Rockport Women's Barbarella Pump WaveI saw this shoe mentioned somewhere recently as one of the highest-rated heels for comfort, and have had my eye on it. The “smokey teal” color, pictured,  is particularly fun — but it also comes in the more sedate black, brown, and “camel.” The shoe is normally $130, but with the Cyber-Monday deals going on at Endless (spend $100 save $30, spend $200 save $60, spend $300 save $100) the price drops to a reasonable $104.92 (with free shipping). 1. I’m afraid that shoe makes me think of the late, lovely, but not stylish, Queen Mother. I’m imagining the matching hat…

  2. Wow. I think these are gorgeous. I would totally buy them. Except that I am a super klutz and that heel height would result in a disasterously embarassing faceplant….

  3. Hello all!

I will be sworn into the CA State Bar this Friday at a ceremony at my law school. The school hasn’t given us much direction on dress code so I was hoping you could help. What would be appropriate? Should we dress as if it we’re appearing in court (conservative suit, close-toed shoes)? Or a little more casual? Please give advice!

    1. I wore a suit to my swearing in… but it was at the state capitol in a Midwestern state. I can see how a swearing in at the law school might seem more casual, but I still say court-appropriate dress, as you will be appearing in front of judges.

    2. I was sworn in at Hastings – some wore suits, some were in business casual, and some were on the out-to-nice-lunch-with-family side of business casual i.e. more like a nice dress. And a good number wore casual. I’d say the full suit was a sizeable minority, but certainly a minority. I wore a suit with a court-inappropriate but office-ok (due to color and flair) top.

If it’s anything like Hastings’s, you will be put in a big auditorium and sit wherever you want. The judge(s) will be on the front podium and will have you stand en masse and take the oath(s), and then you all sit down again, like saying the pledge at a ballgame. It’s not like graduation where you’re walking across a stage one at a time. No one will see your shoes.

If you want to try to schmooze with the judges after (which could be difficult given potential crowds), then of course you should be in full suit attire.

    3. Business attire was mandatory at both of my swearing ins. Wear a suit and closed-toed shoes for sure. It doesn’t have to be your most conservative suit, though (but I personally would want to look as polished and lawyerly as possible if your family is attending, they’ll take pics).

  4. Bought them in brown, since my brown heels for work have been falling apart. Hopefully they aren’t TOO high…but hey, free return shipping!

  5. Sorry girls but those heels are hideous! Reminds me of the old block heels from the late 90s!

  6. I really like the color of this pump. It’s unusual and interesting without being too flashy and young.

  7. I have these in black (am actually wearing them today) and love them. They are super comfy and broke in quickly, and I like the subtle kinda quirky vintage vibe they have about them.

  8. For all of the ladies who’ve poo-pooed this shoe as being, well, old fashioned my guess is that you’re relatively young with good feet. Fast forward to a few corns, bunions and spurs and you’ll feel my pain. I still consider myself stylish and love shoes, but I’ve come to the conclusion my feet are really at least 10 years older than the rest of me and they just won’t put up with very high heels or pointy toes. Especially on days when there’s lots of walking to be done. I hear them screaming, “You’ll pay for this! Subjecting us to inhumane and insufferable conditions! Why, we’ll sue you!”

  9. I love these pumps. I ordered them in camel and they came with free one-day shipping. The site also has free returns so I bought a few other pairs of shoes from them too. Love them all and there are some really great deals to be had on that site.

Thanks for the tip! (I still think there is WAY too much advertising on your site but sometimes your tips are still really good.)
