Two questions for the hive:
1. Can anyone recommend a good strapless bra or bustier that fits up to an H cup? Priced $100 or less would be ideal.
2. What are our thoughts on one-shoulder dresses? (For social events.)
Runnin' for it
1. I will be watching these responses. I have a wedding to go to at the end of July and will shop in the next couple of weeks for a new G cup strapless bra. I will report back if I find one that I like.
2. I think one sholder dresses look lovely. They are a little more unique than strapless dresses.
R
Wore both for my wedding a few months ago. I will check the brand of the bra when I get home, but I loved it. I have worn goddess brand strapless bras in the past and never really felt 100% sure they were going to stay up/supportive all night, but the new one is a different brand and I felt completely secure in it. It was long line, which I know isn’t everyone’s favorite. For those in DC, I got it at Trousseau in Vienna, Va, about which I have only good things to say. They were wonderful in every way, from fitting me to finding a way to get me the bra when the one I ordered got waylayed by the volcano in Iceland.
The one shoulder dress was a js boutique dress from nordstrom, which doesn’t seem to be available any more, but I found it to be a really flattering neckline for me and also appreciated knowing that even if I stepped on it, it wasn’t going to fall down.
R
Mine was an Elila, style number 6420. It won’t be as pretty as chantelle bras, but very functional.
Eponine
I am in DC – thanks for the rec!
RJT
I second this recommendation — I got a VERY comfortable bustier for my wedding (DDD cup) at Trousseau, and have since used it far more often than I ever thought I would, because it’s a great option for all the dresses I thought I couldn’t wear because of bra straps. I don’t know the brand off the top of my head, but Trousseau will be able to help you.
Ru
Although I am a person obsessed with symmetry, I think one-shouldered dresses are lovely for social occasions. The curve of the strap to the top of the neckline/bodice/whatever-it’s-called is so graceful.
What I don’t understand are one-sleeved dresses/tops. That’s just too weird.
Eponine
Yeah, I tend to agree that one strap is nice, one sleeve looks weird. Can’t put my finger on why, though.
CW
1. A friend just recommended Chantelle’s strapless bras. I can’t give a personal recommendation, but she bought it for her wedding.
2. I like one-shoulder dresses on other people, but always think they look weird on me.
E
No help on #1.
On #2, I personally dislike the one-shoulder dress. I recognize that they are popular and trendy right now so I wouldn’t fault anyone for wearing one, but I haven’t adjusted to the look and think it’s odd.
Ms. Basil E. Frankweiler
I can’t suggest a brand, but after I got correctly fitted at Nordstrom, I went over to Rack and got a nearly identical bra for about 50% less. For reference, I am a 36F.
Eponine
Yes – the Rack is my favorite place for bras too :).

I was actually searching for the same thing recently! I saw a recommendation on full-figured strapless bras:
http://wellstyled.net/blog/2011/05/best-bras-cups-d-to-h/
I wear this brand and can vouch for its quality, though do not own a strapless.
Eponine
Oh, I am wearing a Panache bra right now and it is great. I’ll have to check out the strapless – thanks!
anon-oh-no
cant recoomend a bra, but im wild about one-shoulder dresses. I always love them, but they are particularly in fashion right now
Notalawyer
There are several options for this type of bra at Bravissimo.com. I haven’t tried any of the strapless or bustiers, but I am a repeat customer and have been very happy with my past purchases on the whole.
shrink
Am eager to find out as well…been a long time since I had the need and the willingness to try strapless.
I see several in brasmyth dot com. and their returns are easy. Your time may not permit.
Thanks for starting this post!

One-shoulder dresses can be lovely! I just hate dealing with strapless bras enough that I avoid anything like that if possible. You are a trooper.
Can’t speak to H issues, am merely a D.

I don’t have recommendations for either, but I do have a bra-specific gripe: why is it that bramakers insist on making bras with straps that are only adjustable part way??? many of us who are in higher cup sizes do not need extra long straps, especially those of us who are short but still of a larger bust size. I HATE this. Every time I find a bra that is both comfortable and the correct size, I can’t buy it because the straps are only partially adjustable and way too long even on the shortest length.
Eponine
Are you sure about the straps?
http://www.knickersblog.com/top-five-bra-sizing-myths/699
I used to think that straps were always too long on me too, until I realized I was a 34 and not a 38. Having said that, if the straps really are too long on you, you can get them shortened by a tailor for about $10.
Another Anonymous
Yeah–I have been properly fitted and I am a 34 DDD or E. However, my breasts sit high on my body and I am rather short, so no matter what–even if I went for a smaller size, which wouldn’t fit my cup or circumference, the straps are just too long unless they are fully adjustable.
AN
Eponine – Check out Bravissimo’s strapless bra section on their website. Can’t recall the style name but you can find it. I feel great finally being able to have the option to wear so many styles that I though I never could….
1 shoulder dresses can be v flattering – depends on how you style them…only earrings, hair up etc. Check out the soon-to-be Monaco Princess…she wears them well.
Eponine
Thanks! I’ve never bought from Bravissimo.
Herbie
I like one-shouldered dresses. Agree that one-sleeve dresses look weird.

1. Chantelle. 32DD and it’s the only one I’ve found that works for strapless (another thing that works is going down a size if you’re between two- I wear a 32 or 34, depending on the brand, but do a 32 for the extra grip when I buy strapless bras).
2. Meh. I’m not the biggest fan, but think they can look good on other people. One thing I’ve noticed (maybe because have a larger chest and am paranoid about it myself) is that they often make boobs look asymmetrical and a bit wonky on women with larger chests.
CaribbeanGirl
For those with oily skin, can you recommend an oil-free moisturizer with sunblock (at least SPF 30) that keeps you’re face shine-free throughout the day? I don’t do tinted moisturizers because they don’t provide enough coverage for my blemishes and acne scars.
I am really struggling to find something that doesn’t end up looking like an oil slick on my face by mid-morning. I use different oil-free foundations ranging from Prescriptives (bought in bulk before they went under) and MAC. Also, I live in the South and really need to UVA/B protection in addition to the moisturizing.
I’m willing to try anything from drug store to “luxury” brands and have tried multiple products from lines like MAC, La Roche Posay, and Paula’s Choice.
Eponine
Not a moisturizer, but if you want sunscreen only, I use Neutrogena Age Shield and really like it. I also like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, but Age Shield seems to go on a bit better and sits better under my makeup, somehow.
Circe
I have the best luck using separate products. Use your favorite moisturizer then put Neutrogena face shield or whatever they call it (advertised to be invisible under makeup and it is the only thing that doesn’t grease my foundation off).
Ashley
I use Eucerin Everyday Protection, SPF 30. I have combination skin in the summer, so YMMV.
So
I use this too, and it does a great job of keeping shiny forehead at bay (which was a major issue I had had with other moisturizers, w/ or w/o SPF). It’s worked much better than products that are twice as expensive, in my opinion.
govt lawyer
I also put on my favorite moisturizer and then use Clinique’s superbalanced powder makeup on top which has titanium dioxide (physical sunblock as opposed to chemical). This means I have no risks of possible cancer-issues like there are with oxybenzone and other chemical sunblocks and that even though it is labeled SPF 15, so long as I have makeup on, I am protected from the sun’s rays. (In other words, beware or sweating it off, but other than that, you’re protected).

Here’s a link to it on amazon (didn’t want it to hold up my post in case it goes into moderation): http://www.amazon.com/Clinique-Superbalanced-Mineral-Rich-Formula-Natural/dp/B002ZVO7IS

I’m never shiny and it holds up great in super humid weather. At most I look “dewey”
anon
have you tried the mineral powder foundations?
CaribbeanGirl
Yes, a couple of MAC ones and Physicians Formula (from the drug store). They tend to hold up better than the liquid fourndations in terms of keeping oil at bay but coverage isn’t that great. I prefer medium to full or buildable coverage and I just don’t get the evenness that I like with them. Though they are great for layering over my liquid foundation.
Makeup Junkie
Try Lucy Minerals for full-coverage mineral foundation. Application takes a few tries at first (it’s very different from other loose mineral foundations ) but the coverage is incredible.
I like Avon Radiance Day Lotion and I am very oily. It’s only SPF 15, unfortunately
Fashion Faux Pas
I like the Skin Authority line. I use the Super C serum and follow with the Sunscreen Moisturizer, but you could probably skip the C serum if you want. It’s on the pricey side, but I haven’t found anything else that keeps me from reaching for blotting paper before lunch time. Plus, they have skin coaches who will work with you to find the perfect combination of products (and not necessarily by selling additional products– the woman I work with told me to stop using something I already had).
mamabear
Clinique City Block SPF 25. I swear by it.
Paula Begoun recommends it for the acne-prone.
mamabear
I just saw you’re trying to cover scars as well. I use Jane Iredale mineral powder (a very small amount) over the City Block and it provides really good coverage. My dermatologist recommended the Jane Iredale specifically because it does not contriubte to acne.
L from Oz
I use Lancome facial sunscreen with a bit of my normal moisturizer (Laura Mercier) mixed in, and that works very well, but I’d only suggest it for the fairly pale, as the sunscreen isn’t completely sheer. Works fine with pasty me though.
Speaking of beaches, mid-afternoon on a boiling day at work today, a colleague wandered into my office and asked if I wanted to go to the beach. So we did. Fantastic. I’ll have to work late tomorrow to compensate for slinking away early today (I have a certain amount of flexi-time, but I still felt a bit guilty), but it was absolutely worth it – I feel like I’ve been on holiday. It’s been raining for a week, and the forecast is for more rain from tomorrow, so the break was awesome. Am grateful to have a job where I can be a bit flexible about these things – almost makes up for the lousy pay.
Eponine
Isn’t it winter in Oz? At any rate, I wish I could have gone to the beach today. Good for you.

From previous comments, I believe that L from Oz currently resides in N. Europe.
AIMS
Yep. Not sure about the Northern, but definitely Europe.
Good for you L from Oz. I wish my colleagues asked me to go to the beach!
L from Oz
Yup, am in Northern Europe, and in fact went swimming in the North Sea. Was surprisingly warm.
(Was in the office well before eight to start making up time, but yesterday was definitely worth it.)
AIMS, I have lovely colleagues!
CaribbeanGirl
Are you in Queensland? If so, I would be slinking off to the beach every day!
L from Oz
Am from Oz, now in Europe, but I’m not a Queenslander anyway, though I have a lot of relatives there. It’s funny, though – when I had a beach practically on my doorstep, and the appropriate weather, I rarely went, and now when it’s fifty-fifty that we get enough summer to go, I love it and regret not getting there more!
And for clarity’s sake, I might need to change my user name to L (formerly) from Oz.

Can anyone give me ideas for a birthday present for a 5-year old girl who is a “girly girl”? My ideas so far are a doll house, tea party set, or a nail spa (her parents have given her permission to paint her toe nails now that she is 5). Still not sold on any of these though. Any suggestion are much appreciated. TIA
E
A really huge set of crayons or markers! Crafty/artsy gifts were always my favorite even though I was never artistically talented.
Argie
Great minds think alike – I should refresh before posting!
Argie
Does she like to color or paint? I would have been over the moon (at that age) to have one of those huge boxes of crayons or multiple colored markers, and then maybe a coloring book that feeds into the girly side (Barbie, Disney Princess, etc.) Or some other crafty thing, stickers, colored paper, soft form form sticker shapes….
Nonny
Crayons, stickers and fun foam seconded. No markers unless they are water-soluble and the birthday girl’s mom is OK with it.
Girly girl or not, Lego *always* goes over well. Classic gift, and educational in nature (in a not-in-your-face way).
JM
I second Lego! Lego makes sets that are tailored to different interests and you will probably find something suitable for a girly-girl.
Valleygirl
check the age limit on some lego sets for choking – but i had the best beach resort lego set that i played with so much from about age 7-10…
at age five i loved sticker books and sticker sets…

Dress up clothes! A nice princess or ballerina outfit is always appreciated.
I always find a kids’ purse to be a hit. Throw some candy or some tiny trinkets inside, and you’re good to go.

Actually, my niece last weekend was fascinated by another little girl’s pink sparkly purse at a party we went to. This is a really good idea.
Anon
Just got my 6 yr old niece a pink princess keyboard cum vanity from Target. She loved it and plays it often. Sorry do not remember the brand, but if you do a “gift” search for 4-6 yr old girls in Target website, it should come up.
N
While the niece probably loves it, my youngest sister got a similar gift at one point, and my mother ended up hiding the batteries “to save them”. What’s popular with the young might not be as popular with the parents.

Go to savvyauntie dot com. Their gift section lets you sort by gender, age, category, personality, etc. It’s a great website for ideas. Love it.

A little girl purse filled with nail polish and chapstick.
Guaranteed she will love it.

My littlest niece turned 5 in April. She’s very much a girly-girl and she loves to dance. So I got her a cute outfit (striped tee and shorts) and a cd boombox. And then I made her some cds.
In the age of iPods, boomboxes are very cheap. And she – and her parents – loved the music. I put a bunch of Glee songs and old-school dance music like Madonna on it. She and her sisters had a dance party that evening.

I work with preschoolers in play therapy…
love all the princess, kitchen, doll house ideas and she may well have them.
I can suggest a puppet theatre. With costs in mind, many places have a puppet screen that’s on a tension rod so it can go in a doorway. This also is less space-demanding and can be used on a whim. Puppets themselves (with or w/o theatre) are also lots of fun. The best are folkmanis and the museum offerings which are make-it-yourself (used to be called UFITS) with a velcro head/face. Little girls also like the ones that have a character per hand of a knitted glove. I have picked up some that are reversible (turn the doll upside down, pull the skirt over it’s head and it’s a different character … the pockets of the skirt have the other characters. Mine is Snow White on one side and Little Red Riding Hood on the other.
If parents are aok, pottery sets are also fun. Many little girls like to add a real balance beam to their toy kitchen/grocery store. Or a grocery cart (complete with paper bags please) or “cash register.”
You might also go with a big art ” kit” that you can put together from an arts and crafts/hobby store. Try to get “Crayola” crayons – they are the best ones out there. Thick and thin markers that are washable are also good (again I vouch for the durability of the Crayola ones).
Play dough with cookie cutters.
Dry erase board, marker, erasers … they also make them with primary “writing lines” on the reverse (Lakeshore Learning/Educational). If you get a “big” one, it’s best if parents put a sheet of clear plastic behind it on the wall. Little ones don’t have control to stop their strokes :)
Enjoy and you’re wonderful in a little gals heart!
Lyssa
I love the puppet theater idea! I’m trying to think of any little kids that I know that I could find an excuse to give one to them (which they would, presumably, insist that I play along with).
AEK
I know kids (and “girly girls”) will like what they like, but I would have a hard time endorsing the princess craze even tacitly.
Nonny
Me too, hence the Lego! (though I love the puppet theatre idea too!)
Bunkster
Agreed. I’m also anti pink, but about 95% of little girls’ clothes are pink and they all go through a Disney Princess phase. I think all 3 of my nieces are off the pink and princess train, but it’s unavoidable.
Books!
Even princesses need to know how to read!

Regular poster venting. I was stopped at a red light on the way to work, and got rear ended by the man behind me who apparently was not paying attention to the freaking red light. Thankfully, no one was in front of me, so he only pushed me through the crosswalk and a little into the intersection instead of into someone else’s car (or a pedestrian!). We exchanged insurance information, he immediately admitted fault, and asked if I was ok. Points for that, I suppose. And his fancy german car plus a good insurance company should hopefully result in a hassle-free claim for my insurance company.
But I’ve wasted half my billable day going to the mechanic, the rental car agency, and just to be safe, the hospital. $2k in damage, and 10+ days without my car, at least. The mechanic said that the other guy hit me going 25-35mph, based on the damage to my “crumple zone.” And though I felt ok right after the accident, my neck and shoulder are really starting to bother me. The doctor said that I should feel worse tomorrow, and even worse on Thursday, before I start to feel better. Good thing I don’t have a vacation planned this weekend or anything. Oh wait, I do.
I’m trying to focus on being grateful it wasn’t worse, but I have less than zero desire to bill today.
Nonny
Sorry to hear this happened to you – what a horrible experience. Very glad you are OK and nothing worse happened. But, in case no-one has said this to you yet, *document everything*. These whiplash-type injuries can be insidious. Pay attention if you start to get headaches or back problems, and take notes. Hopefully nothing like that will happen to you, but if it does, you need to be able to prove it. In the meantime, take it easy and be kind to yourself.
another anon
Ditto this. And if his insurance co. tries to get you to sign something that says you don’t have any injuries, don’t do it.
Bunkster
So sorry. Being rear-ended really sucks. You will be sore for a while. What’s worse is the hassle of dealing with the insurance companies. I work for one, although I didn’t when I was rear-ended.
I’ve been rear-ended twice. The second time was just the worst. I was actually rear-ended by a sleazy lawyer. I’ll save you the details and just say he represented himself in court. When he hit me, he had a client in the car with him. She testified in court that he had her come in and sign a blank piece of paper, which he later added a false statement to.
Alex
I wouldn’t go to work tomorrow. You are going to be really sore.

I was just going to gripe about wasting two perfectly good billable hours looking in vain for a maxi dress to wear to the family BBQ. Now I will keep my gripes (mostly) to my self and wish you a speedy recovery.
jcb
First, to the OP – I’m so sorry, that really sucks! You must be so shaken. Forget the stupid billing, you have plenty of time to make that up later. Take the day off tomorrow if you can get someone to cover for you!
And second, I love this maxi dress enough that I bought two, and now that I looked it up for you I’m trying really hard not to be annoyed that today it is on massive sale (and the second one I bought is still in the bag unworn). Anyway, it is super comfortable and has good coverage, I’d wear it in a heartbeat to a family event (FWIW, am a 34D)

Jane Fairfax
Oooh! That is just what I was looking for. Thank you. Too bad it wouldn’t get here by Friday. I may have to treat myself anyway.
Why are there so few maxi dresses with real straps? Am I the only woman who needs to wear real bra? I wanted a maxi dress because they look so cool and comfy, which is totally negated by needing to wear a strapless bra.
Alex
It’s frustrating that there are so many cute tops that can’t take a real bra. I always need to wear a real bra!
PS – Also of course wishing the OP a speedy recovery in addition to my advice to take the day off. They go hand-in-hand :) As I re-read through these my post seemed a little terse!
jcb
Totally agree. That’s why I love this one so much. It has a v in the back so you aren’t super covered up, but you can wear a regular bra. And it isn’t cut down to your navel or so blousy that you have to watch out for boob tunnel.
Seattleite
That bites. I’m sorry. I got rear-ended – he actually hit me twice! – by a client of my firm! Took over a year of yoga and chiropractor visits to feel somewhat normal again.

Please take care of yourself. Work can wait.
Another Anonymous
I was recently hit by someone going the same approximate speed. I have been going to a physical therapist (on my doctor’s recommendation), and it has helped immensely. I second the poster who said that work can wait–taking care of yourself is super important, especially now before any possibly injuries are compounded by sitting in your office chair.
Bonnie
Definitely take the time to get better. Is it bad that the lawyer in me thought that you should immediately write an affidavit to document your pain?
somewherecold
Getting to this a little late, but I hope you are doing better today. If you’re injuries are like mine were when I was in a car accident, you’re probably doing worse. Whiplash is serious and can start in your neck, travel down your back, and generally be really unpleasant. The best advice my doctor gave me was to start physical therapy really soon. That helped me get in control of the whiplash and really fight through it.
Write down everything. It sounds like it’s a no-brainer that you are 0% at fault, but it’s good to have your immediate recollection documented as well as any symptoms documented by you and your doctor (I had weekly checkups with my PCP after my accident). Obviously, physical therapy and PCP follow-ups are covered by the at-fault driver’s insurance.
Last, I was really pissed after my accident. I was hit head on by someone that crossed the line and I still have no idea why she did it (I don’t know if I would feel better or worse if there was some reason, other than just not paying attention). It’s ok to be angry that someone’s carelessness is causing you so much grief.
Herbie
Second the documenting suggestion. Keep a log next to your work/home phones & a pad in your purse. Every time you talk to him, someone from his insurance company, the mech’s shop, etc., make a note of date, time, who you talked with, and the gist of the conversation. This is extremely helpful if things go south with the insurance company. I’d even write a little memo to yourself today describing exactly how the accident happened, what the guy said, etc. Your memory gets fuzzy, so having this contemporaneous record can be helpful later on.
Also, I got rear-ended a few years ago by someone when I was stopped at a red-light. You probably won’t REALLY start hurting until later tonight and tomorrow. So you may need to go back to the hospital, an urgent care clinic, or your GP to deal with that (you may need some muscle relaxants and/or pain pills). This is also important in terms of documenting any injury so you can get compensated by his insurance company. It’s hard to complain about being hurt if you don’t actually seek medical treatment or if you delay in doing so.
Also, with soft tissue damage, be prepared that even though you didn’t break any bones, you may not feel quite “right” for a long time–longer than you would expect just for having been rear-ended. For me, it was about 6 months of initially being in pretty severe pain and then later feeling stiff, tired, and just not normal.
As for billing, I hear you. Such a hassle and so frustrating when you’ve probably got more than enough on your plate. But make sure you take care of yourself. Life’s too short to spend it all billing.
F
I just did a practice run for wedding hair….and was not impressed. I justnmoved to the area and the stylist came recommended by a senior, one of only a few females, colleague who raved and visits every 6 weeks like clockwork. I dont know if it was her work or my hair/choice.
I have a lot of hair, so she spent 2 hours doing a practice run tonight and was obviously exhausted. I felt too awkward to voice me true thoughts (which were along the lies of WTF?). Now I feel like I’ve REALLY stuffed it up by not saying anything right away!
I am on a very small “until wedding” budget bc i’m paying cash for everythig and theres a lot of last minute expenses, and doing a re-practice run is really
unattractive price wise. I am hyper critical of myself anyways, and do nt want to look at wedding pictures on a mantle for the next 50 years of my wonky hair, although I will love the husband in them with me.
I’m even more annoyed at myself for caring so much about this! What to do?!
Eponine
We’re talking about a few hundred dollars at most for hair, right? Spend the money and find a new stylist – go to two or three stylists if need be, even if you put a couple of hundred dollars on a credit card. You want to look and feel your best on your wedding day, and you want to be able to look at that picture every day and remember how beautiful you looked.
I’m normally not a big proponent on spending a ton of money on weddings, but spending a few hundred dollars to make sure your hair is just right on a day when everyone is going to be looking at and photographing you is perfectly reasonable.
EC MD
I was not wedding obsessed, am not a girly-girl at all, but ended up dropping what I felt was a lot of cash for my wedding hair, and never regretted it. I felt really pretty and special that day. I would call the stylist in the morning (even write out what you are going to say) and figure out if she was happy with it. If she was, you need to find someone else (wedding websites — knot.com boards for your area??). If she admits it was less than spectacular, go back and ask her to do it again. Can you pinpoint what you didn’t like? That will be helpful for whoever ends up doing your hair.
E
I think you call her up and say, “once I got home yesterday I decided this wasn’t the look I was going for for my wedding. I can’t pinpoint what exactly I didn’t like about it – what do you think about how it came out?”
If she says to come back in and she’ll give it another go at a reduced price, then give it that shot. If she doesn’t have a satisfactory answer, then just tell her you’re thinking things over but you’ll probably end up seeing what another stylist comes up with. Don’t worry too much – you’re not being a bridezilla! This is very reasonable.

Spend the money if you have to. I like the suggestion of just telling the stylist you got home and now aren’t sure. They are usually good about that kind of thing. I got married out of the country and my relatives did my hair and makeup. They were fine, and I had the most incredible time, and I looked lovely, but, when I look at the pictures, I have a little pang of regret that I didn’t have a stylist to do those things for me. (I also kind of regret not buying the dress I really wanted because I was paying for it myself . I settled for a very nice bridesMAID’s dress (in white, of course!) that was only about $250…so great savings, but I still dream of the $2,300 dress I loved).

If you can, check weddingwire and weddingbee for local recommendations. Lots of people will rave about stylists they’re happy with – but just so you’re aware, good inexpensive stylists book up at least 8-12 months in advance in major areas.

Did you take photos of your hairdo? I’d suggest taking photos of the style and looking at them after a few hours or a day and then try to analyze what it is that bothers you (and what you like). Good luck and congrats!

Call tomorrow and be upfront about your feelings. You definitely need this figured out before the big day. Perhaps offer to come in early one day before the stylist is exhausted?

Oops. Meant as a response to F.

Ladies, I had a new unpleasant experience on the T this morning. There were 2 teenage boys sitting across from me. They were chewing tobacco and spitting in plastic bottles.
It was so gross I actually got nauseous.
Alex
A guy I work with does this at his desk. It might be the nastiest habit ever.

Gross.

Sat next to a guy at a football game once who did this for the entire game, except he spat on the ground. Disgusting.

These shoes ARE pretty. But I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $80 for a single pair of shoes. Can anyone tell me if the pricier shoes are actually any more comfortable or better for your feet than the lower-end ones?
R.C.
I think they’re more comfortable if the materials are of a higher quality. Once I graduated to more expensive shoes, I got snobby about this. Synthetic materials make my feet hot. I know this sounds totally crazy, but I SMELL the shoe before I buy it. If it smells like off-gassing, I am suspicious about the quality and I won’t buy it.
That said, a $10 pair of flip flops is more comfortable than a $700 pair of 4″ Louboutin, if you ask me. So, you have to compare apples to apples in terms of the heel height and shoe type.
