These pointed toe flats are all the rage these days, and it's easy to see why — saturated colors, a teeny tiny heel, and a chic loafer look. Nordstrom has a few colors, as does Bergdorf Goodman, but Net-a-Porter has the motherlode: tons of different styles and colors of the shoe in all its pointy-toed, loafer goodness. The pictured shoe is $395. Nicholas Kirkwood Pointed Toe Loafer Here are a couple of lower-priced options (here and here) and another one here that's available in narrow, regular, and wide sizes. Reposting from late in the morning thread (thank you Bonnie for your reply!)
I just bought a “kingfisher blue” Hobbs sheath dress.
Please play stylist for me, and make suggestions at to what to wear with this colour. Blazers/bag/shoes.
Thank you!
desi inside and out
I have a similarly blue dress. I wear it with nude shoes, white shoes, tan and occasionally black shoes. I feel like it would also go with grey.
It looks like a lovely dress.
Idea
Black.
Or white & gold. (ha!)
Or a pop of green OR a pop of red – you don’t want to look like a parrot, but 2 complementary colors together can be done.

Thanks ladies!

Eep. I’m sorry, but these look like they belong on a petite, very hairy man named Saul who pairs them with a tight white polyester suit and matching blue collared shirt (open in front of course, to let the chest hair breathe and show off the gold chain necklace). Hmm, now I want to watch Ocean’s Eleven.

Or Louis the XIV.

That’s what I was thinking as well – didn’t George III have shoes like this?
anomom
Sorry, yes, I find these to be like clown shoes.
Scully
Definitely grandma territory- maybe it’s the powder blue and the metallic heel. I think the loafers here are much cuter.

Kat, I am sorry, but here I have to agree with the other OP’s. Aside from the fact that I do NOT generaly love flat’s, haveing such pointey toe shoe’s makes me think I am seedey and/or have to use them to kill cockaroaches that go into the corner’s of my kitchen! FOOEY!
When I worked at the process server, the boss wore shoe’s that looked alot like this, but in light blue. He also chewed on a cigar that he did NOT smoke. He alway’s refered to it as a Monica Cigar, and he often scratched his private’s while cheweing on it. I knew what he was talkeing about and told him he was GROSS! He said that the ONLEY reason I was workeing there was because of my boobie’s. To this day he remind’s me of the short guy in the Taxi TV show on Chanel 114. DOUBEL FOOEY on men like that, and this guy was MARRIED!
I am so happy I am now out of there and workeing for the manageing partner where I am NOT looked at as the company sex object. The worst thing I face is Frank’s ooogeling, which is mild by comparieson to what I have gone thru in college, law school and the supeenie firm. TRIPEL FOOEY!

I don’t love this shoe, but I do like colored loafers in general. I busted out some that are probably (definitely) seasonally inappropriate, but I just needed something springy today, so coral patent it is.
la vie en bleu
i love blue shoes for some reason. Purple is my favorite color for everything else, but I think blue shoes look so cute.
Must be Tuesday
I like colored loafers, and I like the new pointy toe shape.

Love colored loafers but HATE that toe…horrors.
Boots for Boston?
Going to Boston this weekend. Is there still snow/slush on the ground such that I should wear my Sorels or would waterproof leather boots be sufficient? Thanks!
Mo
Where are you going to be? If you’re staying in the financial district or around the Common and not venturing into residential neighborhoods, you can probably make do with waterproof leather boots. Anywhere else, I’d suggest bringing your Sorels or, perhaps better, rain boots if you have them. It’s supposed to be above freezing this weekend, so it’s going to be a huge mess! The sidewalks around my house still are only one person wide and lined with 4 foot high snow banks. Everyone is still walking in the streets.

YES Bring your snow boots!!!! There is still a ton of snow everywhere and all of the sidewalks/intersections get flooded with slush if it gets above freezing.
Anon
Snow boots.
Julia
Absolutely snow boots or something waterproof. It snowed all day today, is supposed to be freezing tomorrow, and warmer over the weekend. Sidewalks and streets have not been cleared sufficiently all winter so it should be a mess. (I’m not in Boston, but Providence, same problems.) This had better be the end of this winter!

Has anyone been to Malta, and do you have recommendations? My sister and I are considering a 4-5 day trip in May (she’s currently living in Europe, I’m not, but I can’t take more time than that off work right now and I will happily deal with the jet lag).
The other option that’s been thrown out is the Scottish Highlands, but I’ve been told that’s hard to do without a car (we wouldn’t want to do a guided tour) and I’m not comfortable driving on the other side of the road.
TIA!

My family is from malta. Its super duper small so a car is definitely not necessary, however it has become increasingly expensive as the wealthy from central europe like to vacation there and everything needs to be shipped in. Its a very beautiful island though
cbackson
I spent maybe 2.5 days on Malta…I liked it, but unless you really like just hanging out on the beach, I feel like 5 days would be more time than you’d need. You could combine it with a bit of Sicily, maybe?
Gemma
I just got back two days ago from a 6 day trip to Malta. It’s very off season right now, so it was cold and empty. It has amazing historic sites and ruins dating back to 3600 bc. We got a weekly bus pass for 6.5 Euros and had a great time exploring the island.

Can we talk about designer bag purchases? How do you make the decision to splurge on a prada/fendi/YSL as opposed to sticking to rebecca minkoff/kate spade/michael kors?
I have my eye on the Prada double-zip tote and want to buy that for myself as a thirtieth birthday present (still have a couple years to save up for it). But I find myself currently yearning for a new bag once every 6-9 months now. I don’t know if that’ll stop once I splurge on something pricier in which case I would hate having a really expensive bag sitting around.
Any thoughts?
Monday
I decided to splurge on a big-ticket bag (Chloe, and a large size) when I kept finding myself so annoyed at having to replace lower-priced bags every 1-2 years. I also didn’t like owning more than one bag and trying to transfer all my stuff whenever I switched. I have never regretted buying it and really don’t pine over any other bags, although now it is 3.5 years old and I follow fashion slavishly, thus constantly being exposed to potential temptation. It was also a 30th birthday present to myself, come to think of it! Honestly, it sounds like you know yourself and you might be bored trying to stick with just the one bag. Nothing wrong with that–if I were you I’d probably stay in a price range that’s comfortable for wanting some variety.

If you want it, and you have the cash, and it’s not a negative financial decision for you…
TREAT YO SELF
Former Partner, Now In-House
I think it’s important not to live feeling like you are depriving yourself. However,…
. . . even if you have the full amount in cash, there is still a consequence. I believe it is called lost opportunity costs (by economists — I call it lost passive income). If you instead put that money into investments, it would be much more when you are 60, which comes a lot faster than you think it will.
It still may be the right decision to buy the bag, it’s just a more complex choice, as MJ says below. Every time my husband says he wants to buy me jewelry, I tell him I would rather we contribute to the IRAs or pay off more of the house. Yeah, I’m a romantic. (I scored 0 on the “gift” love language test!)
Liz
+1. Investments/passive income are freedom. Bags are bags. It’s still your choice, but just remember that there is a choice.

Whenever I want to buy what I consider to be a luxury good, I make sure that ALL of my retirement accounts are funded, emergency acct funded, and I am saving toward my LT goals (house downpayment or whatever is right for you) etc. and then, if I want to celebrate, I can buy luxury item. Exception is windfalls like bonuses, in which I buy myself something nice for working hard and then bank the bonus :)
Sydney Bristow
If you still really want the same bag a couple of years from now, I think that is a safe bet that you would really love it and use it for an extended period of time. (Plus all the caveats about financial responsibility)
Liz
Put “buy Prada bag” in your calendar for however many years in the future. Then don’t look at the bag anymore. If you still want it when your calendar entry rolls around, you can buy it! If you forgot you ever cared, then it’s probably not worth it to you.
Wildkitten
I don’t think an expensive bag will make you stop wanting new bags, but that’s okay. Can you put old bags on ThredUp and save the cash to roll into your new bag?
Bonnie
One thing to consider: do you tend to carry the same bag or swap bags frequently? If it’s the latter, a more expensive bag will not keep you from wanting a new bag in a few months.

Triple witching hour today – snow day (schools closed), work emergency and minor Jewish festival. Quadruple if you count that my spouse is traveling.

I’m undergoing a long (seemingly endless) IVF process. Nothing has actually gone wrong, but it just feels like it’s never going to end and each new step sounds like less fun than the last. I’m now prepping for a medicated/programmed frozen embryo transfer, which mean bc pill, abdominal injections and then the dreaded progesterone injections WITH THE GIANT NEEDLE.
I want to equip myself to deal with this as best as possible after an incredibly anxious/upset first half of the cycle through retrieval. Thinking about starting meditation, strictly adhering to at least minimal daily exercise and focusing on eating healthy (productive for a hopefully future pregnancy and makes me feel like I can control something). Also considering rewarding myself with a weekly massage when allowed from my bonus. What have you all done to get through this (or other overwhelming health issue)? I actually have had bouts with chronic illnesses, but this is more acute/emotional.
TIA!

You are so smart to think of how to take care of yourself during this long process. In similar situations, yoga is really helpful for me. You also might think of adding acupuncture into the mix. It’s often recommended for fertility, but I also find it helpful as time for reflection.
RR
You are doing the right thing. Take care of yourself. You’ll come out the other side. It helped me to think of it as very temporary.
FWIW
Much love! I’ve been going through a very different, but personally stressful, journey towards pregnancy/parenthood.
The biggest thing that has helped me is positive visualization. I personally picture myself holding baby in my arms and smiling with friends.
OP
Thank you all – I really appreciate your responses, especially since almost nobody in my real life knows.
FWIW, I’ll be thinking of you!
Ivf
Don’t know if you’re still checking this thread but I’d second acupuncture. It’s been shown to help Ivf rates and is relaxing at the very least
Also you can ask your doc about progesterone suppositories Vs the shots. I’m not sure what goes into the choice of protocol but I wasn’t even offered the needle.
Best of luck!!!
vindicated
Yesterday, I called out two colleagues who weren’t doing a report properly (by emailing them and cc’ing their superior) since they’ve continued to make this mistake even though I’ve corrected them multiple times before. They are more junior than me and thought I was being overly critical. In fact, they teased me mercilessly last night and all day today and said they “forgave” me for being overly critical. Then this morning, my boss (who outranks their superior and knew nothing of the situation), called them out on not doing the report properly. They panicked and came running to me for help. I know this is small-minded and petty of me, but GOODNESS it feels good to be vindicated. Overly critical? I think not. Just do your job properly.

+1 Amen. Maybe this will encourage them to take your feedback more seriously in the future (if not, they’re dumb as posts).
MissVinNYC
I feel your pain. It does feel good to know you were right. I think you were frustrated and wanted them to finally “get”it. And I agree, maybe this will encourage them to shape up and do it correctly in the future so the head boss doesn’t make them look bad again.
Asideralis
I actually really love these shoes in black! The powder blue colour is just weird, though. Maybe it’s because I abhor pastels.
MissVinNYC
I agree, I have them in black and they look great. The powder blue color does them no justice.
