So pretty! I love that bright green. In fact, I had some bright green heels like that (actually, a little brighter) last year that I finally wore down to the point of no return. I absolutely loved them — they went with everything, added a pop of color to otherwise dull outfits, and always received compliments. I’ve been looking for a replacement pair for about the last year and can’t find any anywhere! If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
Also, I remember someone mentioning some good brands of travel coffee mugs but don’t remember what they were. Can someone help me out?
Thanks in advance!
I love this. Gorgeous!
I think the travel mugs mentioned were the Nissan thermos ones, but I could be wrong. I have one that was given to me for free by my plumber. :)
I think you might be thinking of the Contigo thermoses — does that ring a bell? I bought a two-pack from Amazon after our discussion about them a few weeks ago. I love them! They do a great job of keeping liquids hot for hours and are (best of all) dishwasher safe. Make sure you read the description if you’re looking for dishwasher safe ones, not all of them are dishwasher safe. HTH!
Costco frequently has the Contigo travel mugs in a 3 pack for like $20. They are GREAT travel mugs, and don’t leak at all. However, make sure you clean them out promptly and don’t accidentally leave them in your office for a few days… the vacuum seal lids are a little hard to clean and get all the odors out of…
Not sure of your price point, but I’ve been contemplating these Butter green peep-toes for a while. Ultimately, I couldn’t pull the trigger to spend this much on a peep-toe (I personally prefer closed toe), but I’d love to live vicariously through someone else:

Love those!
I saw these at Cole Haan over the weekend and they are beautiful! But too high for me to justify (I have knee problems and heels can aggravate -lthough I will say Cole Haan heels were recommended to me by my orthopedist :)).
and I forgot the link:
http://www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/product.jsp?catId=100&productId=396058&productGroup=396057&pwpHash=shop,pwp,c-100/f-10001%2B70016%2B4294966411/ipp-40/pn-1
Ooooooh, those are beautiful. I wish I could gracefully walk in heels that high.
Here are two cheaper options. The Pour La Victoire are a steal.
http://tinyurl.com/4khy4dt
http://tinyurl.com/45m2pn7
I love my green heels and adding a pop of color.
@Bonnie — have you ever tried the kelsi dagger line? they are by the same people as the Pour La Victorie line.
Does anyone have any experience w/ this brand? I see them all the time on Amazon, but have never pulled the trigger….
I haven’t but will have to check them out; it looks like it’s a cheaper line. I love Pour La Victorie shoes but they’re usually more than I’m willing to spend. I’m pretty rough on my shoes and can’t justify spending that much for shoes that may get stuck in a crack.
I have both pour la victorie and kelsie dagger. The kelsie dagger are definitely a step down from PLV shoes. Still nice, but the materials are not as lasting. I would only buy on sale. As for PLV, they run really small in my experience, but are lovely shoes.
Interesting, thanks for the feedback. :)
I love the OXO Liquiseal travel mug
I’m in love with this.
Love, love, love!!!!!
I love this! I want this! But I want it for $150. Does anyone have any ideas on similar options in the more wallet-friendly price ranges?
I saw a similarly colored jacket in a tweed-type fabric at The Limited the other day (at least, I think it was pretty similar). I didn’t check the price, but I would guess it was under the $150 range.
http://www.thelimited.com/detail/stitched-pocket-jacket/2219143
Nice! I like it – have to check out the fabric in person.
If you are a lucky size 2, this one is cute: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Clearance/Womens-Coats-Jackets/Jackets/WE266/Womens-Saint-Germain-Jacket.html?NavGroupID=2
I know there has been a lot of debate on Boden, but I got the jacket above and this one: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Clearance/Womens-Coats-Jackets/Jackets/WE265/Womens-Soho-Jacket.html?NavGroupID=2. Both are gorgeous (IMHO).
I remember J.Crew having blazers in this color usually in the spring and summer.
This one from Talbot’s is nice: http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi25136
Love the whole outfit . . . can we please talk about the model’s pants? Le sigh.
Seriously, I’m debating whether the pants or the jacket is my favorite part of the outfit. They are both beautiful.
And, on a related note, should that be an “is” or an “are” in the first sentence when you are asking a disjunctive question?
Not sure what a disjunctive question is…
But if you’re asking which word was appropriate in your statement, “is” was the appropriate choice… as in “I’m debating whether the pants or the jacket IS my favorite part.”
Absolutely correct, but only if both items are singular (one of something). If not, you use “is” if the last item listed in the alternative is singular, but “are” if the last item listed in the alternative is plural. For example, “I’m debating whether the jacket or the shoes ARE my favorite part.”
Sorry. The former English teacher in me is rearing her ugly head!
This is lovely, and I have hopes that the breast pocket wouldn’t look weird on those of us with more ample bosoms. Not that I have hopes of spending $3K plus on a blazer but … it’s nice to day dream.
Love this color green, too — bright without being *too* much so. I am currently on a quest to find muted shades of bright orange (a purse would be lovely!) . . . And, I think I am going to have to add this shade of green to my mental “to buy” list, as well.
Not sure how you feel about Dooney & Burke (I know it’s not for everyone), but they have a lovely shade of orange available right now in their Portofino line of leather purses. E.g.,

Thanks, MM! I am looking for something a bit more dusty, for lack of a better word. It’s pretty much all inspired by this shoe. Suede not required, but just love that “sunset” color! I think it would especially amazing with some basic neutrals — beige, gray, light dusty pink, etc.

Check out Nordstrom:

You must have read my mind! I just spent my lunch break at the Nordstrom Rack & almost bought an orange purse from their Nordstrom line (never seen it before but made in Italy & on sale for $80). I am still not sure if maybe I should have gotten in, but the lining was off-white & very visible when you open the purse & I constantly have spills and leaky pens so I thought against it. Thanks for finding these!
Very early threadjack!
Regular corporettes know I am planning my yearly trip to the US.
It is in April but I am already getting excited and eager to share details with you all and get your valuable advice.
So I finally know what hotel I will be staying at: Hilton Hotel at Universal Studios Hollywood California.
I will not have a car because I do not drive…
Based on this, I have started preparing my travel folder and I am planning my stay as follows:
Shopping: locate the nearest Nordstrom, Nordstrom rack and Sephora and if I can, I will try to find an outlet mall.
This time I will buy work appropriate clothing, workout gear and .. as childish as this might seem .. I want to buy Abercrombie and Fitch clothes, call it a teenage dream come true but I have to do it once.
Separately, is it possible to get a tax refund? And how?
I ask this because last time when I shopped at Nordstrom they said they didn’t have a tax free. Whenever I shop abroad, I usually have a note for tax free and get a refund at the airport. Is this system not applicable in the US?
Fun: I will do a tour of Universal studio, Disneyland and Griffith planetarium. Then I’d probably attend a Janet Jackson concert (this will be my FIRST CONCERT EVER… and yes I am 25!)
Travel question:
Since I will have couple more days left, I thought I should pay a surprise visit to a friend in Denver Colorado.
Is it feasible to travel from LA to Denver with no hassle? I will probably have huge suitcases and no car. If it is too much trouble, I could skip this and arrange to have the friend somewhere closer.
Also, for the 2 days off I got a hotel offer for 165 USD per night. Is this rate reasonable or do you think I should shop around a little more?
Denver’s airport is far far far away from Denver itself — there are taxis, but I don’t know how expensive they will be as I have always rented a car. So you may want to check with friend about airport pickup/dropoff if at at all possible (or at least one of the ways).
But otherwise, the flight will be relatively short — probably about 2 hours or so. You are going to have to lug the bag on a plane to get home, lugging it on a side journey would not be that bad.
Have fun!
I had depos in Denver – it was a long, $65 cab ride from the airport to downtown Denver, without tip. I am also of the opinion that anytime one has to fly, there is a hassle. Delayed flights, TSA encounters (houda – be aware of the recent TSA procedure changes, which will involve an agent putting her hands all over you), lost luggage since you can’t check it. So make your Denver friend come to you!
Are you planning on taking cabs everywhere? That is going to get very expensive.
And Abercrombie?? REALLY? I doubt that most their teenager clothes will even fit a grown woman – I’m just not shaped the same way I was at<15, the target demographic for A&F. Plus they used to sell thongs for tweens. Ick.
Check trip advisor for hotels. Your current choice is http://tinyurl.com/4c3p97s
it is because I couldn’t have A&F as a teen, so I am dying to squeeze into a plaid shirt… childish I know but I just have to get it out of my system.
I think it should look fine! I still some shirts I had from A&F when I was in high school/college (I’m 25 now). That was back when their quality was super high… I swear, those shirts will last forever and just keep getting softer…
I used to live in a state that had no sales tax, so when I would travel to another state I could show my id and they would type something into register so I didn’t pay sales tax. You might try that.
I’m not in the LA area, but I think $165 a night for a hotel is reasonable. I worked at a nice hotel in a smaller city and we charged $139 a night.
Oregon –> Washington? I’m an Oregonian and when I find myself in Washington (not that often, strangely), it’s nice to flash your OR license and get the sales tax waived.
As a former OR resident, CA does not offer this perk! They will make you pay tax!
I grew up in Burbank (suburb 12 mi north of DT LA, and adjacent to Universal City – which is where your hotel is), so I can definitely answer your shopping questions:
The nearest (and best) Nordstrom’s rack is in Glendale, CA, about 15 min away from Universal City. However, it’s located in Glendale, which a very Middle Eastern-centric suburb of Los Angeles, and probably not representative of LA from a tourist/ stereotypical standpoint (although with that said, I think it has it’s own charm – and delicious food =) ). There is a Sephora and an Abercrombie nearby as well (Sephora should be open in the Americana by now – it’s an outdoor mall across the street from the Glendale Galleria, and there is an Abercrombie inside of the Galleria).
If you want a more “LA” experience, you could head to the Sephora at Hollywood and Highland (by the El Capitan and the Kodak theatre). I don’t recall if there is an Abercrombie there. If you want to head a little further west, there is a Nordstrom’s rack and Loehmann’s walking distance from each other on west 3rd Street, adjacent (and walking distance to) the Beverly Center (which definitely has an Abercrombie and a Sephora, as well as a ton of “luxury” stores – think LV, Gucci, Dior, etc.).
I think your room rate sounds reasonable. I don’t think travel from LA to Denver will be “easy” with large suitcases and no transportation, but I don’t think it will be impossible – I would try flying out of Burbank as opposed to LAX if you decide to do this: 1) you are about 6 miles from Burbank (no freeway! or traffic!) and about 20-25 miles from LAX (and that will take at least an hour most of the time, if not longer); 2) Burbank is a local airport (think lots of Vegas/ SFO/ AZ/ NM/ CO flights), so they have a tendency to move people a little more quickly through security and the like.
I have no idea why Kodak posted as a link, and excuse the typos in my long-winded post! =)
I can’t believe I am printing posts but hey it’s so informative. I’m printing your post for reference haha
Yay, I’m glad I could help! Plus, your post asked about one of my favorite things – shopping in Los Angeles, lol =)
I grew up in Burbank, too! B-bank love!
Houda, you sound officially adorable– it speaks so highly of you to have a truly long-distance friend like that, and I think we all have those teenage dreams of something silly and previously unattainable, and how awesome that you are keeping that promise for your younger, uncynical self– and threads like this are the reason I love Corporette. Thanks for a special blog, Kat, and thanks for making such lovely use of it, fellow readers! Go, girls!
PS- Think of a concert evening like a more glamorous hiking trip: you will want to be a hands-free as possible (load up pockets or a secure-closer crossbody mini purse instead of carrying anything) and you will want to be as self-sufficient as possible: have earplugs, lip balm, aspirin, ID, energy bar, squares of toilet paper, etc. with you. Not that you won’t have opportunities to get what you need, just that it’s better to have it– the crowds have their own manic inertia and accomadations vary; prices are inevitably highly inflated, etc. If you’re prepared you can enjoy the frenzy and energy as fun and liberating and lively instead of constricting and worrisome. Concerts are so fun– you just let go and get transcendant and silly with strangers-as-friends.
PS- You will totally be able to find something to enjoy for grown-up you in A&F– maybe a tee shirt to sleep in or a fragrance that can be your secret. Have you ever been to one of their stores, though? Be aware that they are sexy-music-thumping, huge risque-photo-adorned, dark, sensory-overload spaces. They seem designed to make parents of the young customers uncomfortable– and aid to making kids want to be ‘independent’, perhaps borrowing mom’s credit card rather than making poor mom go in to the store. The staff are all super-coquettish, buff young model men and girls types– idealized adult film college men and coeds. Good for them, and good for you if you are prepared and ready to enjoy it as a lark! I write just in case you hadn’t been and wouldn’t know– to prevent overwhelming and promote devil-may-care enjoyment. Have a blast!
Small, lamenting threadjack:
I saw this article in today’s paper, and it made me sad. I thought of you all, not because you make me sad, but because you would be sad as well (not that I mean to make you sad, but you know what I mean).
http://chicagobreakingbusiness.com/2011/02/clothing-prices-to-rise-10-starting-in-spring.html
I get the economics. Doesn’t mean I have to like it. :-(
This is terrible! How could quality and color selection get worse than they are now? I already feel like I’ve overpaid for my whole wardrobe anyway. I’d be willing to pay higher prices if the stuff was durable and made under good working conditions, but the article is clearly not referring to that kind of change.
Yes, I saw that on the newsfeed this morning. Bottom line, will be paying more for less.
Really like the color. The model’s thick black waistband is distracting me though. Not in love with that!
Luuuuuurve Akris and this jacket.
Love this entire outfit! Just way out of my budget!
Public service announcement: According to Talbot’s Facebook page, today is the last day to save 20% on full-priced purchases and get free shipping on orders of $175 or more. Use promo code LOVEIT at checkout.
And now back to my newly-single Valentine’s Day slump.
Hang in there, girl! When your hand is empty of a not-right partner, your hand is ready for the right One. Being single means not stuck wasting your brightness but letting it shine for yourself and for the world of people ready to love you.
Sounds mothering-cliche-ish, but it’s logical, too. It’s good to be free. Enjoy!
Buy yourself something nice and get takeout! I insist!
*Hugs* Newly single Valentine’s Day can be tough.
The last Valentine’s Day I was single, I trolled the Target Valentine’s Day card section and sent the worst valentine I could find to each of my (close) friends. It was awesome, and the tradition stuck (sporadically), so I’ve been getting some awfully funny and weird cards the last few days.
I’m right there with you, K. Husband officially moved out yesterday – for V-day its just me, the dog, and a living room with no furniture. very surreal, and very quiet.
The one good part: I now have 40% more space in my walk-in closet.
Dogs are the best. Mine got me through my divorce – empty living room and all. Hugs to you. Things will only get better tomorrow, and the next day and the next day. Go fill up that closet :)
Big hugs, R.S.!
To K and R.S. – hope you guys are hanging in there and doing something nice for yourselves today. :)
I love all you guys. Thanks so much!
Second and big <> to you both. My divorce was final about 3 weeks before Valentine’s Day 2006. Went home that night – after some hellish day at work – to my dark-ish house, a frostbitten lean cuisine, a glass (well, maybe three on THAT night) of screw top red wine and my three then pretty little kids (who weren’t that enthused about divorce, little as they understood). Agh. But I have good news for you: this too shall pass and what doesn’t kill you (this won’t, I promise) makes you stronger. Here’s to getting through this (occasionally annoying and potentially depressing) Hallmark holiday and coming out of it better, my friends. In the immortal words of Scarlett O’Hara (whose experience and ‘wisdom’ is particularly apropos here), tomorrow is another day…and it will be better.
Yep, I fell in love and got my heart broken by the price of this jacket, too. I am an Akris fan (in theory, not in income).
I love the entire outfit. Those colors are completely appropriate for my industry.
The jacket may be nice on its own, but with those pants it is making me think of the Keebler Elves.
oh I love this! And I’m really loving this pallete for spring.
That is beautiful. And more than my Bay Area mortgage payment.
$3500???? For that price, it had better come with a decent used car!
Really, Kat, I understand the theory behind splurge Monday, but the price on this blazer is beyond ridiculous….
