Workwear Hall of Fame: Jullia Flat
July 2021 Update: There are lots of options for this shoe included in the 2021 Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale, with some colors and sizes as low as $59.90 from $99.
I was intrigued to see this flat in one of our “most-bought” roundups a few months ago (May and June!) — readers have loved Corso Como's pumps for years.
Now that they're on sale, with some styles as low as $59, it's definitely worth noting — I love the softly rounded point, the high back, and the padded footbed. Nice! Jullia Flat

I wish people would stop trying to make “BBG” happen (the name, not the candidate himself). That’s all.
I wish both the nickname and the candidate would go away.
Lol that too, but the name thing is just weird.
I admittedly thought it was Buttigieg for a hot minute (though of course I suppose that would be BGG).
So used to the service / terminals / e-mails that we just abbreviate it bbg
Uh it’s a standard abbreviation in finance? Didn’t just make it up yesterday.
This
But it’s an abbreviation for the *company*, not the man. Calling a human being by his company’s stock exchange code feels demeaning and even vaguely anti-Semitic. And I’m no fan of Bloomberg personally or politically.
I think that the company is privately held. When I am a billionaire and my name is interchangeable with my company, maybe I’ll complain. Will probably be too busy with leisure.
Can you explain how it is anti-semetic? Not disagreeing with you at all, just trying to understand.
Uh people who aren’t in finance wouldn’t necessarily know that.
I feel like on this board it’s reasonable to think it is known. Possibly no more than this, but at least this.
I don’t. OMG there are professions outside BigLaw and Finance, honest.
Yeah, I had no idea what it meant and when I searched for it I just got results for Bikini Body Guide.
Me too!
Ha same here!
Anyone know if there’s free return shipping for US customers of Hobbs? The Hobbs website states returns are handled through Rebound but I cant tell if Rebound charges for return shipping.
Not sure, but check to see if the piece you’re eyeing is carried at Bloomingdales? They keep a pretty good selection in stock online and in stores.
PayPal will refund return shipping on most purchases if you use it to pay.
Don’t know, but enchanted to find out that Hobbs has started a petites range!!
Can we talk about Warren and Klobuchar from a clothing / wardrobe perspective (and not a politics one)? I would like to hear what a group of intelligent, sophisticated women think of their fashion choices. And yes, I realize we are not talking about the guys like this.
No thoughts really. Women politicians are just meh-to-awful, fashion-wise. Part of it is that men’s suits tend to look generally good if they fit well. Find a middle-aged woman who is neither tall nor svelte and if she looks fantastic, I’d buy whatever she has on. I hate to say it, but Nancy Pelosi (rich, tiny) is about the best-dressed woman politician out there, and that’s either a great triumph or a crime. Internationally, the queen of Spain (50ish mom of two) always nails it; she is tall and trim and wears a lot of Boss. The only really striking recent US political women I can think of are Michelle Obama (tall, knows how to dress her shape) and Condoleeza Rice (tall, thin), and that is mainly for the picture of her in a long coat with tall boots.
Warren’s black pants/top and colorful jacket uniform probably means she has less things to worry about on the campaign trail. Its not the most fashionable, but she feels very relatable in it. She’s probably also comfortable in it, and it looks appropriate for a woman of her age.
I personally like Klobuchar’s sheath dresses more, but they probably aren’t as comfy as Warren’s pants. The bright colors do say “lady candidate.” There’s not many venues where bright colors like that work, but she’s in one of them now.
I like Elizabeth Warren’s colorful jackets. She always looks stylish but she has a great body, especially for her age, so I think a lot of it is that she wears her clothes well.
Amy Klobuchar is on the frumpy side, imo, but I think a lot of that is due to her shape which is of course totally normal, but not so normal for a women whose outfits we’re scrutinizing, since that’s generally limited to celebrities who tend to be very slender and often pretty tall.
While we’re talking about perfectly normal middle age figures, I think Klobuchar might look great in a sari, and I often wish Western fashion offered something equally flattering. (To be very clear, I don’t think she should wear a sari.)
I wish we had some national dress that is long and flowy. Judicial robe? Choir robe? Clerical garb? There is a reason some people always look put-together.
I am of Scottish heritage and would vote for a long kilted skirt in winter, with a turtleneck and tall flat boots. But that’s only a winter look. Long silk caftan, like a cross between Mrs. Roper and . . . someone very glam?
This is so weird
Nope. This is sexist and dumb.
Well, this is a fashion blog for high powered woman. If there ever was a place appropriate to talk about it, this is it.
I like both of their wardrobes, but it bothers me that Warren wears black + a colorful blazer during debates and other events where everyone else (both men and women) are wearing full suits. Black + a colorful blazer is what she wears day to day on the campaign trail and is really business casual attire. It is just too informal for settings where everyone else is wearing a suit. (Also, I don’t think she would have to wear a full suit to be equivalently formal, but like a sleeved dress or something would also do it.)
I totally agree. the black top, black pants, and colorful jacket are her uniform, but wouldn’t she look great in a sharp pantsuit with a cream blouse of some sort? Her coloring is soft, and the black is harsh on her. I suspect she loves pants, so the dress/skirt is a no go, but a great pantsuit would be awesome.
By the way, I have heard that Nancy Pelosi’s husband manages her wardrobe. She is so polished she has someone, for sure! And a fresh blow out every morning.
This is so tough for woman…
I just covet Nancy Pelosi’s jewelry collection. Come to me, bubble-gum-sized Tahitian pearls…
Me too, SA! Every time–I’m like–that is a $25,000 necklace. Pelosi’s tailoring is impeccable too–she is well-endowed on top, and everything fits just so. Sure, cuz it’s Armani and they do that for you, but still–she looks great.
I love Warren’s wardrobe choices. The look suits her. She looks good in it. I saw her at a rally, where she ran up from the back of the crowd wearing sneakers with her typical ensemble…and thought dang, that is brilliant.
That’s an interesting comment, raising the question about Warren not looking formal enough on the debate stage, but to me she looked good.I love how she is showing that this is what “presidential” can look like.
Nina Mclemore (sp?) for the Warren bright colored jackets. I am not wild about them because they seem a bit shapeless to me.
I think it’s so great to see multiple women on the debate stage. I do share the thought they look less formal the men, but maybe they are worried about looking like flight attendants if they do classic matching skirt suits?
Thank you all. You’ve put your finger on what I was thinking but couldn’t articulate about Elizabeth Warren’s black-column-with-blazer look. I think maybe it’s because she doesn’t tend to wear “ornamentation” (necklace, scarf, etc.) and because the pants tend to be narrow, that it tends to look a wee bit more casual than the others, though still well within professional norms IMO. And yeah, Nancy Pelosi really knows her stuff style-wise.
I’m in search of a new lunch bag. Any recommendations? I’m looking for something fairly big, as I’m often toting a large plastic container or a couple of smaller Pyrex dishes. I also have a travel coffee mug that I take home daily to wash. If the bag is insulated, great, but it’s not essential because I have access to a fridge at work.
Seriously, some days I feel like I’m hauling my entire kitchen to work because a) I like to eat my own food, from a health standpoint; b) I do hard morning workouts, so I need a decent amount of real food, not snacky stuff; and c) I work in a food desert with no restaurants within a reasonable walking distance.
I bring my lunch in a Trader Joe’s canvas bag and also feel like I frequently am bringing my whole fridge with me.
For many years, I used a plastic grocery bag, which was perfectly functional and very spacious. I now have a Built neoprene tote that is much more attractive and still fairly roomy.
Haha, I did that for a few years before I started using reusable totes. One time I was embarrassed when a partner at my firm asked me, “What is that, trash?” Lol. He had a point.
I just use a reusable shopping bag.
+1. I get at least 2-3 free totes of varying sizes from work events every year. I feel no particular need to buy another Thing to tote my lunch in.
I have this one and like it a lot!

I like that! I may just add it to my collection as it looks much roomier than the other lunch bags I have, which seem to be designed for a 10-year-old’s appetite.
You can pack quite a bit in it. I usually have my lunch in this bowl (which I also love, love: https://wandpdesign.com/products/the-porter-bowl – i wouldn’t put soup in it, but it’s sealed nicely enough to keep salads/grain bowls/meals contained without spillage), a round container with yogurt/granola & fruit and room to spare for sundry snacks. I also like that you can roll down the top to make it smaller as I eat through my day. Because it’s a insulated, the inside can get a little damp if you have a lot of condensation happening but I just turn it inside out for a little while and it’s fine. Very easy to clean the inside.
I have a few different ones depending on what I’m bringing that day – especially the size or shape of the container if it’s something I batch cooked. I typically grow the insulated lunch bag plus any extras into my gym bag, potentially inside of a canvas tote.
You could just go to Whole Foods and buy one of their reusable bags. I have 3 and they all work for me, tho they are to heavy to carry at once.
I currently use a reusable sandwich bag (similar to what my kid uses). It seems to do the job. If I needed something more I’d get a bento and a slipcase for it. I would just lose a lunch bag.
I think this is the one I got at Costco a few years ago – it expands to almost double the size but collapse back down to normal lunch box size. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RR78KS6/ref=twister_B07D9WGVZB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
may I suggest a Baggu? https://baggu.com/products/duck-bag-eucalyptus
There are tons of options for less than $20 at like TJ Maxx, I have a largish insulated tote by Built NYC called the “lex” and the “bistro”. If you want a fancier version Hydroflask makes a pricey one.
You might want to search “insulated tote.” I do like having a proper lunch bag.The $20 every 5 ish years is worth it to me
