We're in a peep-toe kind of mood today, and we're loving these lovely pumps from olsenHaus (which, apparently, has no connection to the fashion empire of those other Olsens). In addition to being ridiculously cute and having a heel below 3″ (the combo is hard to find), the shoes are also vegan. We like the gray/yellow (pictured), but the hot pink or teal would make a fun pop of color to an otherwise sedate outfit. They're $199.95 at Endless.com. olsenHaus Women's Grace 2 Peep Toe Pump,Grey/Citron,7 M US N.B. Peep toe shoes are not appropriate for all offices. Know your office! (L-2)Sales of note for 9.30.24

VEGAN SHOES! From all of us who avoid leather, thank you!
Ru
Love the shoes.

$200? It’s not even leh-tha!
Sorry, but I love Working Girl :)
All kidding aside, I like this pick!

Very happy to see vegan shoes as well. I wish they weren’t all so expensive though. I think I saw some (by Stella McCartney maybe?) that were several hundred dollars….

Totally agree — I always say that I’m going to stop wearing leather, just as soon as I can afford to.

If you’re looking for less expensive but still high quality Vegan Shoes, I have two pairs from Neuaura that I LOVE.

I think “vegan shoes” are generally a term used to justify charging $200 for shoes made of synthetic material.
The fake leather shoes at Target, Payless, etc. all cost about $20. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but is there any difference between these materials and those?
Chicago K
Not a huge fan of the colors, but I do like the style and want to give a thank you for featuring a vegan shoe!

It’s nice to see a shoe you can walk in without looking orthopedic – and something Vegan that isn’t also a horrific pleather – that said, I’m always concerned about how comfortable the non-leather will be in terms of stretch, fit, etc… Anyone wear these?
Also, remember, it may not be leather, but shoes made out of plastic blends are ultimately derived from crude oil – hardly an eco-friendly choice. Not that oil’s bad per se (my father owns a fuel oil company… fuel oil paid for my parents’ house and 3 kids to go to college!) – but be aware!

I think these shoes are adorable!! And vegan to boot–great! If only they came in flats so I could wear them to the airport…..

I’ve never had any notable problems with sweat/smell from my non-leather shoes.
From the olsenHaus website:
Olsenhaus uses alternative, sustainable and renewable plant-based and man-made, non-animal materials such as: ultra suede, organic cotton, canvas, nylon, velvet, linen, cork, and a synthetic eco-lining. We are 100% vegan: no leather, fur, wool or silk is ever used. Soles are a composite of rubber, glues are rubber-based and vegan, paint is vegan and non-toxic. Nothing is tested on animals. Olsenhaus continually searches for more innovative techniques and encourages our factories and suppliers to use safer processes. Synthetic and plant based materials account for far less pollution, and use only a fraction of the energy when compared to any leather. Most synthetics available today are flexible, breathable, and biodegradable. In addition, alternative materials are consistent in size, shape and thickness and therefore the entire piece is used, unlike a leather, which creates an enormous amount of waste.
They have some cute flats made of “100% Recycled Television Screen Microfiber” – whatever that is!

Help — Any runners here us the Nike+Sportband? (It’s here: http://amzn.to/alETc8 if you aren’t sure what I’m talking about)
Love it? Hate it? My sister (a casual runner aiming toward her first half marathon) is undergoing knee surgery tomorrow (which will let her run again after a forced hiatus due to an injury). I thought about sending flowers (she’s about 1,000 miles away) but the cost would be around $70 – which is ridiculous for things that die in a couple weeks. I want to send her one of these sportbands, but not being a runner, am not sure whether they’re ‘good’ or not.. any reviews? Other suggestions?
Thanks!!!
Erin
Having had knee surgery and been a runner (past tense due to a different injury, unfortunately) it honestly could be a year or more until she’s able to run again, so the sportband might not be the best gift at the moment – maybe better to wait and give it to her as a congratulatory gift when she gets her doctor’s clearance to run again?
Obviously I don’t know your sister, but if I were bedridden, I’d rather receive a gift card so I could while away the hours shopping online. You could send her the card saying you had planned to buy her a sportband but weren’t sure what she really wanted, so you’ve planted the idea in her head to get the sportband if she does want something like this.

Thanks! It’s fairly minor surgery — arthroscopic to remove torn cartilage (I had the same surgery while in college – it’s a few days miserable-on-painkillers and then about 6 weeks physical therapy for recovery) — Appreciate the idea – Much easier to send from NJ to FL!
Shayna
Seriously guys – other suggestions welcome!

Hit submit too soon — if it helps, she’s in medical school, doesn’t like chocolate, eats ridiculously healthily, likes baseball and goes to the gym…

I always love getting one of those edible fruit bouquets from Edible Arrangements. I’m really not a flower person, but I love the idea of getting a “bouquet” that is not only beautiful, but immensely practical (and healthy too). Maybe send her a nice one of those!

I like giving books on tape to people who are sick or in the hospital – if you have to be off your feet, it’s something you can do while nodding off, and doesn’t take as much effort as reading. I recommend David Sedaris for a good laugh, or mystery stories because they keep you engaged (even though I usually am not a big mystery story person).

Been there. I credit knee surgery rehab with my current love for cycling – so much easier on the knees than running was. Things I bought myself that would have been much appreciated gifts:
1. iTunes gift certificate so that she can buy music to do her rehab exercises (and eventually run) to – she could also use it to buy exercise DVDs on iTunes, which she might find helpful if she wants to do lower impact strength exercise like yoga or pilates during recovery.
2. Instant cold packs. The reusable ones are nice but I had to work during recovery and I felt gross putting my knee ice pack in the lunch freezer, so the instant ones come in very handy if her knee hurts during the day or if she wants to ice it while in the car/bus/train. Or get her a cute happy face ice pack or something. (http://www.amazon.com/First-Aid-Only-Instant-Compress/dp/B000YM8DQM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1278645871&sr=1-3).
3. Insoles. The ones linked below are the kind I use and they’re amazing. (http://www.amazon.com/Superfeet-Premium-Berry-Insole-womens/dp/B0015ZES1G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qlEnable=1&qid=1278646140&sr=1-1)
None are really that exciting, but she’ll appreciate them for a lot longer than flowers. Also armbands like the kind you posted are a big personal preference thing – between sizing, materials, how much you sweat, etc., I’d agree with whoever above said to let her find one.
Shayna
Thanks!!! My sister and I are very close – but we’re also VERY different! I’m not an athlete – at all – so I’m at a loss with this stuff!

For those in the market for vegan shoes of the cute sneaker variety, Endless has vegan Sauconys on sale, but I think the sizes/availability is limited.

These are cute! I have to say, though, I have a pair of OlsenHaus pumps and they are super-painful. My Beyond Skin pumps (another vegan line), I wear *all* the time. I think it’s a difference in materials–the OH ones are very stiff and don’t seem to be softening up a bit. I didn’t return them, thinking they would surely get more comfortable, and now I regret that. If you like the look, by all means order—but if they hurt, return them immediately. There seems to be no breaking them in.

This might dissuade me from spending $200 on them. I LOVE the gray and yellow combo. I’ve been hooked on gray and yellow together lately, and I can see so many uses for these shoes in my work wardrobe. But, the combo of peep toes (fine for my office, but not for court, and not in any season but summer and buffer months, and not in the rain, etc.) and the price is too much for me to take the plunge. The fact that you found the brand painful seals the deal.
