who notes: “I just ordered this dress and love the simple but flattering cut. It’s also long enough for work & fabric can be hand washed/machine washed (though it says dry clean). Would look lovely on its own, or with a navy blazer on top. The colour is what made me go “wow!” – it would flatter practically every skin tone – from very dark to porcelain-skinned redheads! At over $200 (free shipping though), bit expensive but I think this one’s worth it.”  We think it looks lovely, and might also suggest trying it with a charcoal blazer to mute some of the color for the office. It’s $228 at Nordstrom. Classiques Entier ‘Ultimate Weave’ Dress
