  1. Review: I ordered both dresses on here – I kept the one on the top right, but be warned, it’s thinner than it looks (I recommend shapewear if you’re sensitive about that) and you have to keep an eye on the lining so it doesn’t pull up and make the dress pucker on the bottom. I sent back the dress on the bottom right. The fold at the waist felt rather awkward on the bottom, and I thought it looked not very well thought out. FWIW, I’m a curvy medium. Sufficient chest and hip room in both of them. I hope this helps!

    1. That fold on the waist in the picture did look a bit odd to me, and seems to draw the eye to the tummy. Thanks for your review!

    2. I have the dress on the bottom and find it very flattering. BUT I have a flat stomach. If you have any tummy at all, it probably wouldn’t be flattering.

  2. Threadjack already:
How much advance/lead time do you prefer for a conference call?

Just got a notice for 9am tomorrow with China (i.e. a major call, very difficult to reschedule). No earlier “heads up, we’re trying for a call at X time”.

I’m peeved but reorganizing my schedule anyway. Wondering how others would feel about this.

    1. Are you located in the US, I presume? Not sure if you’re east coast, west, or somewhere in between, but for your Chinese counterparts, it’s probably 7-9 pm. Be thankful you got a reasonable timeslot.

I’m on big int’l conference calls all the time. It’s very difficult to schedule these, and usually people in Asia or Europe have to suck it up because someone in NY or LA (e.g. The Partner, or equivalent) doesn’t want to get up early/go home late. It may be annoying, but given how many things need to come together to make this happen, I’d be gracious about it. If you know in advance that these calls are going to be scheduled, but aren’t part of the scheduling process – maybe b/c your asst does it – I’d just be proactive and ask him/her to give you a heads up next time on the approximate timing.

      1. Thanks for the feedback.

Nope, no advance notice at all. I don’t have an assistant either.

I’m on the East coast and have been doing China calls for the past few weeks, but all at night my time, so its been pretty easy to handle. This last-minute, no-notice, cancel-everything-else crap just annoys me to no end. I’m not particularly fond of this client either, so I’m sure that adds to my irritation.

        1. If they’ve given advance notice in the past, blame it on Chinese New Year. They likely weren’t in the office earlier this week.

    2. Well, in Asia, everyone’s pet peev is how Americans rarely bother to even check with folk outside the US and merrily schedule telcos at our midnight or worse! I had a colleague schedule a telcon with me at 2am on Saturday!

      And that wasn’t a one-off…..

That said, you did get a reasonable time. Let them know if it doesnt work for you but if it is that important, be prepared for them not to reschedule.

  3. I have the suit jacket pictured. I like it a lot, I have all three pieces to the suit.

  4. Just ordered the red button up shirt and light brown jacket, good deals. There goes my “no shopping till spring” resolve !

  5. can I ask – what’s their sizing like? one of their dresses is made of cotton spandex, and I’m between a 6 and an 8, I normally take 8 as it’s easier to have it tailored down, but I’ve never bought anything there so wondering. can anyone help?

    1. I’m 5’8″/145 lbs. and I consistently wear an 8/M there. I’m smaller on top than bottom, and I usually buy jackets in a 6. HTH!

    2. I’m similar to anon, but it’s my shoulders that are big. I wear an 8 all around. With dresses, I’d say go with an 8. Recently discovered I’m a 4 at LOFT. Anyone else think LOFT has weird sizing?

      1. Loft sizing usually runs very large for me. I am reliably an XS-S/2-4 there, and an S-M/4-6 everywhere normal. (Wait, except for J. Crew. I wear a lot of 2s and 4s at J. Crew, too, which is so perplexing.)

    3. 5’3″ formerly 117, now 122. my old pants were 0/2 at limited. Just bought some tops there in small. I ordered a dress in a 4, it fit in the waist, but was a little big in the bust and hips. I’m about 36-29-38, I think, but Express/Brooks Brothers/Banana I’m a 4R/4P/6P and occasionally a 2R/2P.

  6. i’m debating getting this with the 50% off frenzy

any comments? I’m thinking red, one of my fave colors. I own probably 60-70% grey/black suits; 30-40% brown/taupe suits, so I don’t think I want black.

As far as profesisonal bags go, I have a pleather black tote from kohls, a black nylon franco sarto tote i used in law school, and black coach canvas attache bag.

    1. I like red bags. It looks like a nice work bag.

As to your below question, I think it’s a know your office situation. Also depends on your actual office. For instance, I have my own office so I dont think much of taking off my jacket inside and I just put it back on to go outside. If someone comes in to visit me, my jacket is hanging on the back of my chair and I kind of feel like they’re on my turf so whatever. I don’t know if I would feel differently if we had a bullpen/cubicle set up. But generally, I say go for it.

  7. more concerns on what i want to order/general wardrobe concern. Are sleeveless shirts okay for small/medium firms? I’m not super svelte but don’t have flabby arms (and shave my pits on the regular.) Also, I tend to get warm so I frequently take off my jacket/cardigan.

    1. it’s a know your office question. If you’re planning on stocking up on some basics before starting work, I’d buy tops with short sleeves (like the yellow one above) instead.

  8. I thought I had learned my lesson in the past and I seriously sized down, but I’m still disappointed with my Talbots red hanger order:

Purchased the Donegal tweet suit – skirt fits fine, but the ruffle in the back is wider than I had imagined. Jacket fit perfectly through the bust, but was too large in the waist – that I could have dealt with, but the arms are also huge and dowdy. I thought about keeping the skirt, but I don’t love it, so the whole thing is going back.

Purchased the flannel tuxedo jacket in hot pink – sized down, still way too big. I have medium-to-narrow shoulders, but all the jackets I buy at Talbots make me look like a linebacker. No green left on the website, but I’m going to call and see if they can track one down in a few sizes smaller and exchange.

Double faced wool sheath – sized down, and it’s a tad too big. I like the feel of the wool, and living in a cold climate, it would definitely keep me warm in the winter. I’m going to explore getting it taken in. I knew it probably wouldn’t work, but since it wasn’t final sale yet, I got a doublefaced wool jacket to see if I could make it a suit, and that’s going back.

It wasn’t all a loss – I’m keeping an oatmeal 3/4 sleeve merino wool cardigan, a black sparkle sweater (will be perfectly office-appropriate on casual Friday), a pair of dark wash ankle length jeans, a bright pink suede belt (a little big, but easily fixed with a leather hole punch) and a pair of black leather driving gloves.

  9. THANK YOU for the suit update! I’ve been looking for a suit so I can attend these random career fairs around campus and I (hope) this is perfect. It’s not black but I think it should still be good, and I can definitely wear the pieces individually a my job.
