Yes. This wallet is A Lot of Look. But I think everyone among us knows someone who will absolutely love this wallet, even if it isn't yourself.
For my $.02, I'm always a fan of a colorful wallet, sticking out in the depths of a dark bag and bringing a bit of levity to whatever boring errand I'm bringing the wallet out for. This one is particularly, um, colorful (the Nordstrom page even describes it as having “a cacophony of vivid animal prints and a golden wash”) — but people seem to love the print as well as the functionality of the wallet itself.
(If you like the functionality but not the print, Dillards and Brahmin have a few other color options, including a nice vivid purple and a dusky blue. On the other hand, if you love the print but want a bag instead of a wallet, Nordstrom has a number of different shapes and sizes!)
The wallet is $195 at Nordstrom and will arrive before Christmas.
(Psst: I just did a mini-hunt for wallets in a variety of prices…)

I love the outside. IDK what all of the pockets are for inside? I worry it’s turn it into a very Costanza wallet with receipts and shopping lists and such in no time. It is so extra that it makes up for my wearing so much black this time of year.
Anonymous
The pockets are for cash, coins, cards, ID, and receipts? Like what a wallet has always been for? You must be very young and only use Apple pay? Did you watch Seinfeld with your parents or to be ironic,.!

Are there any good fashion magazines out there? I used to get a lot of catalogs at home and also Vogue (until I started hate reading too many articles about trust-funders) and W (stopped b/c too many images were just not kid appropriate). I feel like people get fashion from insta but social media is a too easy of a way to waste a lot of time. I just want to resent my fashion mindset off of the Athleta catalog I’ve adopted (and love, but we’re going back to the office). In Style?
anon
Ehhh, if you’re looking for office fashion, you’re going to have better luck on the interwebs than you will with InStyle.
Anon
In my city, there is a woman who is very stylish. She has an Insta. She has stylist services she can do for you. I need something like that, but also about 50% less of it, if that makes sense. “Fashion, but make it Office.”
Anon
I used to get this from youlookfab, but I don’t know if she’s as office-y as she used to be.
What I have mostly done for the last few years is rely on this place and just a handful of labels (like mm la fleur) to let me know what I should be wearing to the office.
I feel like the pandemic has really thrown office fashion to the wind. It’s the wild wild west out there. Wear what you like. I’m WFH full time now and have been struggling to be presentable enough for the unexpected zoom, but comfortable enough to actually get some work done. My big thing has been that I don’t want to wear makeup any more. I have a nude-ish lipstick and a hair brush in my desk, and other than that, people will have to get used to my eyes with no mascara or liner/shadow. That and my rosacea-red nose. Call me Rudolph.
anon
I can’t figure out what YLF is anymore. I used to visit to keep an eye on trends, but so much of it just doesn’t appeal in any way or is completely incompatible with my lifestyle. Guess I’m too basic. I stopped following that site when it became the same Angie acolytes posting outfits and nitpicking the very smallest details.

IDK but I just popped over there and saw her post about gentleherd.com cashmere, and that is so right up my alley, I’m thinking I need to check in there more often. Just sent two links to my husband for xmas/birthday ideas. (January baby here)

Anon
Hi Sis, I posted below!
Anon
I kind of love the green tooled leather alternative that’s showing up in the scroll bar (at least for me, I’m never sure how targeted these are) but then again I’m a sucker for tooled leather. Realistically, though, I don’t think I’d order this version. I’d probably go with a brand known for high quality tooled leather like Patricia Nash.
anon
I don’t know if anyone is still shopping for photo gifts, but I wanted to give a shoutout to Mpix. I’ve ordered from them before and loved the quality. I placed an order Tuesday that included some family pictures for the grandparents. I didn’t expect to get them before Christmas because I didn’t pay for expedited shipping. To my surprise, they arrived THIS MORNING. So, if you’re running out of time and want something nicer than you can get at a discount store, I’d highly recommend it. Not a shill, just a big fan.
anon a mouse
Yes their service is fantastic. We’ve done Christmas cards there for years. Their site could use some work (it’s not as slick as shutterfly for example) but they really shine in the photo processing, and they are super fast.
Tina
When you introduce yourself in a work meeting, particularly to new people or to clients, how much background do you give?
Current Title? Current title plus a brief mention of your specialty? Degrees or certifications?
anon
I take my lead from the meeting organizer, but usually just name and title.
Cat
+1, if there is a round of introductions, I take my cues from the leader. Typically name and area, not specific title, which would get boring and arcane really fast. So it’s usually something like “Cat Lastname, have been with Company’s legal department for about X years.”
Ribena
Depends entirely on the context. Am I one of a bunch of people from my org on the call? What’s the client’s knowledge level about my specialism? What am I there to talk about?
My standard intro would be “Hi, I’ve been here 5 years in a variety of roles across X and Y; I’m now combining those in this role in Z where I’m focusing on ABC.”
Mrs. Claus
Should I be annoyed or flattered or indifferent to the fact that I’m being hounded by recruiters for arguably good gigs and letting me know that the employer is specifically looking for a woman? I work in a white man’s world and have always enjoyed being memorable as one of the only women around. The commentary from the recruiters is sometimes overt – they really want a woman or “diversity” in the seat – and sometimes it’s a veiled “they’re being highly selective about who they interview. wink, nudge.” Sometimes it’s one of the first things out of their mouth when talking to me about roles I have no interest in or I’m not a great fit for, in my opinion.
I don’t know why it’s starting to wear on me that my value feels sometimes distilled down to my gender. I mean, I’m damn good at what I do and I can do these roles. I’m at a prestigious firm and the name of the firm alone has gotten people who were otherwise not great at their jobs promotions in to their next role. I just don’t like the feeling of “hey, you’re a chick. come work for us, we’ll figure out if you can actually do the work later” that I get from some of these inbounds.
Or is this just ridiculous of a reaction and I should get over it and enjoy the fact that this makes me a highly desirable candidate, despite the fact I’m not really looking for a new gig?
anon a mouse
If you are otherwise qualified for the job, run with it and up your salary requirement significantly.
anon
This would make me stabby because it seems clear that they aren’t interested in diversity for the right reasons (aka it makes the company better) but instead because they want to trot out that they are woke. No thank you. I’m not interested in being the token woman/minority so they can clap themselves on the back about how progressive they are.
Anon
Exactly. They should want to hire women and POC because it will make the company better, not because they want a token woman or POC in leadership.
Anon
Would really bother me. I’m not just two X chromosomes.
Anon
We’re half the population! If they want a pat on the back for deigning to talk to us, how bad is it there?
I want to be a kick-ass X. Not a kick-ass woman X. If they aren’t talking to me for my other significant attributes, if that’s not even part of the initial discussion, I would be concerned if they are valuing the right things, will pay me for them, or just hiring really bad recruiters. Cringe.
Anon
I get that you don’t want to be a token.
But I’ve done some work in D&I over the last few years, and you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If we don’t have enough women in the c-suites, we need to recruit more women. One way to do that is to ask recruiters to bring us a “diverse” slate of candidates, so the white men currently in the c-suite can’t say, as they always say, “we’d love to hire more women/people of color, but we didn’t get any qualified candidates.” And they do always say this.
We’re fighting unconscious bias here, where the men currently in these decision making positions think the ideal candidate for a role is someone who’s kinda like them. Maybe they don’t think “white, male, upper middle class” but when they see someone like themselves, they prefer that person over others.
I’d say keep taking those calls, remind them you’re qualified regardless of your gender if they bring it up, and be glad that companies out there are looking to improve their stats.
anon
I am the stabby anon-from above. I don’t have any issue with companies seeking more diverse applicant pools. I think that’s great. My issue was with the way it’s being presented to the OP.
Anon
“I don’t know why it’s starting to wear on me that my value feels sometimes distilled down to my gender.”
This is an annoying thing! Don’t feel weird or bad about feeling that way.
Anon
I’m in m0d forever, but please take whatever opportunities come your way that you’re interested in. We need more women advancing through the ranks!
Anon
I guess I don’t think they’re sincere about advancing me if they just want me present to tick a box as “female.” Guys aren’t hired for being guys and don’t worry about this. We do. And when we’re hired for being women, it seems like we’re not there on merit and therefore don’t deserve full inclusion in the whole slate of opportunities. I am generally the only woman on my deals but I have never worried that I’m perceived as not 100% deserving my seat at the table. Under these circumstances, I’d have some serious discussions given how it was pitched. “Come be our token woman” doesn’t sound like a long-term plan, more like a sort-term hire with no real path forward to “senior token woman” and “executive token vice president” and then “token board member.” I kid, but I want them to be inviting me to their golf outings and client events and all of that.
Anon
Guys do get hired for being guys. That’s the problem!
Anon
I just read a great thriller called All Her Little Secrets written by and about a Black female lawyer and this exact thing happens to the protagonist at the beginning of the book and let’s just say…things get bad for her. So I would say RUN! :) But in all seriousness, this would be really offensive to me and I don’t think I’d want to work at a place like that.
Anon
> But I think everyone among us knows someone who will absolutely love this wallet, even if it isn’t yourself.
This made me laugh, because my sister would absolutely love this. She loves prints and bling and colors. Her masks (if she wears them, which is another story) are covered with rhinestones. She would love this. But she would equally love a $20 version from Target. I think the $195 price point for something gaudy is for a very narrow market.
Anon
I don’t think this is actually that gaudy. It’s a wallet, it’s small. If you had something like this on a tote, sure.
Anon
Yeah I don’t understand the discussion about this. It’s a small wallet with a colorful print. I don’t find it tacky at all.
pugsnbourbon
IMO, the purple and blue faux-croc versions look tacky. This one seems fine to me.

Hello to those of you who don’t carry handbags! I am about to give mine up due to the number of purse snatching incidents in my neighborhood/grocery shopping area. I’ve been going to the store with my cell phone and just my drivers license and wallet in my coat pocket, but I don’t wear a coat year round. What do you use to carry your crap around that isn’t a purse? Most of my clothes have decorative pockets, if they have pockets at all.
In warmer weather, I want to be able to carry my rx sunglasses case and a lip balm or lip stick in addition to phone and cards.
Anon
What about a crossbody purse? Seems like it would be much more difficult to steal.
Anon
A woman got dragged by her crossbody in the trader joe’s parking lot, so I’m really going no purse here.

anon
Something tells me that the choice of handbag is really not the issue here …
Anon
Go ahead and be smug, but purse thefts are on the rise everywhere. It’s a grab and go crime – someone is waiting in a car, they use the credit cards immediately to buy things they can easily re-sell, and then they throw the purse away. It’s mostly about opportunity.
anon
I’m not being smug. What I’m saying is that if the area is that crime-ridden, just changing purses is not going to keep you from getting attacked or mugged or whatever.
pugsnbourbon
I wear a fanny pack sling-style across my shoulders, with the bag part in the front. It’d be pretty hard to snatch off of me. And I don’t buy clothes without pockets anymore.
Anon
in nyc these are cut with razors
Anon
I wear a cross body and usually keep my hand on the strap when I’m walking. I started holding into it when I was living in a purse snatching heavy area in Eastern Europe and have continued because it’s a comfortable place to keep my hand.
Anon
+1 I’ve always carried my purse like this everywhere anyway.
Anonymous
I have a wallet with a strap from Tumi that is like a crossbody. I got it a few years ago, but many brands carry something similar. It fits in my winter coat’s pocket or in a sweatshirt pocket–but more often than not, I just leave it strapped under my coat. I think if you’re wearing a crossbody, you are less of a target (they can’t just snatch and keep running), which is why so many travel purses are this style. If you’re looking to carry something with sunglasses, it sounds like maybe a travel purse may be more what you are looking for (I just keep sunglasses in my car or they are in my hand or on my head usually.
Anonymous
My style is most like the Belden, but you may find the Katy better.
Anon
Phone in back jeans pocket, carry wallet. Leave the rest of your crap in your car.
Cat
Do you need your wallet? I’d take a single credit card and ID or even skip those if your grocery store takes Apple Pay. Then all you have to do is carry your phone in your hand.
You’re not getting away with magically storing a sunglasses case in a shallow pocket. I tuck my sunglasses in my shirt c-ll-r when shopping. And just leave the lip balm at home for a grocery run.
Anon
Same here. Most of the year I can keep lip balm in my car without it melting, I put it in the center console. I wear my sunglasses on my head or hooked into my neckline.
One of my closest friends was robbed at gunpoint in a Target parking lot a few years back. Her bag (which wasn’t even “designer,” it was something she’d bought at a craft fair for about $200) apparently made her a target. Since then I have a “wallet case” on my phone, and just carry that when I go out, especially at night. I only carry a purse if my husband or son (who are tall, beefy individuals) are with me, and only during the day.
anon
ID and CC in a pocket on the back of my phone. Sunglasses on head (way riskier with rx though) and chapstick in pocket (also risky bc washer dryer). I live on the edge.
Anon
Haha, I know exactly what you mean about living on the edge with chapstick in pocket!
anon
I never learn!
Anon
In colder weather I’d wear my handbag under my jacket.
Anon
Sunglasses on my head, lip balm in a pocket, no cards or wallet (Apple Pay/tap pay), carry phone or put in pocket (in SF, same issue as you, but but it’s colder so phone is usually in a Uniqlo vest pocket even in the summer).
Anon
Also, iWatch in the summer could be an option

Baking question: My kids are begging to have cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. But I sure as heck will not get up early to make them, and Christmas Eve is out of the question, too (already cooking for a family gathering). If I made the rolls this weekend and froze them, could I take them out of the freezer on the night of Christmas Eve and let them rise in the refrigerator overnight? Seriously don’t know why I can’t figure this out, but the logistics of rolls on Christmas morning have always flummoxed me!
Anon
Do they need to be gourmet or can you just make the pilsbury ones? If my kids go to the grocery store with one of us, 9 times out of 10 they’re begging to put a tube of those in the cart.
Anon
https://www.pillsbury.com/products/cinnamon-rolls/grands-flaky-original-cinnamon-rolls
these are the ones I’m talking about. They’re super easy and not bad. My kids first had them at auntie’s house and now they’re hooked for life.
anon
Selfishly, I really hate the taste of the pillsbury rolls. If I’m going to have a roll, it’s gonna be homemade.
pugsnbourbon
The pillsbury ones aren’t my favorite, either. If I wanted to partake as well, I’d find whichever ones in the frozen aisle looked ideal and go with that.
Anon
They’re not my favorite either, but if we’re just trying to keep everything together and keep kids happy, they’re a great choice!
Anonymous
I’d just use a Pillsbury pre-made roll and pop it in the oven. Not worth risking weird frozen taste or texture when there is such an easy alternative. And they’re good. I actually prefer over my moms. If you want to get fancy, through some toasted pecans on top.
Anan
I usually make Christmas eve/overnight rise in the fridge, but I think if I did the freezer, i would just overnight rise on the counter as long as you don’t keep the house at 80 degrees or anything.
Anon
Trader Joe’s cinnamon rolls are amazing.
Jules
I was just coming on here to suggest Trader Joe’s cinnamon rolls. They’re easy and really good (and, as a bonus for me at least, happen to be vegan).
Anon
I have made them and frozen them before baking according to the instructions in this recipe with success: https://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/best-cinnamon-rolls/ . I let them rise at room temp for the second rise, not in the fridge.
Anonymous
Stella Parks has pretty detailed directions on how to make them in advance:

Not that Anne, the other Anne.
Rhodes Anytime Cinnamon Rolls. Put into cold oven while still frozen, turn oven on. 30-35 minutes later — cinnamon rolls.
Senior Attorney
Yes, you can do this. In fact, you can let them rise and then freeze them.
Anon
I really like the ones from Ikea, and the Trader Joe’s refrigerated ones are decent too. My husband really likes the ones from the Great Harvest bread chain, if you have one near you.
I’ve also made them several times (apparently I’m a big cinnamon roll fan!) and it works fine to do the first rise in the fridge overnight, but it still takes a fair amount of time the next morning to warm up and do a second rise and then bake them. You could also consider baking them completely ahead of time, freezing, and then thawing overnight, warming, and frosting them Christmas morning, but I’ve never tried that. Most sweet breads freeze well, though, as long as they’re not super gooey.
Anon
I just googled the baking and then freezing, and King Arthur suggests parbaking, freezing, and then finishing the bake in the morning. Someone else just posted the link below. If you really don’t have a lot of time in the morning, do that, as the second rise with cold dough and then baking can take a while and you have to keep checking on it.
Senior Attorney
Everything I have tried from King Arthur has turned out great so I wouldn’t hesitate to do what they suggest.
Nesprin
Cinnamon rolls take 2 rises, a general bread rise, and a post-cinammon filling rolled and put in pan rise. Most recipies call for the overnight rise on the first one, but life is so much easier if you do the overnight on the second rise. You’ll need to go easier on the yeast than most recipes ask for, and keep your dough cold so it doesn’t over proof.
Make the dough at lunch time day before, and let rise in a not too warm kitchen (Alternative: buy a premade pizza dough at a store, and skip the first rise). PM, punch down, roll out, cover with cinnamon butter goop, roll up, cut and put loosely into pan. Pan goes into fridge. In the am, pull out, let warm up a bit, then toss in oven.
For more specific recipes, smitten kitchen has great recipes.

Annies red label taste homemade little effort.
white paint recs?
We recently purchased a house and I’m looking to paint the entire interior. The floors are a light terracotta/orange tile, and we have mid-tone brown furniture in most of the rooms. I’m thinking I’d like to paint everything a nice warm white with blue undertones, and bring in color with large wall prints, throw pillows, curtains, maybe rugs, etc.
What are your favorite whites that won’t blind us and won’t feel like a sterile hospital? We have huge windows all over the house, so tons of light and additional colors coming in from outside. I’m also debating about whether I should do an accent wall in each room to give some visual breaks. If I do that, I want to go with blues and teals, preferably jewel tones in that palate. So if you’ve got favorite blues/teals, I’ll take those as well!
Anon
When you said blue I thought how beautiful blue would be with those oranges and mid browns, like a cornflower blue – ala Van Gogh and Georgia O’Keefe – so though I don’t have a specific white to recommend, I recommend you get one that looks great with blue accessories. I lean toward a creamy white for that inviting, hygge, southwestern-ish vibe.
Anon
A warm white won’t have blue undertones.
Get thee to Maria Killam’s website and then get BM’s sample sheet of its white family and spend some time and then get 18″ sample boards painted in the finish that you want. Experiment with those. I like BM Pale Oak, which isn’t white but a light cream. BM has more white options though that are very pretty.
Anonymous
+ 1 to you not understanding the concept here, a white with blue undertones is by definition cool. We used BM Distant Grey in a place with a lot of light and a lot of existing warm wood. It’s a crisp white with blue undertones that looks good with many blues and cools down the wood box effect of all the wood. I would get samples of whites and blues and settle on the entire scheme up front, as the warm wood can make this challenging.
Anon
I like Benjamin Moore chalk white. It has no yellow tones, but it’s not blinding white either.
Anon
bm cloud white. Claire paint

I am really happy with Sherwin Williams Greek Villa but it does not have blue undertones.
