Coffee Break: Scheila Pumps

nine west scheila pumpsBlock heels often get a bad rap as being grandma heels, and I'll be honest: I can see it a lot of the time! These heels look like they walk the perfect line between being sleek and yet also on trend, though — and they come in SO many different color options if you like the shape you're almost certain to find a color you like as well. Oh, and bonus: they're affordable. They're $20-$89 in a zillion different colors, prints and sizes at various sites, including Amazon, Lord & Taylor, Nine West, Zappos, DSW, Nordstrom, and more. 1. Small housekeeping comment, but does anyone else wish that the afternoon coffee break threads came earlier in the day? I feel like I could do without three topics, one of which is sometimes just a “previously on…” that doesn’t generate new comments, but I find myself wishing the coffee breaks were earlier because the morning threads become a bit much to scroll through but because the coffee breaks are posted around 4 or even later, a lot of people on the east coast will be busy wrapping up their day at this point and so there won’t be as many comments. OTH, I fully realize that for people not on east coast time, this may be better later in the day so really am just curious.

    1. Agreed, didn’t the Coffee Break used to get posted around 3-3:30? I feel like that’s a good time for both coasts – it’s lunchtime for the west and a nice afternoon break for the east. I don’t get why they’re so late now.

      1. I am happy with 3 p’osts a day, and do NOT mind if the so called afternoon p’ost come’s late b/c I am useueally so busy, I am onley getting to it after I am home, like right now (7:40 pm). If everyone at the HIVE worked as hard as me, we all could retire at age 50, but we would NOT have babie’s, and I would rather have babie’s at this point. Yes I would turn all of this away for a baby, rather then workeing so hard each and every day and night, even if I now AM a named partner at my law firm. FOOEY on all of this work. As a result, I have to work every day between 9:00 and 6:00 pm, with an hour break for lunch. It is very diffucult to bill 7900 hours a year w/o spending time at home at night on my billeings. DOUBEL FOOEY! So Kat, please continue to do your p’osts late if you want, so I can respond at home as I get bored from billeings. YAY!!!!

    2. Chicagoan here and yes, I agree! I feel like they used to be posted at 2est/1central not long ago, so there was plenty of good conversation both in the morning and afternoon.

    3. I agree. If it popped up at say, 2:30 Eastern, it would get more traction with me. The Coffee Break threads are routinely much much shorter than the morning thread, and midday, I avoid posting new topics on the morning thread because I’m never sure when the new post will go up and it will die.

I’m also curious why the post times are different every day — most blogs have them programmed to post at the exact same time so that readers have a predictable time to check in.

    4. I agree! I don’t get to comment as much on Coffee Break posts because of the timing. I’m in EST.

    5. I also prefer them earlier, as they used to be. This is from a west coast commenter.

    6. Same! I’m EST and about to leave work now…won’t log back in until tomorrow.

    7. This. Plus the morning post could be earlier as I’m sure has been said many times.

      1. I would agree with this too. Especially when they don’t post until closer to ten am EST.

          1. Yes, I’m almost surprised she doesn’t start earlier, as her website would get a lot more hits from starting earlier. Also, if the afternoon post started earlier with new threads, I suspect she would get more afternoon visits.

            But what do I know….

          2. +1. Also, in the past Kat has said that almost all posts are pre-scheduled to post automatically. Especially if it’s already done in advance, the morning post would be much better for me if it went up by 8 am or at least 9 am.

    8. I also agree. By the time I post anything on the coffee break it’s evening on the east coast and no one sees it. I don’t mind the morning post, it’s almost always up by the time I wake up, but I wish the afternoon post would go back to earlier.

        1. Oh gosh. Oh no. Noooooooooooooooo. NYC is my worst nightmare. No disrespect, but as an HSP who is easily overwhelmed, NYC is not fun. I do appreciate that you think I’m cool enough to be a New Yorker tho!

I am on the best coast in the best city, Seattle. :D

  2. I have two young kids and am dealing with managing care (assisted living and medical care) for my terminally ill parent on the other coast who recently got much worse and is on a lot of strong pain meds. The crises feel similar to the worst of biglaw, except with higher stakes. Any advice from those who have been there?

    1. I have totally been there, and recently. It’s hard and I don’t have a lot of advice that will make it less hard for you. Do you have family who live close by who can help? Can your move your parent closer to you if not?

I’m so sorry. I know how hard it is. No one really understands unless they’re in the middle of it themselves.

    2. It is the most difficult thing I have ever dealt with. Remember you HAVE to take care of yourself too. It feels like there is not enough time or energy for self-care, but it is critically important. You cannot manage care for someone else otherwise. If you can move your parent closer, or go visit for a week or two, especially as you get things set up that will help. Also, try and make the best decision with the most information you can get, and then move on. Second-guessing (or allowing others to second-guess–not sure if you have siblings) is completely unhelpful. Surround yourself with providers you trust and get a second opinion if necessary, but be confident in the decisions you make. You will have to make a million decisions that you never wanted to make and you can’t get hung up on each one. Hugs.

  3. I like these pumps but wish there were an inch or two lower. I developed a hip issue in the past year and can no longer wear cute heels. Or much of any heel but I don’t want to look matronly. Ideas? I like Everlane’s Day Heels but what else is out there? Thanks.

    1. Check out the Aquatalia Pheobe…cuter in person than it looks online. Or Ferragamo Vara

  4. I totally disagree that “block” heels should be thought of as “grandma” heels, and I can’t understand why Kat would immediately dis a style she’s supposedly promoting on her site! If she wants us to click through, just tell us it’s a lovely shoe.

    1. It’s also weird because 90s style block heels actually seem much more in style right now than skirt my stilletos.

  5. I ordered the Scheila pump from Macy’s in “Black Leather” a while back and was horrified to discover when they arrived that the heels were metallic gold! Nothing in the description led me to expect this; I should have read the buyer reviews. If you want them in black, order “Black” not “Black Leather.” I returned them immediately, which wasn’t heart-breaking because I also found them to be surprisingly uncomfortable. Lifestride Parigis are my go-to pump, and they offer a block heel version that I’m relatively happy with. (The heel is chunkier than I’d like, but they’re quite comfortable and extremely affordable.)
